Deadline has just revealed that Gus Van Sant’s upcoming project, Dead Man’s Wire, has secured Bill Skarsgård and Dacre Montgomery for his leads. The movie is a hostage thriller that is based on a true story. “The film follows a former real estate developer who takes the mortgage banker who did him wrong hostage, demanding $5 million and a personal apology.” The script was written by scribe Austin Kolodney.

Exclusive: David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil), Ashley Greene (Twilight), and newcomer Samantha Cochran will topline The Cure, a horror thriller from director Nancy Leopardi that has wrapped production in Los Angeles.

Written by Jonathan Bernstein and James Greer, who penned Steven Soderbergh’s Unsane, the film centers on Cochran’s Ally Braun, an adopted 16-year-old with a mysterious illness who learns her bio-tech billionaire parents (Dastmalchian and Greene) are harvesting her blood for nefarious purposes.

In a statement to Deadline, Leopardi called the film “a satirical take on the modern billionaire class cloaked in a crowd-pleasing thriller,” adding, “The Cure is made in the tradition of classic horror and sci-fi films that are inspired by terrifying socio-political realities and advances in bio-technology. Like Ex-Machina, A.I., and Videodrome I believe we are on the cusp of a revolution in science and the big question is – who will benefit?”

Prey! is not to be confused with the Predator film of the same name, Dick Maas’s lion loose in Amsterdam thriller, the 2007 film about a family of tourists stalked by lions or any of the seemingly endless list of action films and slashers bearing that title. This Prey! is about a pair of American missionaries Andrew and Sue living in a village somewhere in Africa.

Andrew is already having a bad day. He’s a doctor and had a young boy die on the operating table because the medical supplies they were expecting hadn’t arrived on time. It gets worse when he’s told he and Sue need to make a fast exit, Boko Haram soldiers are heading towards the village.

Actor M. Emmet Walsh has passed away.

Per TheWrap, it's been revealed that M. Emmet Walsh died on Tuesday, March 19, at Kerbs Memorial Hospital in St. Albans, Vermont. His passing was confirmed by his manager, Sandy Joseph, who verified that Walsh died of cardiac arrest. Walsh was 88 years old.

Walsh was born on March 22, 1935. He made his acting debut in 1969's Alice's Restaurant, starting a career that would see him take on over 200 roles over the next five decades. The actor would follow this up with roles in movies like Midnight Cowboy and Serpico before landing more recognizable roles in 1977's Slap Shot and 1978's Straight Time. Walsh would also pick up a memorable role in the classic Steve Martin comedy The Jerk in 1979.

One of Walsh's best-known roles was in the original Blade Runner movie, released by director Ridley Scott in 1982; he played the role of Captain Harry Bryant.

This is a new movie called Prey, which Vertical will be giving a theatrical and VOD release on March 15th. It seems kind of soon to be sending another movie called Prey out into the world, but clearly Vertical disagrees. Vertical fully financed the pic and has taken North American rights, with Voltage Pictures locking down rights for all international territories, preparing now to present the film to buyers at Cannes.

In the film written and directed by Mukunda Michael Dewil (Collide), a young couple is forced to flee their Christian missionary post in the Kalahari Desert aboard a rickety plane after an extremist militant group threatens their lives. Piloted by a corrupt smuggler (Hirsch), the plane loses power and crash-lands in the middle of an animal preserve populated by lions, leopards and hyenas. Injured, frightened, and being tracked by the extremists, this ragtag group must fight for their survival from both man and beast where only the strong will survive.

Exclusive: Productivity Media (Pmi) and Wind Sun Sky Entertainment (Wss) have hired producer Navid McIlhargey as Head of Content for both companies.

McIlhargey, who previously worked at companies including New Regency and Silver Pictures, will be responsible for building a slate of live-action and animated film and TV projects and overseeing the respective content teams.

The hire comes on the heels of Pmi’s investment and first look distribution deal with Wss for film and TV.

Mcllhargey was an executive at Joe Roth’s Revolution Studios and later moved to Joel Silver’s Silver Pictures where he was an executive producer on Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla. He later became EVP at New Regency, overseeing The Darkest Hour starring Emile Hirsch and Joel Kinneman, as well as Broken City, starring Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe.

In 2015, he started his own consulting and production shingle, Vandal Entertainment, working on The Hunter’s Prayer.

Exclusive: U.S. film finance and production company Productivity Media Inc has entered an investment and first look distribution deal with Wind Sun Sky Entertainment, the Canada-based company led by former LucasFilm executive Catherine Winder, producer on Invincible, The Angry Birds Movie 1 & 2 and Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

The companies have entered into a partnership to co-produce and finance original film and TV content for the family and adult market. Winder will introduce the slate at this week’s Content London, including new projects Sparrow and The Boy Sherlock.

