Indian animator Triparna Maiti’s feature project “Mangal – The Holy Beast” has been selected for the Busan Asian Project Market. The film project spotlights the plight of captive elephants through animation.

It follows the life of Mangal, an elephant calf captured from the wild and forced into circus life, logging work, and eventually becoming a temple elephant. Through Mangal’s journey, the film explores themes of captivity, animal rights and the psyche of confined elephants.

Maiti, whose animated short “Neer” (Water) played at festivals including Anifilm and Monstra, chose this subject after encountering captive elephants in Kerala, southern India. The filmmaker experienced discomfort at the irony of how such powerful animals could be confined to human conditioning. Maiti also attended the annual Thrissur Pooram festival where elephants are front and center.

“The Masked Singer” returns for Season 11 next month, and Fox is sharing a first look at this season’s new costumes. Among the characters: “Gumball,” “Lizard,” “Ugly Sweater,” “Goldfish,” “Starfish” and “Book.”

Also new this time out: Singer/songwriter Rita Ora has joined the “Masked Singer” panel, filling in for Nicole Scherzinger (who was on stage in London performing “Sunset Boulevard” on the West End) and sitting along side returning judges Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg and Robin Thicke, as well as host Nick Cannon.

This season of “The Masked Singer,” which is back on Wednesday, March 6, at 8 p.m. Et, will feature themed episodes including “The Wizard of Oz,” in celebration of the 85th anniversary of the classic film; “Transformers” (marking the brand’s 40th anniversary) and music tributes including “Billy Joel Night” and “Queen Night.” Additional themes include “Girl Groups,” “Soundtrack of My Life,” “TV Theme Night” and “Shower Anthems.

The Masked Singer returns in about a month, and Fox is finally giving audiences some details about what to expect from Season 11.

As usual, some are more creative than others. Whoever is behind Book is in for some difficulty moving around on stage with that costume. A teaser for the upcoming episode seems to prove it with a clip of Book tripping on stage.

These are just the starting players though, so many more contestants will be revealed in time.

Sarvnik Kaur’s documentary “Against the Tide” has won the Golden Gateway Award at the Jio Mami Mumbai Film Festival. The film previously won awards at Sundance, Sydney and Seattle and best documentary at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards on the same evening as Mumbai.

Diwa Shah’s San Sebastian winner “Bahadur: The Brave” received Mumbai’s Silver Gateway Award. The festival’s Gender Sensitivity Award, for a film that challenges gender stereotypes and norms, which is decided by India’s Film Critics Guild, was won by Leesa Gazi’s “Barir Naam Shahana” (“A House Named Shahana”). The Special Jury Award went to Kanu Behl’s “Agra,” which premiered at Cannes earlier this year.

The Rashid Irani Young Critics’ Choice Award, a program created by the festival to nurture young writers on cinema, was won by Shahrukhkhan Chavada’s “Kayo Kayo Colour?” Dominic Sangma’s Locarno title “Rimdogittanga” (“Rapture”) won the Netpac Award.

New Delhi, Aug 28 (Ians) Known for her unconventional body of work, actress Kalki Koechlin, who skillfully portrayed the nuances of her character’s emotions in the movie ‘Goldfish’, said the colour of her skin limits her roles in Bollywood, and this role she knew it was cut out for her.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is presenting this stirring drama, which is directed by Pushan Kripalani and produced by Amit Saxena.
