Very late to the party but ummm...
The drama was what it was, drama. And like a "messy" person, I'm here for the drama. I have not read the book this story is based on but I pray the reading is nothing like the screen watch.
The dancing and gyrating was OK. The acting was meh and the writing was distasteful. Overall, I was entertained in some way because, I watched it.
Scenarios were unrealistic even for fiction. The fake gangsta stuff, the STUNT DOUBLES...., the raggedy cheap apartments the dancers "getting money" lived in. Them sexing outside the club for money and their bag were supposed to be BIG working for Madam???!!! It just didn't add up,.
Yeah umm idk but, ok seems to be a hit so carry on, I guess.

PROS:
CONS:
- It was entertaining enough to get me through a patch of boredom.
- Eva Marcille was aesthetically perfect for the lead character.
- The most well executed part of the series are the scenes announcing the dancers and Christian Keyes performance in his role.
CONS:
- Poor studio lighting and shaky camera frames. It makes the production look very low budget from a credible producer with the largest filming studio in the country. It's filmed like a daytime soap opera from the 90s.
- The scene changes and camera angles are very basic and don't have any creativity put into the editing.
- The delivery from the actors came across as practice or a rehearsal for the final taping as if they still had the script in their hands, reading aloud, rehearsing the scenes. Christian Keyes, quit naturally, was the strongest actor.
- Very weak dialogue with an excessive amount of unnecessary profanity and racial slurs. It's also very monotone and doesn't give a balanced ranges of emotions. It's very aggressive and dense in every episode.
- I don't mind the massive amount sexual expression in the plot but theirs absolutely no creativity or originality put into the portrayal.
- It comes across more as improv and as libs than it does a written series.
- The story isn't cohesive nor does it have an organic flow and it's very predictable.
- The adult rated scenes don't have any passion and don't really give you that sense of arousal that they should. It almost comes across of a parody of what a adult rated scene is suppose to look like.
- Unnecessary background music dilutes a lot of the (acting) performances in certain scenes and it's excessively used in every single scene.
- There's absolutely no character development. Just an ongoing plot drawn out plot with no foundation.
- It's unbelievably dramatic.
- The work that went into making this series relatable to a designated demographic could went into creating something next level and evolutionizing for that designated demographic.
This gets a 6 from me because the show has a good start and has room to grow. I appreciate the writing and Eva is believable and I like her. In spite of the bad, you root for Madam. She's ruthless and protective in the same vein. You also see her very real vulnerable spots, and that duality is refreshing. The eye candy is outstanding and the minor twist are enough to keep you going. The surprises are enough to bring you back. The beauty on the screen is breath-taking and to be one these cast members is to be one of the beautiful people.
The show carries a Tyler Perry"ishness" in tone... which is not surprising considering he directed most episodes and serves as Executive Producer. The show is a good addition to BETplus and another reason to keep my subscription.
With all of that good and interesting, the show has room to grow. The dialogue is a bit stiff, sometimes contrived as well as some of the valiant scenes, especially when Madam saves the day... And I'm awaiting the onion-reveal of the nephew's motivation. I hope the show moves away from some of the minor expected romances and hook-ups.
And a Sheri maintaining and kicking ass gets me every time!

I began watching this show and actually paid for a BET+ subscription just to see what all the hype was about! Sadly, I wasted my money and canceled my subscription because of this show! The acting is terrible, Eva or "Madam" plays a cold-hearted angry all the time, Black Woman, and she is an "untouchable serial-killer!" && How does her character know so much? Make her work in finding the answers to some stuff, like every man in the city she owns... but Why??? How??? Why would soooo many men be doing her bidding? She isn't paying them, after all... she's always on a hunt for somebody who "stole her money" 🙄🤣...Watching this show was cringey because ITS SO UNBELIEVABLE and UNREALISTIC! Lol 😂 on one scene, she sneaks into a hospital and pushes the hospital bed out the window killing a guy, and walks out like nothing happened. She threatens judges, law enforcement, like come on ?!!! This show would've had a slight opportunity if it was more in touch with Realistic Events!! Tyler Perry , I know you wanna give people opportunities, but they should be invested in taking some acting lessons to perfect their acting skills! Highly disappointed at this show smh!
I think the show is great but there's some areas that needs improvements. For instance that character named amp. They were all dating fine with dime then after that money incident we see amp overreacting and just traumatising dime over and over again for no reason its hurting and disgusting because no one can do that in real life so if the writers want them to get back together then let them come amd don't keep us waiting but if they don't then make each character move on separately with his and her life. I think that wasn't right at all. No one can do that in real life especially if its someone they love.
