This game walked so its sequel could run! Don't get me wrong, this is still an enjoyable game, but its sequel surpassed it in every way imaginable!
A childhood classic that introduced me to Xbox live multiplayer. Back when I first got this game, I really never played a zombie game, so this game really filled in that zombie itch I had. The story isn't anything special, but because I've played this game countless times, every character is as memorable as any video game character could be, and each level that I revisit brings back so many good memories. Killing boomers for the first time will always be one of the funniest childhood moments I had playing a video game, and don't even get me started on the damn witch. Me and my brother would constantly freak out once we heard the infamous cries seep from the dark, zombie-infested environment. Such good times. A nostalgic game that holds up, even in today's standards.
I'm just going to do a short review for this one, as though I did appreciate some of what I saw in "Left 4 Dead" it's really not the game for me.
A decade after its release, I was playing "Left 4 Dead" using backward compatibility through my Xbox One. I played through all of the first story campaign (through the town to the hospital) in single player mode and gave up when I couldn't last long enough for the helicopter to arrive on the roof. I had a couple of goes, but I'm afraid my gaming time isn't sufficient that I can afford to get stuck for an extended period of time and not make any progress. I know the game is designed to be played by four human players together, and I'm sure that if I had that option it would have been easier to progress, but I don't really enjoy online play, either co-operative or competitive.
Gunplay and level design was good. Graphically it's starting to show its age a bit but that is to be expected. I'm sure there's much to admire with "Left 4 Dead" but it's not for me.

This game is very simple and easy to pick up. A great introduction to the left 4 dead series and very funny at times
Overall the game is amazing and everyone with a steam account should buy it.

In order to survive the zombie apocalypse, you will need many items before doing so: medikits, pain pills, flashlights, molotoves, pipe bombs, gasoline, propane tanks, and guns.Without these items, you will never survive. That goes the same for the incredibly addictive game 'Left 4 Dead'. In the game, you encounter zombies, hordes, witches, hunters, smokers, and tanks. The tank that I am referring to does not involve the army. The tank is basically a giant brute who looks like he used to be an ordinary man before he injected himself with tons of steroids. In this game, surviving the zombie apocalypse is pure fun. You'll be playing for hours and hours non-stop.Surviving the apocalypse hasn't been this much fun in a long time.

- TriviaIn the original storyline there was a side element in which Francis and Zoey develop a relationship with one another. However, test audiences found their romance to be "distracting" from the main storyline and so it was ultimately cut from the final version.
- GoofsAlthough throughout the 'No Mercy' campaign you are heading for 'Mercy hospital' and can see it in many areas of the game due to the huge logo at the top of the building, when you finally reach the roof top, the 'Mercy Hospital' logo is missing during the final battle and helicopter escape.
- Crazy creditsAt the end of each campaign you get movie style credits which begin with "(number) infected were harmed in the making of this game". Unless one of the characters dies during the finale in which case "In memory of (name(s))" appears instead.
- Alternate versionsOriginal German version was heavily censored for violence to secure a "Not under 18" rating from the USK.
