Owen Wilson’s New ‘Ted Lasso’-Like Golf Comedy Debuts With Hazardous Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
The first three episodes of Owen Wilson’s new Apple TV+ comedy are set to debut on the platform this Wednesday, and everyone is curious to see just how Stick will stack up to the other projects in Wilson’s filmography. Stick follows an ex-golfer who finds new hope in coaching a troubled teen towards success. After he’s fired from his job and his wife leaves him, he stakes his future on his ability to coach his prodigy to success. The review embargo for Stick lifted on Friday, and although the show is drawing comparisons to Ted Lasso, that didn’t help it earn a good score. Stick debuted with a “rotten” 40% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing. This comes from only five reviews, so it is subject to change.

In addition to Owen Wilson, Stick also stars Judy Greer and Ryan Kiera Armstrong. Greer...

‘Percy Jackson’ Season 3 Gets an Olympic Update Ahead of Season 2 Premiere
Image
We’re still more than six months away from the release of Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, but the already-confirmed third season of the hit Disney+ series just took a huge step forward. Fans were waiting on pins and needles throughout the first season of Percy Jackson for news of a renewal, and it didn’t take Disney long after the Season 1 finale to announce that Percy Jackson had been renewed for Season 2. It was then announced back in March that Percy Jackson had already been renewed for Season 3 to cut down on the wait between seasons.

ScreenRant recently caught up with stars Walker Scobell, Aryan Simhadri, and Leah Jeffries at Disney Upfront, and when asked if the rumors of Season 3 beginning production this July were true, Simhadri confirmed, “We go up in July for bootcamp.” Scobell also confirmed the news and mentioned that Season 3 will be “probably my...

One of ‘Percy Jackson’s Most Powerful Gods Confirms Their Absence in Season 2 — But Won’t Rule Out a Season 3 Return
Image
One of the stars from Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1 has confirmed their status in in Season 2. The first season of Percy Jackson took the world by storm and was hailed by critics and audiences alike as one of the most faithful book adaptations ever. The show earned strong scores of 91% from critics and 79% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, but it wasn’t until shortly after the Season 1 finale that it was renewed for Seasons 2 and 3. Jay Duplass, who plays Hades in Percy Jackson Season 1, Episode 7 “We Find Out the Truth, Sort Of,” recently caught up with People Magazine to talk about his new show Dying For Sex, and he confirmed he will not be in Season 2, but he didn’t rule out a return in the future:

"I am not in Season 2. But, there have been some potential droppings about Season 3."

Steve Coogan portrays Hades in the controversial...

The Loki star will also be an executive producer of the untitled series, which comes from Apple Studios and creator Jason Keller (Ford v. Ferrari).

Wilson will play Pryce Cahill, whose golf career ended prematurely 20 years ago. After he gets fired from his job at a sporting goods store in Indiana and his wife leaves him, Pryce sees a troubled 17-year-old golf phenom as his way back.

The series seems to echo Ted Lasso in its sports-world setting and the possibility of a redemption arc for its main character. It will join a comedy roster at Apple TV+ that also includes Shrinking, Platonic, Loot and the upcoming Palm Royale.

May December Star Charles Melton Is So Much More Than 'A Guy From Riverdale'
Image
As of publication, Michelle Williams is understood by many as one of the most gifted actors working today. She has two Golden Globe Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, has been nominated for a Tony Award, and boasts a whopping five Academy Award nominations. Her breakthrough performance in "Brokeback Mountain" in 2005 earned her first Oscar nomination, and she's been one of the most highly sought-after performers ever since. But "Brokeback Mountain" was not Williams' first role, nor was she some actor plucked from obscurity and tossed into prestige cinema. For six seasons, Williams starred as Jen Lindley on "Dawson's Creek," one of the most formative teen dramas in television history.

And yet when she nabbed the role of Alma Beers del Mar in "Brokeback Mountain," the general conversation wasn't fixated on her years as a television teen star, nor were people dismissing her casting due to previous appearances in teen films...

Percy Jackson Season 1 Reportedly Cost as Much as The Mandalorian
Image
The Season 1 budget for Percy Jackson and the Olympians has reportedly been revealed.

