      Had Potential BUT..............

Saviour Monk (1975) is about a guy who gives up his earthly crap to become a monk and travels the world (or China) to be an idiot. On his quest, he must protect some people from some evil wizards or whatever and deal with his stupid wife.

Saviour Monk is a fantasy/drama/adventure movie. It is not a Kung Fu movie for those who care. This movie contains corny sorcery, some sword fights, a monster fight between a dragon and some bug-eyed thing, Doris Lung doing a hootchie mama dance and so forth. Now, this sounds like something of a spectacle but it is not. What ultimately ruins the movie is slow pacing and horrible melodrama. The dialog and drama in between some of the left-field elements is long and boring. So yes, it is not your typical crackhead Chinese movie to the likes of Super Infra Man or Battle Wizard. It's slow and meaningless.

Whatever sword play this film has to offer is awful. It's slow as **** and a lot less evolved than 60's Wuxia Pian movies. The special effects are just plain crappy. I can't explain it but take my word for it. The only redeemable thing about the movie is the monster fight but it's very short so not worth the effort.

In Conclusion: It may be worth one look but if I were you, I just forget about this all together and find something else to watch.... LIKE PAINT DRY! OH!

There is no reason to watch this movie

The prince is born and quickly grows up. The king arranges a politically correct marriage for him. The prince wants to be a monk and refuses to consummate the marriage. A Taoist ghost appears and advises the prince. He leaves the palace and walks among the people. Doris finally enters the picture just before I was ready to fall asleep. She plays an insane person. In these movies, insanity is always portrayed unrealistically as inappropriate laughing. Our prince, now a monk, gets a chance to cure her or expel her demons.

Initially this movie looks and feels very old, like a Chinese movie from the 1960s or 1950s. This movie caught my eye because of Doris Lung Chun-Erh, whom I affectionately call "Crazy Doris". She is a natural for the part of the crazy chick in this movie. I first tried to watch this movie about five years ago but could not sit through it so posted no review. I tried again to watch it today. I can say I did watch it with the help of the fast forward button so here is my review.

I came to see martial arts and Crazy Doris. I saw hardly any of both. I wrote my review and I am done with this total stinker. I recommend watching grass grow, ice melt, or paint dry as an alternative to watching this.
