Romantic Charades

Missa X, co-writing with Whitney Wright, displays her playwright credentials in this dramatically engaging play, expertly performed by a talented set of four actresses. I could easily imagine it playing on Broadway, where Albee's 3 Tall Women and a new play with Edie Falco score well with audiences.

Right down to use of stage-style entrances and exits, the 3-sex scenes opus boasts top-notch dialogue to establish the main characters of roommates Evelyn Claire (her best role to date as a New Age type into astrology and spiritualism) and Kenna James (the shy type). Add Aidra Fox as Claire's beautiful fiancee and wild card Kenzie Reeves as a cynical disruptor.

The four of them get together at a party, where Rocky insists they play charades, but the double meaning of that term, as expressed in the piece's title, comes to the fore as jealousies lead to a strong confrontation. Romantic resolution of the story is satisfying, and it's a pleasure to see talent given the opportunity to shine, rather than merely go gonzo (cf. The disappointing career evolution of the once-mighty Riley Reid).
