Teased late last month at Next On Netflix, Omar Sy’s next project for the streamer won’t be the anticipated—and as of yet unconfirmed on the record—season 4 of Lupin but rather an original movie taking full advantage of his star power. Described as a romantic comedy in the vein of Notting Hill, the movie is set to be released later this year. Here is everything we know about the project so far.
Directed by first-time helmer Nina Rives, the movie is loosely based on the Israeli series Ish Hashuv Meod (VIP) and was shot last summer in Paris (filmed dates were between May and July 2024). The executive producer is Hugo Gélin, who has also co-written the dialogue – and is also notably the husband of Nina Rives. Gélin is himself experienced in rom-coms, with Love At Second Sight (Mon Inconnue); he also directed Sy in 2016 for...

Louis Leterrier has directed the action films The Transporter, Transporter 2, Unleashed, and Fast X, the action comedies The Brothers Grimsby and The Takedown, the mystery thriller Now You See Me, the fantasy adventure Clash of the Titans, and the comic book adaptation The Incredible Hulk (not to mention the TV shows The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and Lupin), and over the decades his films have racked up $2 billion at the box office. Last May, we learned that he’ll be directing and producing the film 11817, working from a screenplay by Matthew Robinson (The Invention of Lying), which will see him venturing into the sci-fi horror realm. That same month, it was announced that Kingsley Ben-Adir (Bob Marley: One Love) and Greta Lee (Past Lives) would be starring in the film… but now it looks like Ben-Adir has had to drop out, with Wagner Moura (Civil War) stepping in as his replacement.

Louis Leterrier, the director of Fast X, expressed interest in adapting popular online video game Fortnite into a movie during a directors panel at San Diego Comic-Con. He believes there is a lot more to be told and thinks it would be funny and full of action. Leterrier's background in directing action-comedy hybrids like The Takedown and The Brothers Grimsby make him a good fit for a Fortnite movie, as the game combines elements of both genres. He has experience in handling large ensemble casts, which would likely be necessary for the film. While it's uncertain if the Fortnite movie will actually happen, Leterrier's experience and expertise in action and ensemble casts make him the right director to bring the game to life on the big screen if given the opportunity.

Very rarely do filmmakers helm the remakes of their own films. In these cases, they are movies like 1993’s The Vanishing, in which director George Sluizer remade his original 1988 international thriller of the same name for an English-language adaptation in the United States with American stars Jeff Bridges, Kiefer Sutherland and Nancy Travis. Action legend John Woo would do the same, albeit to a smaller degree, as he remade his 1991 film, Once a Thief, into a TV movie in 1996.
The guns-a-blazing maestro is at it again. This time, with the movie that many regard as his best film, 1989’s The Killer, which starred his frequent collaborator, Chow-Yun Fat. According to World of Reel, Woo has already started production on the remake of The Killer, which will be taking place in France. The film is set to star Nathalie Emmanuel and Omar Sy. Orange Studio is co-producing and has French distribution rights, as well as handles international sales. When Justin Lin stepped away from "Fast X" citing that age-old excuse of "creative differences," Universal was forced to hire a replacement immediately. At the time, shooting on the 10th "Fast and Furious" movie had just got underway, with Lin leaving days after the cameras started rolling on a film that would form part of one of the biggest franchises in Hollywood history.
Lin had overseen multiple films in the "Fast" saga, from "Tokyo Drift" to "Fast & Furious," "Fast Five," "Fast and Furious 6," and "F9." He was the man in charge as the franchise shifted away from street racing and towards the all-out action blockbuster series it's known as today. “The Little Nicholas: Happy as Can Be” by Benjamin Massoubre and Amandine Fredon is having its world premiere at a Special Screening at the Cannes Film Festival on May 20.
Several years in the making, the film brings together the world-famous French schoolboy and his creators, author René Goscinny and cartoonist Jean-Jacques Sempé, as it goes back and forth between their world and his imaginary world.
Translated into more than 30 languages, the Little Nicholas short stories have been adapted to fiction but never to animation until now. For the creative team, it was essential to stay true both to Goscinny’s short stories and to Sempé’s drawings.
“The main challenge was to create the Little Nicholas’ world in animation and, at the same time, remain faithful to Sempé’s style – his drawings are very small, they’re made in ink, which gives them a sort of awkward but very lively energy,...

