    Interesting old-time specialist auto craftsmen

Among the best everyday car restoration shows on the planet, you meet the seller, follow through with the Drew's' bargaining and Paul's plan to sort out and sell the finished vehicle. Along the way you meet some of the UK's best specialist repairers, often operating from backyard sheds. Initially some purchases look like money pits but judicious use of contacts around Britain and personal knowhow see a profit realised, often due to putting the vehicles on display at club meetings. The buyer in turn is shown inspecting the vehicle and haggling before settlement is reached. Superlative photography and editing make each show a joy to watch.

    MGA Tragedy

Just watched the MGA episode. The man goes to the maker of genuine rally seats for old MGs and other British sports cars. He goes and orders a stupid tartan covering which a) would be laughed out of any classic car competition paddock and b) ignores the fact that those products have remained unchanged since the days when they were the gun thing to have.

Then the equally ridiculous graphics. Thank God they were not used.

Why, oh why did they not just model the car on the brilliant Sebring coupes of the day? I could turn a stock MGA coupe into a gorgeous top-selling Sebring coupe replica for half what these two spent on that thing and got more money for a far more desirable and authentic car. Dunlop alloy racing knock-ons, Sebring replica front and rear aprons instead of the chrome bumpers, plain leather replica racing seats, a big racing tank in the boot with a large alloy flip-up filler poking out of the bootlid. And all for less than the man paid for that travesty.

For somebody who is alleged to have a sense of style and knowledge of classics he's an absolute bunny when it comes to this stuff. He made that beautiful little MG T series end up looking like a Morris 8 tourer. What a joke.

PLEASE LISTEN TO PAUL and stay out of critical decisions man.

    Not bad for petrol heads

The premise is buy an old car, restore and sell for a profit, standard stuff.

Paul deserves a medal putting up with Pritchard, no idea what goes on behind the scenes. The funniest part is where Pritchard goes to a specialist retrimmer for and then gets quoted a ridiculous amount, ( £16000 to retrim the cloth interior of a 2 seater lotus !!) then he says, yes no problem, without thinking he has been stitched up. The specialists must be rubbing their hands with glee when he turns up. As with most car restorations, you never get your money back, but its entertaining to watch the work. It's always a bit light on the actual work that goes on so I imagine the cars still be need endless spending into the future. I am sure I saw the oil burning MGC puffing out smoke on the road test, that despite shiny bodywork, this suggests more bills.

    LOOK BEHIND THE SCENES

The show looks good with nice cars being restored each episode. When i buy a car i do an online check on the mot history. As i watch each episode i do an mot check on these vehicles. Some of the comeback on the mots after the workshop have had their hands on the car is bad. And when you look up Landspeed garage where the work is carried out the reviews are shocking. It makes nice tv but look behind the scenes for the truth. There endeth the lesson.
