It was interesting. It took a bit to get past the vulgarity/crudeness sometime revulsion of many of the images/comments that the characters made BUT it was interesting. It had really good character development and actually a pretty fresh plot. A couple of times I wanted to change the channel or do something else but am very glad I didn't.
The location was unusual as was the sets it employed. The sound contributed a lot. It was pretty high quality which told me almost immediately it was NOT soft porn but perhaps something else. I am not a huge fan of rap/hip hop type music but this added to this movie and did not overshadow it. A Wagner classical death march at one point made me truly pay attention as the classical was not expected.
It does remind me a tiny bit of "Bob and Carol, Ted and Alice..." etc but it was in some ways a very different movie. If this is the first effort by the producer/actors/director I would try to make some more movies for sure! I don't think it had a huge budget but it really did not matter. They were 20/30 somethings who had decided for better or worse to try something new. Another note, the characters didn't look like cookie cutter plastic surgery models. They were quite real. I think each actor especially the women should continue acting.
When I was the title on a premium channel I thought at first it was soft porn because of the time slot but it is not even resembling that. The sound track was actually quite good! It was at moments repulsive almost always interesting and has a good deal of action/interaction going on. Sex surprisingly was not the main focus. There was a certain amount of drugs in this movie but it was a good addition to the story. It made it more believable.
This wasn't my favorite movie I have ever watched but I liked the movie enough to watch it again. As an avid movie viewer I am not easy to please and am often very bored. I think you should give it a try and watch it!
This movie reminded me of "The Anniversary," while also making me laugh out loud throughout. Awesome. Hope these guys get another shot or this movie gets the recognition it deserves. Hollywood ad men just ruin stuff cause they think everyone outside of LA and NY are retarded.
I guess the closest movie I could compare this to is Y.P.F. It won't appeal to everyone, but if you liked that movie, then you might like this one. It's funny in places and some of the group dynamics are interesting, but fully three-quarters of the characters are annoying and unlikeable. The story doesn't really go anywhere, and the ending was pretty abrupt. I guess it's sort of appropriate that the messy situation of the plot would be reflected in the movie as a whole, but All-American is really just too undercooked and direction-less for me to recommend. Some of the pieces were here for a good movie, but there's no coherent whole.
This is one of the most original, intelligent, funniest movies ever. It really shows how unrealistic our societies porno-saturated homophobic expectations of sex are. It'll make you extremely uncomfortable if you're a prude though.
I'm amazed I had never even heard of this, it must have been some huge distribution/advertisement mistake. It's a very well made movie. This is going into my collection of favorites right along with the works of Scorsese and Kubrick. This really is a masterpiece in it's own unique/raunchy/hilarious way.
Truth be told, I figured that I would be in for a comedy here, given the movie's title, cover and synopsis. But writer Ted Beck delivered a script that was rather devoid of comedy elements. It was more of a cringeworthy drama, given the dialogue, the situation, the characters and the general awkwardness of the entire premise of the movie. So it was a bit of a disappointment to sit down and watch "All American Orgy", as I was expecting to be brought to laughs. That doesn't mean that "All American Orgy" was a bad movie, it was just something very different than what I was expecting.
I was not familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list. And that is actually something that I do enjoy in a movie whenever I watch a movie. The acting performances in the movie were actually fair.
Having sat through the movie again now in 2025, I can see why I totally forgot about the movie the first time around.
My rating of director Andrew Drazek's 2009 movie "All American Orgy" lands on a very generous four out of ten stars.