After almost three absurdly long years, “Stranger Things” Season 4 is just around the corner. A tentpole series for Netflix — at a whopping production cost of reportedly 30 million per episode — the fan-favorite sci-fi show that launched its young adult cast, led by Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard, into superstardom will be dropping new episodes May 27.
And, according to the Emmy-winning series’ executive producer Shawn Levy, it’s going to be “harrowing,” “cinematic” and “epic.” He told TheWrap in a recent interview, “This is so much more story and runtime than ever before, not by a little. By a lot.”
The last month of spring will also see the return of reality series titles like “The Circle” — a social media-driven competition series where players catfish, befriend and flirt with each other with the aim of winning a grand cash prize — and “Bling Empire” — which centers on a group of uber-wealthy Asian American friends in Beverly Hills.

Sony ruled for another week as “Uncharted” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (both 19.99) each had #1 showings: The video game adaptation is #1 at iTunes and Vudu, while the massive Marvel hit took top spot at Google Play.
This reinforces the strategic wisdom of two Sony decisions: the extended theatrical window for both films (far longer than the now-standard 45 days) and relying on PVOD rather than the increasingly costly and competitive realm of in-house streaming. It also maintains flexibility, with the Marvel underachiever “Morbius” arriving on PVOD release May 17. Sony seems to key its releases to when theatrical viability wanes.
Tomorrow will see “The Lost City” (Paramount/19.99) on PVOD and Paramount+. As with “The Batman,” the studio’s PR announcement pushed streaming. The Sandra Bullock/Channing Tatum romantic adventure could make the 100 million domestic mark (94 million through the weekend), which can deotermine film rental settlements with theaters.

The “Lupin” duo of filmmaker Louis Leterrier and star Omar Sy reunites in the new Netflix action film “The Takedown,” but unfortunately the result is seriously underbaked and awkwardly problematic.
A sequel to the 2008 French film “On the Other Side of the Tracks”, “The Takedown” stars Laurent Lafitte as Francois Monge, Omar Sy as Diakité Ousmane and French rock singer Izïa Higelin as Alice. Louis Leterrier (“Lupin,” “Now You See Me”) directs the film, leading Netflix’s new slate of French-language originals coming to the streaming service.
Both films pay homage to ’80s classics like “Lethal Weapon” and “Beverly Hills Cop,” and Sy even regularly sports Axel Foley’s signature baseball jacket and jeans. Occasionally buddy cop movies, when given good ingredients like a proper script, good physical comedy, and well-executed action scenes, can be a recipe for a comedic blockbuster.
“The Takedown,” unfortunately, didn’t stay in the oven long enough.

It will still be a few months (or more than a few months) before we get to see the first trailer for “Fast X,” but it’s hard to imagine a better (or at least more indicative) preview of next summer’s most Nos-brained soap opera than Netflix’s “The Takedown,” .
Of course, Louis Leterrier isn’t exactly an unknown quantity; between the likes of “The Transporter,” “Clash of the Titans,” and “Now You See Me,” the Luc Besson protégé has built a singular résumé of flashy, semi-functional, thoroughly mediocre studio movies that could’ve been made by anyone else. In that sense, his latest opus is vintage Leterrier, if also better-paced and more charismatic than any of his previous features have been.
Frothier than the average Netflix programmer but no less forgettable, “The Takedown” epitomizes why Leterrier might be able to stop “Fast X” from speeding off a cliff...

It’s easy to see why Netflix wanted to reteam actor Omar Sy and director Louis Leterrier in something, anything, given the popularity of their previous collaboration, the French thriller series “Lupin.” But U.S. viewers may be a tad puzzled by the streamer’s decision to green-light as their follow-up a popcorn movie as nondescript as “The Takedown” — a sequel to “On the Other Side of the Tracks” (“De l’autre côté du périph”), a lightweight 2012 French-produced buddy-cop action-comedy that, whatever its popularity in its home territory, received only (very) limited release by The Weinstein Company in this county.
On the other hand: Leterrier — whose credits also include “Now You See Me” and the first two entries in the “Transporter” franchise — has just this week been given the keys to “Fast X,” replacing the creatively distanced Justin Lin as director for the next installment of the “Fast & Furious” franchise.

