I'm not a critic but I am a woman who now and again want to enjoy an awesome, head over heels television show. After watching great hits on OWN like Greenleaf and Queen Sugar, I'm not impressed by the Kings. The thrills I got from these shows are not coming through with the Kings. Also, there is a similar show on ABC pulling my attention. Even with the plots of betrayal and infidelity, it's not keeping me as a fan. I'm only here until Bridegton comes back. As far as I'm concern this was a good winter show... maybe it's the writers but I'm not feeling the Kings of Napa. This is my final season.
I tuned in by accident as I was channel surfing. Then, I stopped to watch because I couldn't immediately determine what kind of show this is. Is it a soapy drama? Is it high comedy? Is it a satire? I've been watching for the last 40 minutes and I still don't know. If it's a drama, the writing is HORRENDOUS! I can't imagine Oprah would allow such terrible writing on her network, so I'm guessing this is a comedy-either straight or satire. It works better as satire.
So, having determined the show is satire, I want to applaud the inclusion of a little person as a member of the main cast. People with disabilities are frequently shut out of the entertainment industry unless they are the butt of jokes or stereotypes that make ableds feel better, (ie., inspiration porn). Furthermore, Black people with disabilities are almost never on screen at all for any reason. Therefore, even if the Kings of Napa turns out to be unforgivably horrid, I'll root for it because the show gave a disabled actor a chance in a role that doesn't revolve around his disability.
Finally, there ARE wineries owned by Black winemakers. Several of them are quite successful as well. As someone said, Google is your friend. See McBride Sisters, for example.

I am enjoying the show. It's unfortunate that because some people are unaware of Black owned Vineyards & Wineries they are saying the shows premise is unrealistic. Google is our friend. Out of 11,000 wineries in the US, the amount of Black owned vineyards and wineries in the United States are extremely low, yet they do exist! Get this, some are even in Napa, like the new series The Kings Of Napa🍷
SORRY.... I wanted to enjoy this show esp with black ppl. In power owning their own winery but the acting is so bad it leaves sour grapes in your mouth. I get that Oprah wants to add diversity to her lineup but there's has to be something better than this. There is no real acting, the storyline is redundant, and the location is off. The best thing I can say about this show is the fashion and thats questionable. I say plant a new harvest and start over maybe next time you'll get a better bottle of wine.
You require at least 150 words to be able to submit an opinion.
So let me start by saying I was hopeful for a fresh idea/show/series.
I believe the idea is on the 'verge of fresh' but, it is also my opinion that the acting is weak. I can't even identify a stand out actor in the cast. Ultimately I am bummed the shows concept isn't backed by better talent.
