I never tire of the Bollywood mills that crank out cynical, yet ultimately inspiring action dramas in which one honest cop or civilian takes on overwhelming, entrenched cultures of corruption. Dirty police; crooked politicians; gangs with the power of warlords. A righteous hero who also happens to be capable of kicking large numbers of bad-guy butts - mostly in slow motion - all but guarantees a gratifying experience.
Vijay is a bit of a stiff, compared to the John Abrahams and Ajay Devgns who flourish in these roles. But he still delivers the goods on the integrity and courage scales.
Although the ending is mostly satisfying, there's more in store for these characters, in another feature slated for release three years hence. Having been spoiled by tons of Covid-enabled bingeing, I might have waited for both to be available before starting this one had I known I was in for course interruptus. You can now time your viewing of this worthy tale to suit the strength of your own need for closure.