Director Louis Leterrier is officially set to steer “Fast X” after longtime “Fast and Furious” director Justin Lin exited the franchise last week amicably over creative differences.
Letterier is set to take over the Universal film starring Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Sung Kang, Ludacris, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Nathalie Emmanuel, plus Charlize Theron, Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, and Cardi B.
Director Lin left the film one week into production, issuing a social media announcement to explain the “difficult decision” to step down as director. He will still be on board as a producer, though.
“Over 10 years and five films, we have been able to shoot the best actors, the best stunts, and the best damn car chases,” Lin said. “On a personal note, as the child of Asian immigrants, I am proud of helping to build the most diverse franchise in movie history. As the undisputed king of streaming (for now at least), Netflix has enjoyed the presence of some major blockbusters. Now, with its list of new releases for May 2022, Netflix is bringing back one of its biggest ever hits.
Stranger Things season 4 “volume one” is set to premiere on May 27. It’s been a long wait for new episodes of this ’80s-tinged sci-fi/horror series and based on the trailers, the wait will have been well worth it. In this go-around, the kids of Hawkins (now high schoolers) will have to contend with the Upside Down once again to go along with the horrors of the Creel House.
While Stranger Things is the biggest Netflix original this month, it’s far from the only one. Mike Myers’ latest series The Pentaverate premieres on May 5 (fittingly: 5/5). Meanwhile The Lincoln Lawyer is set to arrive on May 13 followed by Love, Death & Robots Volume...

Do you miss having Omar Sy's suave criminal Assane Diop on your TV screen? Fear not! The French actor will reprise his world-famous role as the self-styled "Gentleman Thief" in the upcoming "Lupin" Part 3, which is now in production and was recently the target of a real-life heist itself. Still, if you're looking for a film that can satisfy your need to watch Sy run amok in France, then you may want to check out the upcoming crime-caper "The Takedown."

Netflix has dropped a trailer for “The Takedown,” a cop comedy directed by “Lupin” helmer Louis Leterrier and starring Omar Sy and Laurent Lafitte. The movie is a sequel to the French comedy “On The Other Side Of The Tracks.”
Sy and Lafitte star as two cops with very different styles and backgrounds who are reunited for criminal investigation across France. What seems to be a simple drug deal turns out to be a high level case wrapped in danger and unexpected comedy. The script is penned by Stéphane Kazandjian.
“‘The Takedown’ is the logical continuation of a close relationship with Omar Sy: we got along so well on Lupin that we were looking for other projects,” said Leterrier, adding that he found the script “extremely funny and dynamic on topical subjects that are difficult to tackle in a comedy.”

"What'd you say before? A real team, a real duo." Netflix has debuted the full-length main trailer for the French action comedy movie called The Takedown, the latest from Hollywood director Louis Leterrier. This is actually a sequel to the film On the Other Side of the Tracks from 2012, following Omar Sy and Laurent Lafitte - two cops with very different lives. The unlikely pair are reunited once again for a new investigation that takes them across France. This seems a bit like France's Rush Hour series, about these two goofballs getting entangled in taking down a big crime syndicate while crazy things keep happening. Netflix has dropped the first full trailer for its upcoming buddy cop action comedy The Takedown. Lupin’s Omar Sy reteams with Laurent Lafitte in the follow-up to their 2012 On The Other Side Of The Tracks. In another reunion, Lupin director Louis Leterrier has the reins. The French film is part of Netflix’s drive to ramp up local feature productions and launches globally on the streamer on May 6. Check out the dubbed trailer above.
The story centers on Ousmane Diakité (Sy) and François Monge (Lafitte), two cops with very different styles, backgrounds and careers. When the unlikely pair is reunited for a criminal investigation that takes them across France, what seemed to be a simple drug deal turns out to be a high level case wrapped in danger and unexpected comedy. Izia Higelin also stars.
Leterrier commented that the film is a “logical continuation of a close relationship with Omar Sy.

Omar Sy is back as Ousmane Diakité in "The Takedown," a French action-adventure set to be released by Netflix this summer, and one that promises a lot of action, social commentary, and Omar Sy being his suave self.
"The Takedown" is a sequel to the French action-comedy "On the Other Side of the Tracks" from 2012, which wasn't shown in the U.S. until 2014 when it got an incredibly limited release. Now, thanks to the huge popularity of "Lupin," it seems Netflix is all in on the Omar Sy business, and so we are.

Netflix today provided a taste of its slate of original French productions coming up in 2022, which includes 25 new titles for launch this year and 20 projects currently in production. The slate, selected and developed by the Netflix France creative team, reps a total investment of more than 200M euros ($221M) across 2022. The streamer recently signed a deal with the French industry in which it committed to producing at least 10 local films per year, investing about 40M euros ($45M).
Among the projects highlighted during a presentation in Paris today was Romain Gavras’ formerly untitled feature, which is now called Athena. An immersive and modern tragedy, it stars Dali Benssalah, Sami Slimane, Anthony Bajon and is co-written with Oscar nominee Ladj Ly (Les Misérables) and Elias Belkeddar. The logline reads: In the space of a few hours following the tragic death of their younger brother in troubling circumstances, the men’s lives will tip over into chaos.
