This month brings bad news for action, Tom Hardy, and Mad Max fans, and it’s all thanks to Netflix. Beginning back in 1979 and starring the now controversial Hollywood icon (and “Special Ambassador”) Mel Gibson as the titular “Mad” Max Rockatansky, Oscar-nominee and Venom star Tom Hardy took over the lead role in the critically acclaimed 2015 sequel, Mad Max: Fury Road.
While the Mad Max movie has now sparked a spin-off in last year’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, fans don’t have long to once again bask in the high-speed action delight of the Fury Road, as the Tom Hardy-led sequel is all set to leave Netflix on March 30, 2025. Mad Max: Fury Road was co-written, co-produced, and directed by George Miller, and sees Hardy take over from Gibson as the post-apocalyptic survivor and road warrior "Mad Max" Rockatansky, joining forces with Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa. A painfully unappreciated series led by Oscar-nominee and Mad Max: Fury Road star Tom Hardy is finally finding some success thanks to free streaming. Only running for one season, the period psychological thriller Taboo has now entered the free streaming charts, and finds Hardy in the lead as the mysterious and mercilessly intense James Keziah Delaney, an adventurer who returns to 1812 London to rebuild his late father's shipping empire.
Debuting back in 2017, Taboo was created by Peaky Blinders' Steven Knight, Tom Hardy, and his father, Chips Hardy. Featuring a stellar cast that includes Leo Bill, Jessie Buckley, Oona Chaplin, Stephen Graham, Jefferson Hall, and David Hayman alongside Hardy, Taboo more than lives up to its title as it plunges audiences into the dark side of 19th-century London and the political and business corruption, violent gangs, and misery that plagued the city.

Havoc director Gareth Evans recently opened up about the fight sequences in his upcoming Netflix movie, which will be led by Oscar nominee Tom Hardy. Evans first gained global recognition for his incredible work in the 2011 Indonesian action thriller The Raid.
During a recent interview with Empire, Evans confirmed that Havoc won’t be like his previous action movies, such as 2009's Merantau and the popular The Raid franchise, where the action sequences heavily featured martial-arts fights. Instead, the movie would feature more gunplay. "It was never going to be a martial-arts film," he said. "I wanted this to feel like the gunplay stuff that I love watching." Evans also hyped up Hardy's performance, teasing that the viewers would get to see the Mad Max: Fury Road actor deliver brutal and intense fight sequences.

After waiting several years for its arrival, the action movie majesty of Havoc, which sees The Raid director Gareth Evans join forces with Oscar-nominee Tom Hardy for this Netflix thriller, is almost upon us. And it certainly sounds like it could boast not just one of Hardy’s best performances, but Havoc has the potential to be one of the best action movies of all time, with Evans promising that the actor is in “f*cking beast mode.”
Speaking with Empire, who have also revealed a new image from Havoc which you can check out below, Evans teased how Havoc will differ from his previous action masterpieces The Raid and The Raid 2. Havoc will involve far more gunplay, and a little less martial arts, than Evans’ previous works, with Hardy at the center as an unstoppable, granite-built action hero.

Tom Hardy is set to lead a new action thriller, Havoc, for Netflix next month, and the director of the film just shared an explosive update ahead of its streaming premiere. Hardy stars alongside Timothy Olyphant and Forest Whitaker in Havoc, which is set to debut on April 25. The film follows a bruised detective who must fight his way through the criminal underworld after a drug deal gone wrong. The journey unravels a web of corruption and conspiracy that runs deeper than anyone could have imagined. During a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Havoc writer/director Gareth Evans teased a vicious version of Tom Hardy through his character, Walker, and also described a particular action scene that’s like a “relentless attack”:...

Gareth Evans’ Havoc has been a long time coming, but the gritty action flick is finally set to be released next month on Netflix. As a massive fan of The Raid and The Raid 2, I’m hugely excited to see what Evans has up his sleeve this time. The director told Empire that Havoc marks a shift from martial arts action to gritty gunplay and that Tom Hardy was more than up for the challenge.
“It was never going to be a martial-arts film,” Evans explained. “I wanted this to feel like the gunplay stuff that I love watching… Tom came to us in f***ing beast mode. I tapped him on the shoulder and it was just like granite. He came fully physically prepared.“

