I'm usually not a big horror fan, but this movie was the exception. It was a great script, with great acting. All the characters were developed nicely. I loved that they didn't just go from one action scene to another without thought to the characters and the story. The film was unique and not your typical horror movie. So many horror movies have bad acting and only seem to care about trying to shock you. The Burned Over District kept me engaged and had the perfect amount of gore! The quality of the movie was fantastic. Some Independent Movies look low budget but this did not. Awesome movie that both horror fans and non horror fans will love!
Right, while I had never heard about the 2022 horror movie "The Burned Over District", I needed no persuasion to sit down and watch it, as I stumbled upon the movie by random chance here in 2025. It being a horror movie was more than sufficient for me to check it out, as I am big horror fan, after all.
The storyline in the movie, as written by James Coleman and Vincent Coleman, proved a bit of a swing and a miss. The narrative was somewhat slow paced and there wasn't a whole lot of interesting things taking place throughout the course of the 103 minutes that the movie ran for.
I was not familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, though I will say that the acting performances were indeed fair enough, despite of the fact that the script was rubbish.
Visually then you're not in for anything grand. Sure, the special effects were adequate for a movie such as this, but don't get your hopes up.
Would I recommend you to spend 103 minutes on watching "The Burned Over District"? No. Will I ever return to watch it a second time? No.
My rating of directors James Coleman and Vincent Coleman's 2022 movie "The Burned Over District" lands on a three out of ten stars.

This movie hits so many different horror movie elements while still keeping you on your toes and has a compelling storyline with twist and turns I seriously didn't see coming! I Would highly recommend this movie to anyone who loves this genre 10/10!! The creative minds behind this movie have also started a mini series on YouTube that is TO DIE FOR!!! If you love horror and thriller movies then you and your friends will be on the edge of your seats in the ever thickening plot twists that makes up the story behind The Burned Over District! These up and coming directors have it all down pat with this movie!!
This starts with a terrible accident where a woman dies. In the aftermath, her widowed husband tries to make sense of what has happened whilst his family rally around him. I could not have guessed where this was going and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of this movie. It has some truly scary moments and bags of atmosphere. The acting feels natural and whilst this isn't a mega budget production, it shows real promise for all the key players. I will certainly be looking out for other movies from this team. It's dark and brooding but not in a contrived way. Some scenes are difficult to watch but not lingering. I'd definitely recommend this, give it a go!
The Burned Over District offers a compelling mix of horror, suspense, love, and gore, making for a gripping viewing experience. Throughout the film, a tangible sense of unease keeps audiences on the edge of their seats, while Mike Chibante's exceptional score further enhances the atmosphere. Vince and James Coleman have crafted a weighty narrative that begins explosively and gradually unfolds into unexpected territory. Their work on this film showcases their talent and creativity, offering a refreshing departure from conventional storytelling. As a viewer, I found it exhilarating to watch something different and look forward to seeing more from the Coleman Brothers in the future. Overall, I would rate The Burned Over District a perfect 10/10 for its outstanding execution and immersive storytelling.