According to Variety, the budget for Percy Jackson Season 1 was between $12 million and $15 million per episode, putting it on par with the Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian. It is worth noting that Disney declined to comment on the accuracy of these budget figures. However, based on the visuals shown in the trailers and the level of talent attached to the project, it stands to reason that Percy Jackson did cost as much as The Mandalorian, which remains one of the most-watched original series on Disney+.

Most Underrated Child Film Actors
Image
Finding the perfect child actor for a feature-length film in Hollywood isn't always easy. Younger performers sometimes struggle to convey the complex breadth of emotions that many adults can realistically exhibit. That being said, some child actors stand above the rest. They have successfully captured audiences' hearts with breathtaking and surprisingly mature performances. Unfortunately, some of them are woefully underrated.

Some current younger actors, like Shahadi Wright Joseph in Lion King (2019), show extraordinary talent but aren't widely recognized despite appearing in high-profile projects. Other actors, like Anna Chlumsky in My Girl, thrived in roles as child actors, but have since become less prominent in their older years. Whether they are currently underappreciated or have all but disappeared from Hollywood's gaze, these actors deserve to be spotlighted for their uncontestable talent.

Rose Byrne Channeled Her Inner Eric Bana for ‘Ninja Turtles’ Voice Role by Going ‘Fully Aussie’

Rose Byrne jumped at the chance to voice Leatherhead in “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” when producer-star Seth Rogen asked her to join the film. “It was ridiculous,” the “Physical” actor tells me. “Seth was like, ‘I want you to do just fully Aussie — just go for it!’

“I was like, ‘I’m going to do my best Eric Bana.’ This is an homage to Eric,” Byrne continues. “It was a group recording, and I’d never done that before for a voice job. Seth was there, and he had such high energy from beginning to end. There’s ‘Mayhem’ in the title, and it was like mayhem. Not in a bad way. It was fun mayhem.”

Byrne joked that her many collaborations with Rogen, which include the 2014 comedy “Neighbors” and Apple TV+’s “Platonic,” don’t have her husband, Bobby Cannavale, worried. “He’s our biggest cheerleader,” she says.

‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’ Sequel and Paramount+ Series in the Works (Exclusive)
Image
Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies are developing a sequel to “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” and planning a two-season series that will serve as a “bridge” between the films. The spinoff series, titled “Tales of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” will appear on Paramount+.

It’s a sign of how bullish the studio is feeling about “Mutant Mayhem,” an animated adventure that opens theatrically on August 2. Paramount and Nickelodeon chief Brian Robbins has made rebooting the Turtles a top priority after the live-action film franchise ran out of steam with 2016’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.”

Paramount+ Submits ‘Teen Wolf: The Movie’ for Emmys Consideration (Exclusive)
Image
The wolf pack is hoping for Emmys love.

“Teen Wolf: The Movie,” Paramount+’s adaptation of the MTV supernatural-thriller series, has been submitted for the Primetime Emmy Awards for outstanding television movie, Variety has learned exclusively.

Moreover, the streamer also submitted the film in five other categories: lead actor in a limited or anthology series or movie (Tyler Posey), directing (Russell Mulcahy), writing, prosthetic makeup and original music and lyrics (“Lemon” by Tyler Posey). This provides Posey, who plays the True Alpha werewolf Scott and produces the film, three chances for recognition.

Read: Variety’s Awards Circuit for the latest Emmy predictions in all categories.

An unlikely contender to receive recognition, primarily based on the Academy ignoring the MTV original series, it’s fun to see networks throw hail marys for its genre programming. This year, the TV movie race is expected to have an abundance of genre films such...

How a Group of Lionsgate Execs Built a Diversity Pipeline That’s Kickstarting Careers
Image
It wasn’t their job, until they made it their job.

That’s the surprisingly innovative ethos behind Lionsgate’s Production Inclusion Coalition program, started by a group of physical and postproduction staffers during the early months of the pandemic. Pic includes a growing number of tangible action plans to widen and diversify the industry pipelines for both entry-level and experienced talent from historically excluded backgrounds and geographic regions outside Hollywood.

“Where we started was how we could change the visibility of everybody on set first, starting with our productions,” Jamie Clevenger, vice president of physical production for the motion picture group, tells The Hollywood Reporter. “We wanted to start at the bottom with the PAs and grow careers but also get new names and faces in front of our team members on the department head level as well, so we tried to tackle it from the top and the bottom at the same time.

