Exclusive: Promised Land creator Matt Lopez has joined CBS’ recently picked up drama series Sheriff Country as executive producer and showrunner. The Fire Country spinoff, headlined by Morena Baccarin, is slated to debut during the 2025-26 season, with a writers room expected to open in late summer.
Sheriff Country was introduced when Baccarin guest starred in an April episode of the mothership series. Like the Fire Country pilot, the planted spinoff was written by Joan Rater and Tony Phelan from a story the duo co-wrote with series’ star Max Thieriot, whose real-life experiences inspired Fire Country. (Thieriot also directed the backdoor pilot episode.)
The offshoot also is following Fire Country‘s leadership pattern. While Grey’s Anatomy alums Rater and Phelan are executive producers and a writers room fixtures on the mothership series, Tia Napolitano was brought in as day-to-day showrunner. Lopez is taking on the duties for Sheriff Country. He...

Moving into acting during the start of the ‘90s, Will Smith has built himself to be one of the most bankable faces in Hollywood. Grossing over $9.3 billion globally, his movies have always struck a chord with the audience. Famed for his versatility in roles ranging from sci-fi to action-comedy with the likes of Men In Black and Bad Boys being his most celebrated outings, he has, though, contributed much more poignantly to cinema.

A father of three, Smith has, at times, settled into his real-life shoes to resonate to the core with anyone watching. Notably, his acting stints alongside his son, Jaden Smith as his co-star, have gone on to capture riveting moments of fatherhood quite poignantly. As such, one movie from 2006 featuring the duo not only received widespread acclaim but also made itself synonymous as...

Adria Arjona says she was destined for pop stardom. She dreamed of becoming the next Beyoncé or Britney Spears as she crisscrossed the Americas with her father, the Guatemalan singer Ricardo Arjona, watching him serenade audiences with Latin pop ballads. Her home became a hotel room. She jetted between tour dates and stood backstage cheering him on. There was only one thing missing from her supersized expectations:
“I can’t sing,” Arjona says. “So, that was not in the books for me.”
Instead, Arjona has paved her own path in Hollywood.

Exclusive: Director Cameron Van Hoy has entered production on The Prince, a new feature drama penned by Pulitzer Prize winner and Oscar nominee David Mamet. Scott Haze (Old Henry) leads a starry ensemble that also includes Nicolas Cage (Pig), J.K. Simmons (Whiplash), Giancarlo Esposito (Parish) and Andy Garcia (Ocean’s Eleven).
The Prince chronicles an addict’s tumultuous odyssey through the high-stakes world of power, pleasure, and pain on a transformative journey toward recovery.
While unconfirmed, we’re told by multiple sources close to the project that the lead character Parker, played by Haze, is inspired at least in part by Hunter Biden, son of U.S. President Joe Biden, whose abuse of drugs and alcohol is well documented — including in his 2021 memoir Beautiful Things — and who was found guilty Tuesday in Delaware of three felony counts related to the purchase of a gun in 2018.

The tech giant’s streaming service has ordered El Gato, based on the comic El Gato Negro by Richard Dominguez. Boneta (Luis Miguel: The Series, the 2022 Father of the Bride) will play the title character in the thriller, a man who finds himself at the center of a vast conspiracy when he discovers his father was a 1970s vigilante, “El Gato.”
The project was initially set up at Apple TV+ more than four years ago, with Boneta attached. At the time, Robert Rodriguez was in line to direct and executive produce, but he’s no longer involved. El Gato Negro comes from Amazon MGM Studios — MGM was behind the show before Amazon acquired it — and creator Eric Carrasco (Foundation, Supergirl, Netflix’s upcoming Twilight of the Gods), who will executive produce and...

Can Hulu please give us a premiere date for Only Murders in the Building Season 3?
We have to imagine it will be back sooner rather than later, but the latest wave of filming photos makes us want to watch all of next season's episodes right about now.
Steve Martin shared a photo on Twitter Tuesday, and if he planned to get the internet talking, it was a resounding success.
The 77-year-old actor shared a photo from behind the scenes of the Hulu juggernaut.
In the photo, Martin wears a tuxedo as he stands alongside his costar, Selena Gomez, who was dressed as a bride.
"Guess what just happened!" Martin captioned the snap.
Understandably, the photo drew comparisons to Martin's hit 1991 movie, Father of the Bride.
"The neighbor of the bride," a fan joked.
Martin also shared a photo of his costar, Martin Short, standing beside Selena.

