    Serial butchers

Resuming a subject treated by American movies such as "the farm" (2018) and the hilarious " motel hell " (1980) "Barbaque" (French slang for meat) applies it to the current mode of the veggies/vegans vs meat gastronomy.

Well ,you may be,like me ,a veggie ,and appreciate this exciting farce ,provided you have a good sense of (black,of course!) humor ! The poor butchers have their store attacked by a vegetarian : they take vengeance on him by run him over.... And the best way to get rid of a dead body , it's to eat it; so they sell him as "pork from Iran " and the customers find it so delicious that they ask for more. So they begin to hunt for raw material.

There are scenes which will make you heartily laugh:the meal with the son-in-law and his reproach (a nightmare !) ; the slap at the factory farming meat sold in the large store of the couple's so called friends; the lectures by an eminent professor on the awful bloody killers -the last one is a stroke of genius .

Apart from the obligatory song in English (here Steppenwolf's "born to be wild" ) ,because of the dearth of chansons françaises, "la barbaque" takes us far away from the feel good contemporary French comedy ,off the beaten track ,which is fine with me ;a last piece of advice:don't watch it when you're having dinner ,veggie or not.

    Delightful dark comedy

This darkly humorous comedy is a great success. It tells the story of a butcher couple who are on the verge of breaking up, but whose relationship is saved when they are confronted with a new meat that they will serve to their customers who love it. Fabrice Eboué dares a lot in this politically incorrect film where culinary beliefs are confronted with other beliefs. The film is rich in showing terrorism, sectarianism, beliefs, racism, in different forms, and always in a disrespectful way. It is good to see that it is possible to shake up the politically correct way of thinking. The film also makes fun of the fascination that serial killers provoke.

Fabrice Eboué is both an excellent actor and an excellent director. And finally, by his treatment of the various characters, manages to make this couple sympathetic. As well as the character of the policeman who investigates, while eating all the time! It is not subtle, but the subject does not call for subtlety. And it's funny and horrible, amusing and jubilant, and horrible in the gory sense of the term, even if Fabrice Eboué avoids bloodshed and is more in the suggestion (which does not harm the film at all, on the contrary). A film that is good for its directness and its extremity. Because Fabrice Eboué goes to the end of his subject and the end of his characters.

The film contains its moments of anthology, including the montage-sequence of the animal report, for example, or the first meeting during a meal of the boyfriend of the couple's daughter.

The best comedy of the year

I've watched it at MOTEL X Film Festival and I felt surprised about this French movie.

The plot would be so disturbing if was just a serious drama. Some Like It Rare knows how to transform the disturbing and gruesome elements in comedy.

I've never laughed so much in a movie theater like when I was watching this movie. It's full of funny scenes and the humour always work... Except if you don't like dark humour, because in that case, Some Like it Rare isn't for you.

The only problem is the ending. It finishes too fast. I think would be so much better if they added a couple of scenes before the ending.

    Bold, Unexpected, and Darkly Funny

The plot is bizarre and unexpected-even if you've read the synopsis, you'll still find yourself thinking, "They did not just do that". And yet, somehow, it all works. While there are gory moments, they're not overdone or repetitive, so I'm not entirely convinced this qualifies as horror. In fact, what might shock viewers more are the borderline jokes and body-related humour, which fit the premise perfectly but are definitely not for all audiences.

There's a good dose of dark comedy: brace yourself for the "hunting" scenes, which are beautifully shot and absolutely hilarious. The story, despite its absurd twists, manages to feel disturbingly believable. It reminded me of Albert Dupontel's early films (Bernie and Le Créateur), where we effectively follow the perspective of a serial killer through a comedy plot.

Last but not least, the acting is stellar. Fabrice Eboué is pitch-perfect, and Marina Foïs proves yet again why she's one of the best, delivering a flawless performance even in such a daring role.

If you're in the mood for something wild and unconventional, this one will surprise you in the best way.

    Dark comedy done right

This film has all of the best elements for an amazing dark comedy and puts them together spectacularly. It's truly an excellent script executed flawlessly by the actors. From the gangster hip hop playing during killing scenes to the initial nervous trepidation of the protagonist developing into confidence, it takes you on a laugh-filled journey.

I think a lot of the negative reviews may be vegans taking it too seriously, but this is a brilliant parody that deserves a much higher rating. The actors were cast so well, and really helped to enhance the comedy. The brilliant script is probably the best part of this film. Clever and subtle, without being preachy. One of the best dark comedies I've seen in ages.

The first draft of the script was written from the vegan point of view, but the writer/director felt it would be easier to connect to the characters is they were from the non-vegan majority of the population.
