Trivia
In the original novel, Larry journeys out of Manhattan with Rita Blakemoor. Blakemoor is much older than Larry and addicted to pills, eventually dying of a deliberate overdose in New England. In the miniseries, Rita's character is subsumed into that of Nadine, who continues on to the finale.

Goofs
When Nick and Tom are riding their bicycles 50 miles out of Pratt, they see Ralph approaching in his pickup from the opposite direction. Yet they say they are going to the same place - Nebraska. One of the parties were clearly going in the wrong direction.

Alternate versions
The US DVD by Artisan contains a few uncensored scenes which were edited for the TV release. The back of this DVD lists the run time as 366 minutes but is actually 361 minutes. The US DVD released by Paramount is the edited TV version and runs 2 minutes shorter at 359 minutes. All other DVDs in other regions contain this edited TV version but run times vary only because of NTSC to PAL transfers, not because of any added or deleted scenes.
