    Insipid Music, No Imagination

The idea may have been a good one, but the execution of that idea couldn't have been much worse. The basic idea was to combine a silent film classic with modern rock music. But then this has been done before with Lang's Metropolis, so the idea was nothing new. But this time they have added some Tim Rice-style silly lyrics, and generally unimaginative rock 'tunes' a la Phantom-of-the-Opera, except the 'tunes' are even worse than Webber's, if that's possible. Add to this some generally poor 'singing' and some ridiculously simple choreography (well, the lead is singer is a fat, ugly creep after all), and you come up with a very dull, silly 'show'. Yes, some of the 'tunes' aren't all that bad, but generally they are just 4 bars of the same 'motif' repeated ad nauseum. All in all, this was totally lacking in imagination, and I find it very hard to believe the people behind Cirque du Soleil were in any way involved. In the end, I'm sure it will make lots of money as this is the sort of tripe people go for these days.
