Snoop Dogg is facing significant criticism after performing at an inauguration party for President-elect Donald Trump.

The rapper, 53, took the stage at the first-ever Crypto Ball on Friday night in Washington D.C., an event hosted by former PayPal COO David Sacks. Sacks, a Silicon Valley investor, is set to join the Trump administration as the AI and Crypto Czar.

Footage of Snoop’s performance sparked backlash across social media. Some fans labeled the move as “culturally embarrassing” and “disrespectful.”

Critics expressed their disappointment, with one user on X writing, “Wait a goddamn minute, @SnoopDogg is playing Trump’s inauguration???? Aw hell naw.” Another user stated, “What is Snoop Dogg’s new name? I’ll go first: Snoop Fraud.”

The performance marked a shift for Snoop, who previously criticized Trump but later expressed support. In an interview last year, he stated, “Donald Trump? He ain’t done nothing wrong to me.

John Legend has a children’s album on the way, and the singer has revealed the unlikely collaborator he enlisted to produce it: Sufjan Stevens.

My Favorite Dream, out Aug. 30, also features appearances by Legend’s wife Chrissy Teigen and their two children Luna and Miles. All three contribute to the album’s first single “L-o-v-e.”

In an interview with the Associated Press, Legend spoke about recruiting Stevens for the project and what he brought to My Favorite Dream.

Grammy-winning artist John Legend is expanding his repertoire with a new endeavor. On August 30th, the singer-songwriter and instrumentalist is set to release his debut collection of children’s music, titled My Favorite Dream. The BBC has officially unveiled the return of one of the U.K.’s favorite duos: Wallace & Gromit.

The pair are back and set for a brand new adventure, made by independent studio Aardman Animations, which will premiere on the BBC and BBC iPlayer this Christmas, as well as heading to Netflix worldwide this winter.

“Black Mirror,” “Silo” and “The Last of Us” were among winners at the BAFTA TV Craft Awards on Sunday night in London.

“Black Mirror” Season 6 was among a handful of shows to take home two awards, with creator Charlie Brooker and writer Bisha K Ali winning in the drama writer category while the show also won best photography and lighting in fiction category for the episode “Demon 79.”

The awards were a win for Apple TV+ with “Silo” and “Slow Horses” also each taking home two awards, the former for original music in fiction and production design and the latter for sound in fiction and editing in fiction.

Meanwhile “The Last of Us” director Peter Hoar took home an award for best fiction director.

Period drama “The Great” also picked up a gong thanks to costume designer Sharon Long.

The awards were hosted by Stacey Dooley and guest presenters included Katie Piper and Tanya Moodie.

The BAFTA TV Craft Awards were handed out at the Brewery in East London on Sunday, April 28. The Craft Awards, like the Creative Arts Emmy, are dedicated to below-the-line categories with a dozen devoted to fictional programming, another six to factual, and four are in a combined field to make 22 categories overall. Bob Marley and the Wailers music has inspired fans since the 1970’s. From “Could You Be Loved” to “Three Little Birds” to the monumental, “One Love/People Get Ready” it all sounds timeless. And in the new feature film, Bob Marley: One Love, director Reinaldo Marcus Green celebrates the man’s legacy. Thankfully, it doesn’t simply follow the bio pic tradition. The new film places focus on the release of the extraordinary “Exodus.” The band’s attempt to put on a concert meant to bring people together plays a significant part of the feature as well. It’s a wonderful film, and yes, Kingsley Ben-Adir is utterly marvelous as the singer.

Three Little Birds is a beautiful and emotional tale of three women who had their own dreams and aspirations, moving from Jamaica to England to start a new life and build a better future. The three women: Leah, her sister Chantrelle, and their friend Hosanna had different reasons for coming to England from Jamaica. For Leah, it was to escape her abusive household and build a better future for herself and her children. Chantrelle, on the other hand, wanted to pursue her dream of becoming an actress and accepted a maid job at Wantage House in England. As for Hosanna, her journey was driven by the desire to find her father, who had left her and moved to England. Additionally, she was to marry Leah’s brother, Aston. While their motivations differed, what they shared was the common goal of making a home in England and striving for a better life.

ITV Spent $68M On Diverse Shows In 2023

ITV invested £54.2M ($68M) of its Diversity Commissioning Fund last year on shows made by or about people from under-represented backgrounds such as Lenny Henry’s Three Little Birds. The fund was launched in 2022 with £80M to be spent across three years to “drive change towards racial equity and disability equity in whose stories get told,” with one quarter reserved for content made by “production companies led by People of Colour and/or Deaf, Disabled and/or Neurodivergent people.” The figures came as part of the Love Island network’s Diversity Acceleration Plan report for the previous 12 months, which said 475 productions across around 160 production companies have embedded Dei using ITV’s production principles over the past three years. The comedian co-founded the charity with fabled director Richard Curtis in 1985 and has since hosted multiple BBC telethons and been involved closely with the organization.

He said it was time to see “new faces” at the helm but remains life president of Comic Relief – a telethon called Red Nose Day that takes place annually and features comedians, singers and actors trying to raise money for various charities.

