Indie horror is having a renaissance these days, and "The Fetus" is a wonderful addition to it! The story begins with Alessa (Lauren LaVera from "Terrifier 2 & 3") and Chris (Julian Curtis) discover that Alessa is pregnant. Chris is less than thrilled, but Alessa is totally freaked out because she thinks her body is different and won't react normally -- and, no surprise, she is correct! She insists that they go see her father (Bill Mosely, almost unrecognizable behind a bushy beard) and so off they go...
"The Fetus" fires on almost all cylinders. It's scary, gory, gruesome, a little funny... everything you'd want from a little indie horror flick. The acting is top-notch -- Bill Mosely is, as always, wonderful and Lauren LaVera continues to be a revelation in everything she's in. It was nicely original, took some twists and turns I didn't expect, which is always so refreshing. And even for such a low budget film, the practical special effects were a hit.
If you're an indie horror fan -- and if you're not, you should be -- check out "The Fetus" when you get a chance!

The Fetus is an independent movie directed by Joe Lam and starring Lauren LaVera, Bill Moseley and Julian Curtis. I had been looking forward to watching this since I first saw the original trailer a couple months ago. My biggest concern was that it wouldn't live up to my expectations. Thankfully the Fetus met and exceeded my expectations. I loved it.
The story involves a new couple and an unplanned pregnancy. The pregnancy progresses at an unnatural pace and it quickly becomes apparent the expected baby is potentially evil. I am trying to keep this review spoiler free, so I will just say the movie deals with deception, trust, love, faith and religion, family, good and bad, pain, and of course the fear of becoming a parent.
Hats off to the impressive acting, especially the leading three actors who all deliver dramatic, compassionate, and authentic portrayals of their characters. Lauren LaVera astonished me in Terrifier 2 and 3, and brings excellent acting again in this movie. Looking forward to future movies she's in.
Also the direction and cinematography were very well done. I didn't notice how far I was in the movie until around an hour or so in and realized how smooth the movie flows.
I would definitely recommend anyone to watch this movie. Especially horror fans, but honestly the characters are relatable to anyone who has been in a relationship, had family issues, been deceived, etc. The movie is creepy, caring, off the walls at times and the best movie analogy I can describe is part Evil Dead, part Twilight Zone, and part Don't Look Now. The story is wild in some moments that remind me of Evil Dead, but it stays on course and certainly isn't boring or dull.

"From the depths of Hell, The Fetus is born"
Let's get this straight, Lauren LaVera (Alessa) is an absolute emotional powerhouse throughout 'The Fetus'.
Lauren, alongside the always fantastic Bill Moseley & Julian Curtis helps to deliver what will be one of the best independent horror movies of 2025.
With an easy to follow, and familiar in parts storyline, we follow Alessa who unexpectedly falls pregnant. Alessa and her partner head office to visit her father, Maddox (Bill Moseley) who is seemingly hiding not one but two secrets.
As the couple slowly unveil the secrets, Alessa's pregnancy continues to take a dark and gnarly turn, taking us as viewers through the current and more important backstory as to why this is not a normal pregnancy.
"The Fetus needs to be fed and if it doesn't feed, it will feed on Alessa"
The CGI use for the ever growing 'Fetus' is solid, most certainly as it grows.
The Fetus becomes a life or death battle vs Hell and the Demons trapped within.
Overall, The Fetus is a successful and well written independent horror, taking one of the genres fastest rising starts with Lauren LaVera and pairing her with an icon in Bill Moseley.
If you are a fan of Independent Horror and are following the career path of Lauren LaVera as I am then this movie is a must.
Please support The Fetus as it hits select theatres across the states.
It is an extremely enjoyable ride and I'm excited for what is next, not just for the producers but for the cast and of course, 'The Fetus'
8/10.
