The film is not too original in its plot, a successful and beautiful city woman goes back to her family living in an indebted family ranch where she also meets someone new. It is a feel good Christmas romance with nice cosy atmosphere, likeable characters, romance, family drama and a bit of humour. I think it is great - we need more wlw feel good movies, especially during the holidays.
I loved it was a christmas movie about lesbians, and the cowgirl helped this movie out a lot, but it's 100% cheesy, and the movie could have been made better if they put just a little bit more effort. Plus, it drove me nuts they decided to call the grandmother "me-maw". I know people that call their grandmother that, but it just sounded so stupid in this movie. Was that done on purpose? And what rancher drives anything but a truck? A Mitsubishi SUV, really? Maybe it's because I'm from Texas, but SURELY SOMEONE in the film crew drove a Chevy or a Ford F150! I know it's low budget, but there were so many opportunities to make this film more believable had they just put 10% more effort into it. Instead it gave me an opportunity to mock a movie for an hour... just my girlfriend's luck!
I really enjoyed the setting, characters, and clever dialogue of this holiday movie. This movie is funny and the interactions feel believable and not awkward. All the holiday romance movie clichés are covered, but this movie is not heavily steeped in Christmas. The snowy ranch scenery is just gorgeous - and we get Lindsay Wagner! That is a definite bonus. The script is very clever and all the actors delivered compelling performances. The production quality is top notch and my only knock would be that the sound editing is uneven at times. I would watch a sequel or even a television show based on the premise of this movie.
Cute movie with attractive characters. I enjoyed watching this before Christmas. The fact that the two main characters are lesbians was a treat, but also in how their sexuality was relatively incidental and not a big deal. Definitely a PG movie, too. I wouldn't hesitate to watch it with family. My only complaint is it wasn't long enough.
Okay, I know that it's formulaic and basically just a slight variation of the typical love story ... but it was really lighthearted and kind of fun.
I've been binge-watching girl/girl love stories lately and, although I generally love them, a lot of them are rather dark. Christmas at the Ranch was a fun diversion.
The two leads were very attractive and, while not perfect, seemed to have a good chemistry together. One of my favorite scenes was during the winter storm, when they innocently had to spend the night together. The squirming and manipulation on the bed made me giggle and reminded me of sharing the bed with one of my sisters or at sleepovers with platonic girlfriends when I was a child. Recommended.