Havocwriter and director Gareth Evans explains how his upcoming Netflix action movie features Tom Hardy in "f*cking beast mode." Known for directing action movies like The Raid: Redemption (2011) and The Raid 2 (2014), Evans' new movie follows Hardy's Walker, a detective who must fight his way through the criminal underworld to rescue a kidnapped politician's son. In addition to Hardy, the Havoc cast features Forest Whitaker, Timothy Olyphant, and Luiz Guzmán, with the initial teaser trailer promising that the film will be a violent ride for audiences.
In a recent interview with Empire ahead of the Havoc release on Netflix on April 25, Evans previews some of what's to come from the film. The movie will mark a subtle shift away from something like The Raid 2 in the sense that Evans says, “It was never going to be a martial-arts film." Gareth Evans is undeniably one of the greatest action directors working today. And now, over a decade after he delivered The Raid 2, he’s back with his first action movie since that head-exploding sequel. Make way for Havoc, a bruising crime thriller packed with wince-worthy action – this time with Tom Hardy in the leading role. And where The Raid and its follow-up leaned into the martial arts prowess of Evans’ regular collaborator Iko Uwais, the brawls in Havoc are tailored to Hardy’s hulking physique.
“It was never going to be a martial-arts film,” Evans tells Empire, speaking to a subtle shift in action sub-genres. “I wanted this to feel like the gunplay stuff that I love watching.” You’ll see Hardy blasting a shotgun above, but Havoc also makes use of the A-lister’s sheer heft. “Tom came to us in fucking beast mode,” says Evans. “I tapped...

As major streaming services are looking to cut their annual content budgets, Netflix is looking to grow theirs. In a recent Morgan Stanley-hosted investor conference, Netflix's Chief Financial Officer Spencer Neumann revealed the streaming giant will be spending $18 billion on content in 2025, and could grow it further in the future. He said:
"We look at it every quarter, every year and iterate. We are not anywhere near a ceiling. We also balance having enough for the long-term investment to continue to drive growth. I do think we are still just getting started."

The powers that be have assembled various teams across the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’ve had the Avengers, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes; then intergalactic ‘a-holes’, the Guardians Of The Galaxy; see also, the god-like Eternals. But there’s never been a superhero team-up like the Thunderbolts. In part because they’re not exactly heroes, consisting of grey-area allies at best (Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes), and borderline-villains at worst. But also because they’re not exactly ‘super’ either, with barely a special power between them. So, what happens when a motley crew of not-super not-heroes is tasked with saving the world?
The new issue of Empire goes on set of Marvel’s Thunderbolts* in search of answers, speaking to the starry cast – including Pugh, Stan, John-Kamen and Russell, plus David Harbour and Lewis Pullman – and director Jake Schreier about creating the unlikeliest team-up this side of the multiverse.

Buckle up, everyone: Gareth Evans is back in action. Literally. After the gore-strewn one-two punch of The Raid and The Raid 2 – a duology which quite literally reshaped the action movie genre as we know it – the director moved on to gnarly folk horror (Apostle) and small-screen crime sagas (Gangs Of London Season 1). But with his long-awaited Havoc, he’s back in movie mode for the first time since 2017 – and plunging back into the all-out action with which he made his name. And this time, he has a mega A-list star leading the way in the shape of Tom Hardy. The results promise to be thrilling and bruising in equal measure – and the first teaser has arrived, offering a glimpse of the… well, havoc to come.
Boom. This is just a brief look for now, but the combination of Evans and Hardy seems to be as no-holds-barred as you’d hope.

Great action movies come to those who wait, and our patience has finally paid off as, after four years, Tom Hardy and The Raid director Gareth Evans’ Netflix thriller Havoc is all set to land on the streamer later this year. Recent rumors claimed that the action outing would be a lengthy 2 hours and 30 minutes long. However, during yesterday’s “Next on Netflix” event, Evans revealed the real runtime. And while it's considerably shorter, this may, in fact, be a good thing.
Responding to the rumors, the filmmaker revealed that, rather than a sprawling action epic, Havoc will instead be a much tighter, fast-paced fist to the face, and clocks in at “a tight as a drum” 1 hour and 45 minutes. Which, rather than spending time on a lot of chatter, should mean that Hardy and Evans will hit the ground running when Havoc lands on Netflix in the spring. Check...

While Netflix just made a lot of subscribers very happy, revealing a packed slate of movies and shows for 2025, some of its biggest franchises were noticeably absent from the schedule. Tom Hardy is getting back into the action game courtesy of Netflix’s upcoming film, Havoc. Today, the streamer has announced that the Gareth Evans-helmed feature has officially set a release window for this Spring meaning that the production — like warmer days here in the Northern Hemisphere — is just around the corner. This will be the The Bikeriders star's first role since he wrapped his time as Eddie Brock in Sony and Marvel’s Venom franchise last fall, so audiences will be more than excited to see Hardy back on their screens — in another butt-kicking performance nonetheless. Now that we finally have the title’s arrival date, we can also expect a trailer to pop up somewhere in the — hopefully — near future.

Netflix and British docs producer Rogan Productions are to attempt to “connect the long and disturbing chain of events” that led to the disastrous Grenfell Tower fire in London.
The pair are teaming on a Grenfell [working title] doc feature that will air later this year and was revealed last night at the Next on Netflix event in London.
The feature will give a voice to survivors, bereaved families and firefighters, while “tracing the chain of events that led to the disaster,” according to Netflix. In 2017, the Grenfell Tower fire claimed the lives of 72 people and has led to a huge deal of introspection for the past eight years including a major national inquiry.
Netflix UK boss Anne Mensah said last night: “From pure entertainment to the most important stories – this year you will see a number of big British documentary series and films on Netflix UK. These are the important stories that demand to be told.