Where can you watch the fun family movie Secret Headquarters? Find out everything you need to know right here, then see Owen Wilson rock another dad-tastic role.

Every child sees their father as their first superhero, but what if you’re an adolescent boy who accidentally learns that the reason your absentee dad’s job keeps him too busy to spend time with you is that he is a literal superhero whose job is saving the world from evildoers?

A new Paint poster finds Owen Wilson’s Carl Nargle smiling while surrounded by happy little trees
Image
I don’t know if anything is more soothing than Owen Wilson smiling while sporting a mighty blonde afro. With light twinkling in his eyes, Wilson stares into the distance, surrounded by happy little trees for IFC Films‘ new Paint poster. It’s moments like this when I’m thankful Wilson is experiencing a resurgence in cinema. Between starring in Marvel’s Loki and Disney’s Haunted Mansion and becoming powered up for the underrated Secret Headquarters family film, Wilson is in a good place.

Paint stars Owen Wilson as Vermont’s #1 public television painter, Carl Nargle, for Brit McAdams’ latest project, and Bob Ross fans are salivating.

In Paint, Wilson’s Nargle is convinced he has it all: a signature perm, custom van, and fans hanging on his every stroke. Yup! Nargle is on top of the world until a younger, better artist steals everything (and everyone) Carl loves.

Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Here’s What’s New on Amazon Prime Video in March 2023
Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Amazon Prime Video has popped off with plenty of new content for March 2023 with original shows and some great catches for films to stream. “Top Gun: Maverick” will arrive March 24, and Jordan Peele’s “Nope” before that on March 21. For those anticipating “Creed III,” the first two films starring and directed by Michael B. Jordan will become available at the beginning of March along with all of the “Rocky” films as well as “Cinderella Man” for the broader boxing buff community. A theatrical release from 2022, “The Silent Twins,” starring Letitia Wright and Tamara Lawrence arrives March 7.

Friday March 3 will see “Daisy Jones & The Six” rock the world when the band’s epic limited series comes out. Amazon Prime Video New Releases: March 2023
Image
With its list of new releases for March 2023, Amazon Prime Video might be rolling out its most impressive monthly lineup yet.

We know that sounds like something straight out of a press release but in this case, it’s actually true! Prime Video, bless it, has some excellent original titles like The Boys and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but its monthly release updates have often been less inspiring than its TV peers. That’s certainly not the case with March 2023 though.

Prime Video gets its streaming party started early by premiering the first three episodes of Daisy Jones & The Six on March 3. This series, based on a book of the same name, tells the fictional Behind the Music-esque story of an equally fictional band. Then, on March 17, Amazon’s partnership with Donald Glover bears its first fruit with the series about obsessive fandom called Swarm. Reggie Jackson documentary Reggie premieres...

Everything Coming to Prime Video in March 2023
Image
March is still winter, no matter which animal you ask, which means it’s still completely acceptable to cancel all plans and curl up under a blanket in front of the TV. Prime Video’s movie library updates throughout the month, with most of its new additions on March 1 — including the “Rocky” saga, multiple “Carrie” adaptations, “12 Angry Men,” and more.

For Prime users who love books and TV, March means the highly-anticipated premiere of “Daisy Jones & the Six,” based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The eponymous Daisy (Riley Keough) and Billy Dunne’s band (Sam Claflin) make a mean match, starting with a hit single and leading to what seems like endless fame and glory. But where there is success there is peril, and both the band’s rise and an electric connection with Daisy threaten Billy’s marriage and everyone’s personal lives. James Ponsoldt,...

Owen Wilson Follows in Bob Ross’ Footsteps as Quirky TV Artist in ‘Paint’ Trailer
Image
Owen Wilson appears to be channeling his inner Bob Ross in the first trailer for IFC Films’ upcoming comedy Paint.

Director Brit McAdams’ film is set for release on April 7 and stars Wilson as Carl Nargle, the beloved host of a long-running instructional painting series on Vermont public television. Trouble arises when a younger painter played by Ciara Renée is hired to attract a different demographic, exacerbating Carl’s deep-seated insecurities about his own artistic talents.

