This Halloween season, Bloody Disgusting and Screambox are bringing Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls to theaters, a gateway horror film that channels the spirit of feel-good 1980s films like Beetlejuice, Ernest Scared Stupid, and Pee-wee’s Big Adventure!

As Gerard Johnstone's "M3GAN" continues to slay audiences at the box office, fans of the killer doll movie have compared it to the horror genre's most notorious deadly toy (and slasher icon) Chucky, who has been tiptoe-ing into our collective nightmares since the first "Child's Play" movie in 1988. Other than Chucky's lack of song-and-dance skills, the major difference between him and the blonde artificial intelligence prototype is that she is the product of tech advancement gone awry, whereas the Good Guy doll's origins lie in supernatural soul-swapping (and perhaps more). The Masked Singer season 9 will continue to have theme nights after their great success in season 8, and a few of them have been revealed. The Masked Singer season 8 introduced theme nights for the first time. Some of them featured certain celebrities, including Andrew Lloyd Webber and the Muppets. Andrew and Miss Piggy served as guest panelists on their respective episodes. There were other themes, including Vegas, TV Theme Songs, '90s, Comedy Roast, Hall of Fame, and Fright Night.

On Camera Audiences, the website where fans can get free tickets to The Masked Singer tapings, has announced the first four season 9 themes. The January 23 The Masked Singer season 9 taping is simply called "Opening Night."

Jack Skellington is voiced by two different actors in The Nightmare Before Christmas, who bring very different talents to the persona of the Pumpkin King. Created by Tim Burton, 1993’s The Nightmare Before Christmas was the sixth musical collaboration between composer Danny Elfman and the gothic filmmaker, but the stop-motion film gave Elfman another role of importance. In addition to writing the film’s songs and score, Danny Elfman was the singing voice for Jack Skellington, with actor Chris Sarandon taking on the Pumpkin King’s speaking voice.

Like David S. Pumpkins’ previous appearances, guests are eager to be scared with the help of some of horror’s most familiar faces. The Masked Singer is getting a revamp! Fox has announced that season eight will find the contestants competing for a new title -- King or Queen of The Masked Singer. In addition, each episode will feature a new round of masked celebrities and only one contestant will move on. The eliminated contestant will be unmasked will take place in the middle of the episode, and the person will take their place in the new Masked Singer VIP section to watch the rest of the episode.

Themed episodes will include Vegas Night, Comedy Roast, Hall of Fame, Muppets Night, Andrew Lloyd Webber Night, TV Themes, ’90s Night, Thanksgiving, and Fright Night.

Under the new format announced today by the network, each episode of the celebrity singing contest will feature the usual knock-out performances by elaborately disguised celebrities, but for the first time, only one contestant will move on from each episode. The studio audience will vote for their favorite, and the singer with the least amount of votes will unmask mid-show. That celebrity will get a front row seat in the Masked Singer VIP section to watch the rest of the competition and the second unmasking, and for the first time, won’t have to to wait to find out what celebrity they were competing against.

Here’s how it’s going to work: Several disguised contestants will compete each week, but only one will move on to the next round of competition.

“The Masked Singer” is changing things up for Season 8. The Fox competition series will have a new format, and only one contestant is going to make it through each episode.

As we know, each episode generally features performances from several of the masked celebrities. This season, only one will move on at the end of the episode (as opposed to only one being eliminated in years past).

In order to add a second elimination, an audience voting element is also being introduced. Halfway through the show, the studio audience will vote for their favorite performance so far, and the contestant with the least amount of votes will be sent home. But, they’ll get to stick around to watch the rest of the competition — and even the second unmasking!

Did you know from a young age that you wanted to be a film director?

I remember first realising that I wanted to make films during one of many viewings of ‘The Mummy’ (1999) on VHS in my bedroom on an old 15” TV. I became quite obsessed with the film and tried to make all my friends come over to watch it because I wanted to share all the amazing trivia about how they made the special effects. This sparked the idea that perhaps I could make my own films and so my first effort was to remake the entirety of the Phantom Menace in my bedroom with myself and my friends miming along...

