Intense psychological drama with a narcissistic sociopath at its center, lying, manipulating, and gaslighting everyone else for one singular selfish purpose. I have been in a relationship with someone exactly like this, so maybe the negative reviews are from people who have either been lucky not to know that this character is believable or see something of themselves in this psycho.
I have to write 195 more characters without giving anything away, Plenty of twists and turns that I didn't expect, and I'm usually the one to predict even the most unpredictable of plots, so I would recommend this short series.

The reviewers who struggled to warm to Jack and Jen have no idea how clinically wired Narcissists are.
Jack's control methods, gaslighting, abuse of Tasha are accurate. His acting portrayed how calibrated they are and how they use their prey for supply. Supply of whatever they need. They are brutal and most are psychopaths.
If they are revealed they often turn to violence, withhold food, freedom etc and snap. Snap meaning ,if their ego is no longer massaged they go into blind rage ,murder and/or injuring the innocent.
The weaknesses are in editing and mismatching music scores. The theme of Narcissism is accurate and informative. Jack uses sex and mental trickery and gifts. Textbook.

... for me, there are two productions to date that exemplify the top notch acting ability of Celine Bunkens.. 'Showtrial' and 'The Ex-Wife'... she's just got that camera-grabbing-gaze.. and when she's on-screen she-dominates... this series is short at only four episodes, be sure to give yourself opportunity of time, so all episodes can be watched in a single viewing
... storyline follows the genre, and is well produced-directed-scored... it is Celine Bunkens show from start to ending, with exemplary turns from all-other-supporting-actors... ending gave a slight hint there could be more coming in the future, sure hope so... it's really one of the best mini-series of '22.. (and-hopefully '23)

Spent most of my time muttering "nobody talks/acts like that" or "nobody would ever do that" script is terrible to the point I can only imagine the writer has never actually dealt with real people and just 'imagines' them to be like this. Characters seem to go from happy to insane with motivations that would make most people just be annoyed or curious and I had to wonder if I missed scenes or even a whole episode.
The Incredible Hulk being real is more believable than the characters in this program, gave up mid way through episode 3 and it's 4 episodes, it wasn't even worth caring about how this would end or what the "twist would be" because the people were acting like puppets doing things no one would ever do and it's hard to care about them.
I honestly can't get over how badly written these characters were, some of the people like this just don't exist apart from perhaps in a mills and boom book.

They should have left this as one season. The second season was utterly abysmal. It was so over the top and unnecessary. The first season was believable but the second was ridiculous. They tried way too hard to fill every episode with drama and action that it became silly and it almost became unwatchable. It was bad enough from the get go when the character of Jen had a different actress and personality but it just got worse as it went on. I'd have given the first season an 8 but sadly the second season tried too hard to be something it wasn't and went down an awful tacky spiral and has sadly dragged the overall score down. Watch the first season but pretend there isn't a second and leave it there.