“You’re entitled to your favorite TV show — that’s what makes this country great,” a frustrated Carl begrudgingly admits in the trailer just before he is seen hurling a can of paint at a wall.

The footage also shows Wilson’s character receiving plenty of attention from female supporters, including an awkward moment involving a fondue outing with one particularly devoted fan.

Paint’s cast includes Michaela Watkins, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Lusia Strus and Stephen Root.

Image
The Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians has potentially already been renewed for season 2 if its lead star is to be believed. The series, which is set to premiere on the streaming platform in early 2024, is the latest live-action adaptation to be based on the children's book series of the same name by Rick Riordan, which follows a young man named Percy Jackson who discovers that he is the son of Poseidon and is whisked off to Camp Half-Blood, a training ground for demigods. The property was originally adapted into a pair of films - 2010's Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and 2013's Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters - starring Logan Lerman in the title role.

Every Superhero Movie Of 2022 Ranked From Worst To Best
Image
Continuing the dominant cinematic trend of the 21st century, 2022 has seen a number of superhero movies come and go. Although the ever-popular MCU added another three movies to round out Phase 4, the year was perhaps more diverse in terms of superhero output than some previous periods. With DC in turmoil prior to the arrival of James Gunn and Peter Safran, 2022 has arguably trended away from the vast, interconnected storytelling that defined previous years, with several standalone projects coming to the fore. As such, ranking every superhero movie in 2022 from worst to best is a more difficult task than it might have been previously.

For the purposes of this list, the only titles under consideration have received a widespread international release, whether on streaming or in theaters – explaining the absence of superhero movies like Satria Dewa: Gatotkaca and Sri Ashih. Additionally, special presentations such as Werewolf By Night and The Guardians...

Billy Eichner at an event for The Oscars (2015)
New Release Wall

“Bros” (Universal Pictures Home Entertainment): The comedy that carried the weight of so many competing expectations that it’s a miracle it exists at all, “Bros” is the queer zeitgeist moment that gave away a few too many gay secrets to the straight audiences who saw it, but for better or worse, those secrets were delightfully funny. Co-writer Billy Eichner stars as a gay man indifferent to love but still open to possibilities when a traditional handsome jock (Luke Macfarlane) enters the picture. It turns out both of them have been traumatized by the homophobic world around them, but they figure it out in “When Harry Met Sally…” style by the end. That’s not a spoiler; all rom-coms end that way.

“Amsterdam” (20th Century/New Regency): The latest from David O. Russell is a crime epic starring Margot Robbie, John David Washington,...

Disenchanted Producer Defends Movie's Disney+ Streaming Release
Image
Disenchanted producer Barry Josephson defends the decision to give the film an exclusive streaming release on Disney+. Disenchanted is the long-awaited sequel to the hit 2007 romantic comedy Enchanted, which achieved critical acclaim for its satirical take on Disney animated features. Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, and Idina Menzel will all be returning to reprise their roles for the sequel. The film will follow married couple Giselle (Adams) and Robert (Dempsey) as they decide to move from their Manhattan home to the suburbs, and a wish from an unhappy Giselle unwittingly throws both their world and Andalasia out of balance.

In an interview with Deadline, Josephson defends the decision to give Disenchanted a streaming release rather than a theatrical release. The decision is in line with other recent releases that have opted for the streaming route, but not everyone has warmed to the idea yet. However, for Josephson, with Disney...

Only Murders In The Building Season 3 Adds Grey's Anatomy Star
Image
Only Murders in the Building season 3 adds a Grey's Anatomy star to the cast. Ever since debuting on Hulu late last year, the series has been a success with both audiences and critics, thanks partially to the chemistry of its leading trio: Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. The mystery-comedy also benefits from an expansive supporting ensemble, which has featured big actors and some fairly inspired cameos. That continued into the Only Murders in the Building season 2 finale, which solves the case of Bunny Folger's death and then jumps a year ahead to reveal that Paul Rudd has joined the show.

Rather than playing a heightened version of himself, as other notable guests of the Hulu hit have, the Ant-Man star portrays a prickly theater actor named Ben Glenroy. He dies while performing on stage, and seems to have had a long-standing issue with his co-star, Martin's Charles-Haden Savage.