There's finally some good news for the residents of the Arconia after all. The famous upper-scale New York City residence in Hulu's "Only Murders in the Building" is home to several affluent New Yorkers who have grown accustomed to only murders taking place in their building ... but they will finally have something good to celebrate — a wedding! Then again, judging from the show's past seasons, we won't be surprised if there's a murder within the wedding instead.
Steve Martin, who portrays the always-hilarious Charles-Haden Savage; a semi-retired actor and the former star of a renowned 1990s crime drama, in the series, is teasing the upcoming season — and it looks like fun.

The cast of Only Murders in the Building has been teasing the upcoming third season with some behind-the-scenes snaps, including Selena Gomez decked out in a wedding dress. On Tuesday, March 21, a tuxedo-wearing Steve Martin shared a photo on Twitter where he posed with his co-star Gomez, who wore a white lace gown and matching veil. “Guess what just happened!” he captioned the pic. Many fans saw the photo as an homage to Martin’s 1991 film Father of the Bride, in which he plays George Banks, whose daughter returns from a trip aboard and announces she is engaged. The movie also stars fellow Only Murders cast member Martin Short as the eccentric European wedding coordinator Franck Eggelhoffer. Steve Martin has sent fans down memory lane after posting a photo with his Only Murders in the Building co-star, Selena Gomez.
The actor and comedian shared an image of himself and Gomez standing next to each other, with Martin in a suit and Gomez wearing a white wedding dress.
“Look what just happened!” Martin captured the post on Tuesday (21 March).
With the picture presumably taken on set, fans are assuming that their outfits hint at a forthcoming storyline in their TV show, in which they play neighbours who join forces to solve a murder in their apartment building.
However, many others have drawn a link between the image and one of Martin’s most popular projects, Father of the Bride.

Even if you’ve signed up for every streaming service out there, it can feel monumental when a title moves from one to another. In April, Netflix mainstay “New Girl” moves to Hulu; still streaming, but not where fans are used to finding it — like rearranging the furniture in your apartment and waking up surprised every day that the couch is over there now.
But what’s important is that “New Girl” lives on, now joining Hulu’s own TV and movie library and originals from Freeform, FX, National Geographic, and more. Later in the month, Leila Gerstein’s “Saint X” — based on the novel by Alexis Schaitkin — premieres with three episodes, recounting the story of a young girl found dead during a family vacation and the sister piecing it together years later. Alycia Debnam-Carey, Josh Bonzie, West Duchovny, Jayden Elijah, Bre Francis, Kenlee Anaya Townsend, Betsy Brandt, and Michael Park star.

After Netflix plugged the plug on Nancy Meyers’ expensive romantic-comedy movie earlier this week, it seems that Warner Bros may come to the rescue.
Nancy Meyers had spent over a year developing Paris Paramount for Netflix, but she and the streaming service clashed over the budget. Nancy Meyers wanted at least $150 million, which would have made it one of the most expensive romantic comedies of all time, but Netflix wouldn’t budge past $130 million. It was reported just last week that Scarlett Johansson, Penélope Cruz, Michael Fassbender and Owen Wilson were circling roles in the movie, and it was said that at least $80 million of that budget would have gone to the talent. Sources told THR that Warner Bros was “attracted to the idea of a ready-made hot project with an A-list cast and possible summer start date.“

The Nancy Meyers movie that recently fell apart at Netflix over budget issues may be revived at Warner Bros.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Warners, attracted to the idea of a ready-made hot project with an A-list cast and possible summer start date, may be stepping in to pick it up. Netflix has scrapped another exciting project — this time, from renowned filmmaker Nancy Meyers.
Meyers was set to collaborate with the streamer for her newest big-budgeted romantic comedy "Paris Paramount," but Netflix has pulled the plug on the movie (via The Wrap). The writer-director has helmed several critically acclaimed romantic comedies through the decades, including "Father of the Bride," "It's Complicated," "The Holiday," and "The Parent Trap." Her last project was the 2015 comedy-drama "The Intern," starring actors Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway.
"Paris Paramount" is said to have been a working title for the project. The film was in negotiation for a $150 million budget, which would make it one of the most expensive romcoms to date. Unfortunately, despite its impressive star cast, the streamer has decided not to proceed with the film.

Netflix has “axed” a new Nancy Meyers romantic comedy following a dispute with the director.
The filmmaker has lined up her next project, which will be her first feature film since The Intern in 2015.
Titled Paris Paramount, the comedy, announced in April 2022, follows a filmmaking duo who reunite on set after a failed romance years before.
Paris Paramount is eyeing an A-list cast, including Scarlett Johansson and Owen Wilson alongside Penélope Cruz and Michael Fassbender.
According to Deadline, it’s this cast that may have contributed to Netflix canning the project, as Meyers is said to have requested a higher budget to fulfill an $80m (£65.8m) payment to the main cast members.
The film was originally budgeted at $130m (£106.9m), which is $100m (£82.2m) more than The Intern.