David Dastmalchian is the face of interesting characters. Although it has been nearly 14 years since he debuted as one of Joker’s gang members in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, the performance remains chilling. Since then, he has continued making a mark as a Wombat in Ant-Man, a Mentat in Dune, and a Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad, amongst other roles. Dastmalchian is likewise the face behind an interesting character: Late-night horror hostess and supernatural warrior Jerri Bartman, who returns for another adventure in the new Dark Horse comic, Count Crowley: Amateur Monster Hunter.

Created by Dastmalchian, with art by Lukas Ketner, coloring by Lauren Affe, and lettering by Frank Cvetkovic, the new volume, available March 23, picks up immediately following 2019’s Reluctant Monster Hunter. Set in 1983 Missouri, the story follows Jerri, an alcoholic TV reporter forced to return to her small hometown to work for her family-run local station.

Amanda Bearse (Married…with Children) has found one of the first roles of a newly rebooted screen career in Universal Pictures’ history-making rom-com Bros—the first studio film to feature an entirely LGBTQ+ principal cast, with queer actors taking on queer roles, as well as all heterosexual characters.

She joins an all-star ensemble led by Billy Eichner and Luke Macfarlane, which also includes Ts Madison, Miss Lawrence, Symone, Guillermo Diaz and Guy Branum.

Bros is billed as a smart, swoony and heartfelt comedy about two gay men—played by Eichner and Macfarlane—maybe, possibly, probably, stumbling towards love…Maybe. They’re both very busy.

Bearse will portray the mother of Macfarlane’s character.

Nicholas Stoller is directing from a script he co-wrote with Eichner. Judd Apatow is producing alongside Stoller and Josh Church, with Eichner exec producing. Universal’s Senior EVP of Production Erik Baiers will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.

The cable network’s annual 31 Nights of Halloween lineup features 14 showings of Hocus Pocus, the beloved 1993 film starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy — and while that may seem like a lot, keep in mind that Freeform aired the Walt Disney flick a whopping 30 (!) times in 2019. (Of course, you can watch Hocus Pocus as many times as you’d like with a subscription to Disney+, but who are we to suggest a commercial-free viewing experience?)

One thing about Hollywood I could never stomach: all the damn remakes. 

Okay, so that's not totally true, but it was too good of an opportunity to rephrase that great line from "The Lost Boys" in a story about a pending remake of that very movie.

Truth is that there's a surprisingly solid trend of strong genre remakes. "The Blob," "The Fly," and John Carpenter's "The Thing" were all remakes that eclipsed the originals, and we even got a damn good remake of another solid '80s vampire flick a while back when Craig Gillespie remade "Fright Night" with Anton Yelchin and Colin Farrell. Happy Thursday, everyone! On tap today is a brand new list of streaming recommendations that I have put together as part of our ongoing Indie Horror Month celebration. This time, we’re showcasing five fantastic films that are available to stream on the Arrow player and are well worth your time. One note: Clapboard Jungle doesn’t arrive on Arrow until the 19th, but I thought it was a perfect title to include here, so you just have to hang on a few days until you can finally check it out for yourself.

On the day Anton Yelchin would have turned 32, Kat Dennings joined fans of the late actor all over the world in paying tribute to the Star Trek star on social media. In 2007, Dennings co-starred with Yelchin in the comedy-drama Charlie Bartlett, serving as his love interest in the movie. Remembering happier times, Dennings posted an image of the pair together on Twitter in recognition of Yelchin's 32nd birthday.

2020 has not been an easy year on cinemagoers, in fact it has been the worst since some of the earlier days of the medium. Still, despite the disappointed sighs that have grown among audiences when hearing another much anticipated film has been delayed further, there has been some plucky films that have thrived at this time of panic. Many of these films have been ones which have solely enjoyed huge VOD success but Brett and Drew T. Pierce’s (known and credited collectively as The Pierce Brothers) horror film The Wretched, is a film which has indeed hit VOD but also cinemas, doing particularly well at select drive-ins Stateside, as it topped the box office six weekends running. The first since Avatar to do so (obviously with wildly different box office takings). And little wonder too, because The Wretched is a film perfect for a drive-in experience and a brilliant throwback horror flick.

Chicago – There is such an unnerving quality to older dolls, which is why they lend themselves so perfectly to horror stories. There’s just an unsettling feeling when looking at their static expression, usually plastered with a permanent smile that gives me terrible flashbacks to when I worked retail.