“Tough guy with heart of gold” is the cliché that provides the gist to “The Enforcer,” and nothing much turns up to refresh or complicate that hoary hook. This criminal-underworld thriller benefits from Antonio Banderas’ star charisma as a veteran mob strong-arm who turns against his own organization in order to rescue an imperiled teen. Richard Hughes’ feature directorial debut also elevates matters somewhat with a slick and stylish presentation. But the results remain too hogtied by original “Point Break” scribe W. Peter Iliff’s routine, elemental screenplay to rise above the level of disposable genre fodder.

Millenium and Screen Media shared today with Collider an exclusive trailer for their upcoming thriller The Enforcer. The noir thriller stars Antonio Banderas (Uncharted) and Kate Bosworth (The Immaculate Room) as members of an underground organization who go head-to-head when she puts the life of an underage girl he befriended at risk. That’s when the enforcer decides to save the girl, despite knowing that doing so may cost his life. The production companies also shared with Collider the release date of the movie, which is set for September 23.

When “The Immaculate Room” cinematographer Rasa Partin was reading the script, he saw the line “giant white room” and thought nothing of it. “Sure, it’s a giant white room,” Partin says. As he continued to read through the pages and the story unfolded, he realized, “It is just a white room with a bed. There’s nothing else.”

The premise of the film, directed and written by Mukunda Michael Dewil, is a simple one: a young couple (Kate Bosworth and Emile Hirsch) are picked to spend 50 days in “The Immaculate Room.” If they manage to stay in the room, with no outside stimulation, they will walk away with a prize fund of 5 million each.

Partin’s first hurdle was how to approach shooting in the white room. Thanks to the pandemic, shooting was delayed by nine months. Typically, he would have worked with a production designer, but since Dewil didn’t have one,...

The Bad...

It’s a chicly austere and, at stray moments, provocative tabloid thriller in which Kate (Kate Bosworth) and Mikey (Emile Hirsch), as part of a mysterious contest, agree to spend 50 days living in a large bare white room. When they first walk in, they’re greeted by a Siri voice, British and female, who makes ritual pronouncements like “It is evening. Enjoy your stay in the Immaculate Room.” If they make it through all 50 days, they’ll get 5 million in prize money. It doesn’t sound all that hard, like two months of voluntary prison time minus the dirt and danger. And that’s the hook: Who wouldn’t do this for 5 million? But the fact that it sounds so do-able means the audience is asking from minute one: What’s the catch?

In a funny way, “The Immaculate Room” is a parable of boredom, which makes it a story for our time.

The Immaculate Room, a new psychological thriller, follows a couple who are given the chance to stay in an empty white room for 50 days on a game show. If they make it, they earn an easy 5 million. But, there’s the catch and what secrets could possibly come out as they take on the challenge?

Emile Hirsch, who plays Mike, recently sat for a conversation with uInterview founder Erik Meers to discuss how he approached the film and reuniting with co-star Kate Bosworth.

“Kate and I had worked together on this film called Force of Nature that we shot in San Juan, Puerto Rico, a year or two before and we got along fantastic. On its surface, The Immaculate Room is a contest. A game. If you and your romantic partner can spend fifty days in a stark white room with nothing but a bed, minimalist couch-like ottoman, and bathroom that only allows one contestant at a time, you go home with five million dollars. It seems easy because it is—if you’re only looking at the surface. Peel back the layers of its conceit, however, and you see potential for participants to go stir-crazy with nothing but their own wits to keep them busy. Add public knowledge that the person orchestrating everything is a professor infamous for pricy social experiments that have ended in tragedy; you might think twice about whether the reward truly outweighs the risk.

Exclusive: Emile Hirsch (Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood) will exec produce and star in My Time’s Up, an upcoming indie drama from writer-director Michael MacRae (Fishbowl California).

The film is centered around fictional comedian Micky Hoffman, who faces backlash after a stand-up set—then returning to his hometown in the Midwest to mentor rising, ‘woke’ comics.

MacRae, Michael Nassau and Pritesh Shah will produce under their 290 West Productions banner, with Max Adler (The Trial of the Chicago 7) exec producing and taking on a role before the camera. Buffalo 8’s Nikki Stier Justice, Grady Justice, Luke Taylor and Matthew Helderman will also serve as executive producers on the project, which marks MacRae’s follow up to the 2018 dramedy Fishbowl California, starring Kate Flannery and Katrina Bowden. The film written by Rick and Ross Partridge (Room 104) is a remake of the 2011 German thriller Unter Nachbarn, which marked Rick’s feature directorial debut. It watches as a nightmarish evening unfolds when neighbors David (Luke Kleintank) and Robert (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) hit a woman on her bike and flee. When her sister arrives searching for the truth, Robert does unspeakable things to protect their secret.