We’ll have to wait a little longer for the next movie from Nancy Meyers as Netflix has pulled the plug on what was to be a star-studded romantic comedy.
The reason for Netflix choosing to axe the project comes down to the budget. Nancy Meyers was wanting at least $150 million dollars, which would have made it one of the most expensive romantic comedies of all time, but Netflix wouldn’t budge past $130 million. That’s still an awfully high budget for a movie of this type, but Meyers typically employs an all-star cast who demand big salaries. It was reported just last week that Scarlett Johansson, Penélope Cruz, Michael Fassbender and Owen Wilson were circling roles in the movie.

Update [Tuesday March 14, 11:14 p.m.]: Moviegoers agonizing over the breakdown of Nancy Meyers’ latest film (one that was meant to bring her out of retirement), don’t cry into your cashmere just yet. News hit earlier on Tuesday that Netflix was no longer developing the new rom-com from the iconic director, but sources with knowledge of the project said that filmmakers are looking into other options to get it to screen. The untitled film was reported to star Scarlett Johansson, Penélope Cruz, Owen Wilson and Michael Fassbender. Pending talent availability, the project will be shopped to prospective buyers as a package, one source added. Representatives for Meyers did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Netflix is shutting down its Nancy Meyers movie, the star-studded romantic comedy that was expected to be her first directing vehicle in nearly a decade.
According to sources, Netflix and Meyers could not come to an agreement on the budget. Meyers is said to have asked for a budget of at least $150 million, but the studio did not want to go over $130 million. It was a steep price tag for a genre that is usually more in the midbudget range and one that could have made it the most expensive romantic comedy of all time. Meyers, who last directed the 2015 Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro feature The Intern, has commanded budgets on the higher end for the genre and is known for her work with big stars such as Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep. She is also known for her Architectural Digest-worthy production design.

Netflix has pulled the plug on Nancy Meyers’ $130 million ensemble comedy “Paris Paramount,” The Wrap has learned.
Scarlett Johansson, Penélope Cruz, Michael Fassbender and Owen Wilson were previously in talks for roles in the film which centered on an above-the-line filmmaking duo who reunite on set after falling in and out of love with one another.
“Paris Paramount” would have been Meyers’ return to the director’s chair since helming 2015’s “The Intern,” which starred Robert DeNiro and Anne Hathaway.

The filmmaker behind films like What Women Want, The Intern, and Something’s Gotta Give, Nancy Meyers, is assembling an A-list cast for her next movie. According to reports, Scarlett Johansson, Owen Wilson, Penelope Cruz, and Michael Fassbender could join Meyers’ next feature-length project insiders refer to as Paris Paramount.
We hear Johansson is circling the lead role, with sources saying the story revolves around a talented young writer/director who falls head over heels for a producer. After taking the entertainment industry by storm to do several successful projects, the couple ends their union romantically and professionally. Later, the duo finds themselves working alongside one another when a unique project crosses their path, forcing them back into an old routine plagued with complications and overbearing Hollywood personalities.
The plot shares similarities with Meyers’ Hollywood experience and her longtime romantic and professional relationship with Charles Shyer, another of Tinseltown’s writer-director-producer combos.

Scarlett Johansson is circling the lead role in Meyers’ upcoming feature for Netflix, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter, with Penélope Cruz, Owen Wilson and Michael Fassbender also eying the project.

The Mash sequel series very nearly cast a comic legend - who was pushed out of the role for being "Too funny." Mash may have taken a season or two to find its footing - and an audience - but it ended its run as a classic. In fact, Mash's finale is the most-watched episode of scripted television in history, which is a record that's now practically impossible to beat. Given its critical and ratings success, it makes all the sense in the world CBS wanted to prolong its life a little further.
There had technically already been a Mash spinoff with medical drama Trapper John, MD, following the titular character in his role as Chief of Surgery at a San Francisco hospital. The French Alps in VistaVision and Technicolor really sell this inspirational thriller. Spencer Tracy stars is the utterly ethical mountaineer, and young Robert Wagner his venal, verminous, just plain no damn good younger brother. Make that Much younger. Edward Dmytryk directs for big dimensions and strong emotions, and Paramount’s remaster makes the special effects of the mountain climb look good again. It’s a morality tale pitched at grade school level, and one of Tracy’s better late-career pictures. With Anna Kashfi as a plane crash victim deserving of rescue, and William Demarest as a French priest with a Preston Sturges accent.