“When we first started Comic Relief back in 1985, I never dreamed we’d still be here today,” said Henry, an actor, comedian and creative who recently launched a Banijay-backed indie, Esmerelda Productions. Musgraves wisely didn’t try to replicate Marley’s roots reggae instrumentation here. Instead, she used his melodies and evergreen lyrics over a gentle acoustic guitar strum, some minimal drums, and a pedal steel. It’s all blanketed in heavy reverb, staying authentic to the comforting quality of the original song while making it her own.

Christian Wikander, the well-respected Swedish executive who joined Banijay nine months ago as global head of scripted, will be stepping down from his role on Feb. 2. Speaking to Variety shortly after news broke of his upcoming exit, Wikander said he was “sad to be leaving” the company, but sees as as a “reflection of these times in the business.”

“We see these types of changes happening in the business, because we’ve gone from a very high position across many territories and we’re going through a time of correction that affects buyers and everyone involved,” Wikander told Variety.

“EastEnders” star Michelle Collins is making the leap from acting to production, and hopes to champion “working-class voices” in her projects.

During a panel at Content London on Thursday, Collins discussed the ins and outs of making the career transition alongside Sir Lenny Henry, Banijay U.K. CEO Patrick Holland, Marta Dusseldorp, Alexandra Rapaport, Gabija Siurbyte, Calle Jansson and Ernestas Jankauskas. Collins is currently back on BBC soap “EastEnders” as Cindy Beale, who was resurrected from the dead after 25 years, but said she recently went through a tough time in her career.

As the streaming landscape continues to readjust after a turbulent few years, some platforms are riding the wave more comfortably than others. A case in point is SVOD service BritBox International, which was founded in 2017 as a joint venture by U.K. broadcasters ITV and BBC.

Available in eight markets outside the U.K. including the U.S., Canada and Australia, BritBox offers a uniquely specific output: namely, British content for international audiences. (A sister service with the same name operated solely by ITV is available in the U.K.).

In terms of genre, there’s everything from drama to soaps plus crime, comedy and what BritBox CEO Reemah Sakaan calls “British pastimes,” meaning shows about things like antiques and gardening. The streamer also boasts its own original content, such as upcoming Cary Grant biopic “Archie,” which stars Jason Isaacs (“Harry Potter”) as the Hollywood legend.

Lenny Henry has launched a new production company backed by Banijay U.K.

Titled Esmerelda, the new venture will focus on drama and comedy with an emphasis on under-represented voices.

Henry, an actor, comedian and writer, will take the position of joint co-managing director of the company alongside producer, writer and director Jon Sen.

Henry most recently starred in “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” and is soon set to launch his latest series, “Three Little Birds,” for ITV. Henry wrote the show while “Doctor Who” show runner Russell T Davies and Tiger Aspect’s Lucy Bedford exec produce.

Henry founded production company Douglas Road in 2014 and will stand down as CEO to focus on Esmerelda.

Douglas Road Productions will continue to be run by managing director Angela Ferreira.

Jon recently held a role at BBC Studios as an executive producer and development exec where he also helmed “Casualty” and “EastEnders.

Lenny Henry has launched a scripted production outfit backed by the £50M ($61M) Banijay UK Growth Fund.

Henry is helming Esmerelda Productions with former EastEnders and Casualty exec Jon Sen. It will produce drama and comedy shows with an emphasis on working with under-represented writers, cast and crew.

British comedy legend and diversity lobbyist Henry will step down as CEO of his current Banijay-backed production house Douglas Road, with MD Angela Ferreira taking the reins. The first look images from Lenny Henry’s “Three Little Birds,” executive produced by “It’s a Sin” creator Russell T Davies, have been unveiled.

The series stars Rochelle Neil (“The Nevers”), Yazmin Belo (“What Just Happened”) and Saffron Coomber (“Tracey Beaker Returns”). Designed as a celebration of immigration, community and the strength of Black womanhood, the series is inspired by the stories of Henry’s mother. Set in 1957, it follows sisters Leah (Neil) and Chantrelle (Coomber) and their virtuous, bible-loving acquaintance, Hosanna (Belo), as they board a cruise ship from Jamaica bound for a new life in Britain. Once they reach they discover that life is not smooth sailing but are determined to succeed and overcome the many obstacles of integration and build a new life in Britain.

After five years of quietly gathering steam within the international TV community, the 2023 edition of the London TV Screenings is its biggest outing yet.

Running Feb. 27 to March 3, the event features more than 25 distributors and 400 buyers. But how did the confab evolve from a set of casual screenings by rival distributors of the BBC into an event that now rivals MipTV in Cannes?

Its genesis goes back to 1976, when BBC Showcase was created from 25 European buyers gathering in Brighton’s Old Ship Hotel to watch episodes of shows such as “Fawlty Towers,” and buy such programs for audiences back in their home countries. The showcase then moved to other locations, including Edinburgh and Harrogate, before returning to Brighton, and eventually relocating to Liverpool in 2012.
