Indian filmmakers Rohan Sippy and Nilesh Sahay are joining forces on the holiday action comedy film “Iss Diwali.”

The film, which unfolds during the Diwali festival against a backdrop of political intrigue, is presented by industry veterans Ramesh Sippy and Zaheeda.

Rohan Sippy, known for helming “Nautanki Saala,” “Dum Maaro Dum” and “Bluffmaster,” and serving as showrunner on Netflix noir series “Aranyak,” will collaborate with Sahay, who wrote, produced and directed action film “Squad.” The project is produced by Rohan Sippy, Roopa De Choudhury, Brajesh Sahaya and Sahay via Indian Media Entertainment Network (Imen).

Rising Indian star Taha Shah Badussha, known for his breakout role in Netflix’s “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” has signed a three-film deal with Ramesh Sippy Entertainment. The actor played Tajdar Baloch in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s global hit series.

Ramesh Sippy is one of the giants of Indian cinema, best known for “Sholay” (1975), one of the country’s all time hits. His credits as a director also include “Andaz” (1971), “Seeta Aur Geeta” (1972), “Shaan” (1980), “Shakti” (1982), “Saagar” (1985) and television magnum opus “Buniyaad” (1987).

Projects produced under the Ramesh Sippy Entertainment banner include films “Bluffmaster” (2005), “Taxi No. 9 2 11: Nau Do Gyarah” (2006), “Dum Maaro Dum” (2011) and “Nautanki Saala” (2013) and hit Netflix series “Aranyak.”

Tandon plays Indrani Kothari, the reigning queen of society in Alibaug, a rich world of glitz, glamor, deceit and betrayal.

“Revenge,” which aired from 2011-2015, was produced by ABC Signature, a part of Disney Television Studios, and earned star Madeleine Stowe a best actress nomination at the Golden Globes.

Parambrata Chattopadhyay is the latest actor to play Oscar-winning Indian master Satyajit Ray’s detective Prodosh Chandra Mitter Aka Feluda in streamer ZEE5 Global’s series “Shabash Feluda.”

Feluda first appeared in the Ray family’s Bengali-language magazine Sandesh in 1965. Ray directed two Feluda films, “The Golden Fortress” (1974) and “The Elephant God” (1978), where the Bengali detective was played by his frequent collaborator Soumitra Chatterjee. Feluda has subsequently been played by a range of Indian actors, including Shashi Kapoor, Abir Chatterjee, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Indraneil Sengupta and Bangladesh’s Ahmed Rubel.

The detective is part of the fabric of growing up in West Bengal and Bangladesh, akin to what Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple used to be for several generations in the west.

Due in the first half of 2023 is war epic film “Pippa,” a coproduction with Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP, directed by Raja Krishna Menon (“Airlift”) and starring Ishaan (“A Suitable Boy”) and Mrunal Thakur (“Sita Ramam”) with music by A.R. Rahman. Arshad Syed’s film “Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan?,” coproduced by Junglee Pictures, is a screwball comedy starring Taapsee Pannu (“Blurr”) and Pratik Gandhi (“Scam 1992”). Netflix is to release Indian revenge thriller Thar this summer, marking its latest collaboration with star and producer Anil Kapoor.

The streaming giant has teamed with Anil Kapoor Film Company on the film as it works to increase its presence in India’s highly competitive streaming market.

Thar marks the feature directorial debut of Raj Singh Chaudhary, who also wrote the script. Set in the 1980s, it centres on a man who moves to the city of Pushkar for a job but also to avenge his past.

Netflix audiences tossed all their coins to their Witcher during Season 2’s debut weekend. The fantasy show’s premiere debuted at No. 1, with audiences spending a whopping 142.43 million hours immersed in magic and monsters with Geralt (Henry Cavill), Ciri (Freya Allan) and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra). The first season of “The Witcher” followed, securing the second-place spot on Netflix’s Top 10 English TV Shows list, with 49.18 million hours of screen time.

“The Witcher” is based on the book series by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, which also inspired multiple video games. It tells the adventures of monster hunter Geralt of Rivia (Cavill) and his run-ins with enemies and deadly creatures. Aranyak starring Raveena Tandon was released last Friday on Netflix. A crime thriller set in the forests of Sironah town in the hills of Himachal Pradesh the series is performing exceptionally well on Netflix.

According to Netflix: Political ploys, personal agendas and a beastly myth all surface as two mismatched hill station cops navigate a web of suspects after a puzzling murder. This intriguing narrative is catching the attention from across the corners. In fact, Aranyak gained anuge number of views and placed 1st on the Netflix watch list!

Aranyak, with enticing story, and with it’s fabulous numbers, even beating Money Heist and Sooryavanshi, makes us believe that Indian content is the choice of fans the world over.

No comparison intended. But in Satyajit Ray’s classic Aranyer Din Ratri the forest held so much mystery and intrigue, it was almost like exploring a universe of foliage in search of the true meaning of life.

The forest in Aranyak is also crammed with mysteries, as a series of murders occur in the thick of the forest. The gruesome goings-on in the greenery are attributed to a beast called the nar-tendua, half-man half-beast, full monster.

So is the nar-tendua responsible for the multiple killings? Or is a deadly human impersonating the beast-man’ bestial bloodshed technique? The answer to that is of course obvious. Aranyak milks the mystery of the forest. But it doesn’t go deep enough. The director Vinay Waikul, relatively new to the craft, stops short of exploring the wide mysterious landscape.

The year is somehow already almost over! To celebrate another passage around the sun, Netflix is putting its best foot forward with its list of new releases for December 2021.

Netflix’s options of original series are quite vast and impressive this month. It starts early on with two finales: Lost in Space wraps up its story with a third and final season on Dec. 1 and is quickly followed by the last go-around for Spanish hit Money Heist. The blockbusters continue apace from there with The Witcher season 2 premiering on Dec. 17, Emily in Paris season 2 on Dec. 22, and Cobra Kai season 4 on Dec. 31 to close out the year.
