The Inheritance

This movie interweaves footage of political activists, writers, and poets in Philadelphia, most notably the history of the MOVE organization and John Africa, with a very loose plot about a young man trying to learn more about his grandmother's beliefs. I don't know that the story/plot always works, as it is very simple and there isn't much there, but I thought the filmmaking was cool and I loved learning more about these artists and political figures whom I already had an affinity towards. Overall, I give the filmmakers credit for their unique vision and very interesting take on the material!

DVD lacked subtitles for the elderly, disabled, hearing impaired, and ESL viewers. Disrespectful & cheap on the part of the producers especially when audio & enunciation is poor.

Members of MOVE (read wiki to get an idea of this organizations beliefs), in late '70s, early '80s Philadelphia, have violent encounters with police. This doc gives African-American views of those events from some survivors, descendants; and interested individuals.

At times very philosophical & other times personal beliefs & other times vintage video. Mostly screen time is speaking against a blank background or when in a group, around a table.
