First off, setting up the story is poorly done for this movie. The writers failed to set up the story by excluding important details eg: it's not explained how Lina's Mom and rich stepdad met since they come from different socioeconomic worlds. So how did they meet?
In general, the characters need more depth, but maybe there's an exception for a cheerleading movie. The character growth is underdeveloped but central themes of love, friendship, and family kept this movie together.
The acting is good, but the scenes didn't make sense eg: How did these teenagers have their party at a club? Yet sodas were on the tables lol. The characters were over the top with Latino stereotypes from East LA. But I LOVE the dancing, LOVE the music, and Christina Millan is hot when she appears on the screen. And I love Lina's friends!
My biggest complaint is that the movie has too many Latino stereotypes throughout. Overall, this movie deserved it's current 5/10 rating because the consistent stereotypes were offensive and uncomfortable to watch.
Anyway, I hope my review was helpful :)
Peace out!
Okay, about the movie itself. The first bit, oh, cr... I was already thinking up a super-negative headline. Let me say one thing straight. Christina Milian as the lead girl, no way. Old enough to be a teacher. In the patio training scene with personal favorite Sky, there you see real youth, real delicate movements. The weak link in the whole thing is a performance that just alienated me from the get-go. It did get better. But the damage was done...
To the reviewers complaining about not understanding, well, if you're watching on DVD, switch to subtitles. One round of that, next time you won't need it. It is a pretty valid point if you're not watching on DVD, though. I would not have been able to catch what was said.
I ended up enjoying it immensely. And if The Raven compliments, well, take it as a feather in your cap.
The movie starts out hot and stays that way throughout the whole movie. There are some slow parts, but it's because it's a chick flick. Expect there to be.
Dances are amazing, so are the cheer practices that they have every now and then. Acting I would have to say is pretty okay. I didn't know that Christina,a real beautiful woman, shows lot of culture in this movie. Her acting is actually okay. Holland Roden's acting was astonishing, from being a geeky nerdy cheer girl she transforms into a confident and comfortable lady. Nikki SooHoo is hilarious. I love her character and especially her voice in this movie.
We all gotta know that in the end this movie is just made for fun. I read the other reviews on here saying "It's an insult to Allstars". This movie is fictional. It would be boring if the rules weren't broken and it was just how you normally do cheer competitions. For the guy that said "I'm not a big fan of these so-called genre movies. They are pretty predictable...girl tries to be popular-" blah blah blah....why watch it in the first place? Go watch....300. >.>
Anyways, if you're into cheer leading go watch it for fun sense and not for reality sense of cheer leading. If you're curious about the film, give it a shot. It's a chick flick, I warn you right now. It'll make you smile. If you don't care about the acting and just a fun person. GO GO GO! Everyone's got an opinion about something. I got mine ;)
I give this movie a 9 out of 10 (For me...not for you :D)
Oh and Cody Longo is HOT! Haha that's my two cents. Peace!
However, this movie went beyond formulaic. It bordered on offensive to both my eyes and ears.
The acting was sub-par and not believable in any way. The stereotypes and the accents made me cringe...and at times, made me out-right laugh.
I've never been as bored when watching a dance sequence before. It was sloppy and made me want to sleep until they where over.
This movie should be buried in that hole where they buried all those Atari E.T. games.
A waste of time, effort of everyone involved and money. People should lose their jobs over this steaming stinker.

- TriviaThe movie was filmed at locations around Malibu.
- GoofsCatalina says she's Cuban-American, but she uses words or slang that are not Cuban at all. For example, she says "SOIS familia" which is, in Spanish, the second-person plural that is only used by people from Spain. Cubans would have said "SON familia" meaning "YOU are family." She also says "Orale," which is a common interjection in Mexican slang only.
- Quotes
Catalina 'Lina' Cruz: This is Sea Lion territory. Don't ever shake your conceited Jag butt over here again!
Avery: Excuse me. Then who's supposed to show your school what a real squad looks like?
Kayla: Not this mariachi band.
Treyvonetta: [aggressively] You're so lucky I found Jesus.
Gloria: [pulls the antagonists apart] Hey, hey, hey...!
Treyvonetta: I didn't use my hands!
Gloria: All right! But you can't *fight* girls like this. They press charges.
Avery: Right. Run away.
