    Fun movie. Very enjoyable

I didn't expect it but the movie was quiet funny and story is great.

Maryam is great actress. Seemed that this role was written for her.

Finally a modern moroccan romantic comedy.

I think new moroccan generation is ready for it. At least in the Netherlands.

    I hope for meskina 2.

    Great movie

I know that Dutch movies are not the greatest, but I think this movie is very important for Dutch people to watch. Both boys and girls. I could definitely relate to the story and I found it such a relief to have a story like this presented. Times have finally changed and I am happy that my daughter is growing up in a world where there are options!

Where are the actors and actresses?

I don't like Dutch movies. Reason is that Dutch people just can't act. The few Dutch people who can, go to America to support big movie productions. This movie is about Marocan people. I like the story, I really do. But a movie just based on a good story is not watchable for me. This movie was painful to watch.

There are no actors or actresses in this movie. They searched for Marocan people and ended with Marocan stand up commedians, Marocan social media influencers and Marocan supporting actors. From the beginning to the end you see people who cannot act, trying to make this movie funny. Trying to be just isn't the real deal.

Maybe for young people, like teenagers, this movie might be funny. I don't know. For me I could not relate to these people. Jokes that are funny on paper, got lost due to terrible acting that was not realistic. Even the acting of this big girl (stand up commediant, don't know her name) who is the sister of the main character, was not funny. My 12 years old daughter likes her shows, but that does not make this girl an actress.

If you like Dutch movies filled with bad acting, go watch this one. But if bad acting is like horror to you, just avoid this one. Don't do this to yourself.

I am a Meskina, a Meskina by choice, successful and happy

"Meskina", a loser or pathetic, according to the local translation, "staying for auntie" in good Portuguese, a funny and sad film, is unfortunately what happens to many women who get married, leave their jobs, friends, home and all their possessions to follow their husband, and the protagonist almost makes the mistake twice... What an ending, Leyla's words are brave and necessary, good to know that this cry is coming from Moroccan culture, a society so patriarchal and sexist, just like most in the world... I am a Meskina, a Meskina by choice, successful and happy, I super loved the ending, girls and women need this film for life... Beautiful...

A thirty-something aspiring children's author, labeled "meskina" (pity case) by her Moroccan-Dutch community for still being career-less and single, sets out to once and for all find professional success and true love.

    Changing perpectives ...

And also same expectations ... you can't make a romantic comedy without having certain checkpoints and cliches in it. It is almost a shame that a speech towards the end, that should never happen or be allowed to happen by the way ... anyway but that a powerful speech like that, gets undermined a few minutes later by the movie itself.

But first things first. We get powerful woman who seems to be on the top of her game .. who seems fulfilled, professionally and on a personal level. But it wouldn't be a drama/movie if there wasn't some obstacles to overcome anyway. The way we (in this case she) handle things ... says a lot about us and how society views the whole situation.

That being said, for a dutch movie this is quite well done. No matter the logic issues or the missing moral compass. Though the latter seems to be on purpose ... question is if the movie and the main character can get away with it. She does not win a lot of brownie points and favor points for that matter with those watching.

But maybe you don't care and are only here for the message .. the message that as I already said gets watered down by the movie itself ... maybe it had to have some ... well what people would expect from the movie rather than entirely stick to its guns ... who knows? As it is, it is decent ...