From Gunpowder Milkshake to Ballerina Overdrive, Lena Headey sure does know how to pick projects with awesome titles. Deadline just announced the latter action-thriller today, which also features Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish), Isabela Merced (Father of the Bride), Lana Condor (Moonshot), Millicent Simmonds (A Quiet Place) and Iris Apatow (The Bubble).
David Leitch is producing Ballerina Overdrive, which oddly enough seems to have nothing to do with Ballerina, the upcoming John Wick spinoff.
In Ballerina Overdrive, “A troupe of ballerinas find themselves fighting for survival as they attempt to escape from a remote inn after their bus breaks down on the way to a competition.”
The film is said to feature “dance-based action choreography,” and it’s being launched at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin by Vincent Maraval and Kim Fox’s The Veterans for international and CAA Media Finance for domestic.

At Midnight is a bi-cultural love story from Paramount+ with heart, humor, and sweeping romance. The film stars Diego Boneta as Alejandro and Monica Barbaro as Sophie Wilder, who meet when Wilder's work as an actress on a superhero franchise brings her to a boutique beachfront hotel managed by Alejandro. Directed by Jonah Feingold and boasting a screenplay written by Feingold, Maria Hinojos, and Giovanni Porta, At Midnight's relatable story and use of Mexico as a character in its protagonists' budding relationship sets it apart from other romantic comedies while displaying all the timeless hallmarks of the genre.
While much of what makes At Midnight such an enjoyable and re-watchable romantic comedy is the chemistry between the film's lead actors, Diego Boneta's contributions extend beyond his performance as an actor. Boneta also produced the film, helping to both get it off the ground and shape it into what it eventually became.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is talking about how Dolly Parton was a producer on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
During a visit to The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Gellar was asked about Parton being an uncredited producer on the show she starred in for seven seasons.
“Yes, little known fact, the legend Dolly Parton was a producer,” she said on the NBC late-night show. “We never saw her [but] we’d get Christmas gifts in the beginning that would have our name, and I would think, ‘She doesn’t even know who I am.’ And then one day, someone asked her about it, and she complimented the show and my performance. I was like, ‘Oh, I can die now. Dolly Parton knows who I am and thinks I’m good.'”
Sandollar Productions, which Parton started with her then-business partner Sandy Gallin, was behind the supernatural drama, alongside Mutant Enemy Productions and 20th Century Fox Television.

When Kenya Barris and Jonah Hill came together to write a comedy about a Black woman and Jewish man who fall in love, decide to marry, and suddenly find their parents either objecting to their proposed union or making it really weird, it was impossible to not view the project as a riff on, or an outright remake of Stanley Kramer's "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner." Considering that Kramer's film has aged like a Kroger cheese plate in the sun, and the 2005 remake, despite being a modest box-office success, is only referenced nowadays when people lament that Kramer's film ever existed, a smart director would likely, aggressively deny any influence or association.
Still, watch the movie: if "You People" isn't a post-Obama spin on Kramer's film, what exactly is it? Barris is happy you asked. He had another Hollywood film on his mind, one that was actually good, and...

A beloved children's literature classic is getting another adaptation, less than a decade since Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures gave the title the feature treatment with Jennifer Garner, Steve Carell, and Ed Oxenbould. Eva Longoria and George Lopez are set to star in the Latino-centric “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” a new Disney+ adaptation of Judith Viorst’s bestselling children’s book, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
Marvin Lemus, the co-creator and showrunner of “Gentefied,” is set to direct the project. “Father of the Bride’s” Matt Lopez wrote the script. Production on the Disney+ project is eyeing a spring start date in New Mexico.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the news, the film “follows a Mexican-American family who have recently lost their connection to each other and their roots, as they embark on an epic road trip that immediately goes hilariously wrong.”

This Star Wars: Andor article contains spoilers.
Andor takes Star Wars in a completely new direction than we’ve ever seen before. Cassian’s origin story opens not with talk of Jedi and Sith, or a civil war between the Empire and the Rebellion, but with a common crook who’s down on his luck and desperate. The opening minutes that play like a neo-noir crime thriller straight out of Blade Runner soon give way to a very grounded story about the folks you don’t normally see in a Star Wars movie, including the blue collar workers who keep the wheels turning on the Empire’s corporate interests. It’s on planets like Ferrix, Morlana One, and Kenari that we meet a whole new cast of characters, the people who shape Cassian’s past and help him become who he needs to be in Rogue One.
