A pilot that will intrigue you to the edge!

I really liked the pilot of SOA. The show was suggested to me by a friend so i thought that i would take a look at the first episode. I was very impressed! Within the first 10 minutes of the show you see the introduction of the main characters, a bit of comedy and an epic explosion. I was hooked immediately! Then, of course, throughout the rest of the show you get to meet the rest of the characters and learn their place in the show and their back stories which made me get a hunger for more of them. My favourite scene is the ending scene. It shows you the the darker side to the sons that you have come to expect and would love to see more of. I would recommend this show to anyone who enjoys action, comedy, drama , a touch of dark comedy and to anyone who enjoys Harley bikes!

Probably the best pilot and/or show I've ever seen!

This pilot is set up like a movie. Each scene is perfectly set to specific music to really help make you feel what the characters are going through. It's a dark comedy but you end up falling for these people pretty quick and therefore can't wait to keep watching. Honest Kurt Sutter is a genius and doesn't get the credit he deserves. They never should've fired him from Mayans.

You Are In For A Ride

I wasn't sure about this because I tend to find overly graphic violence to be uninteresting and depressing. I was surprised at how much actually enjoyed this and couldn't wait to watch the next episode. The characters are unpredictable, funny human and dangerous all at the same time. Katie Sagal was the biggest surprise. Her portrayal of Gemma Teller-Morrow is phenomenal. Television shows that keep you wanting more are few and far between anymore.

"Tellers do not die easy." "No, we just die bloody."

This debut episode for this vivid series about an outlaw biker gang (otherwise known as "SAMCRO") drops us into a harsh, violent world, fully formed. Charlie Hunnam is "Jax", young vice-president of the club, Katey Sagal (in a tour de force dramatic performance) is his mom, and Ron Perlman his stepfather and president of the club. Jax learns that his trashy junkie ex-wife (Drea de Matteo, in an intense guest star turn) took drugs while pregnant with his kid, and now the poor child's born 10 weeks premature, with severe medical defects to boot. The other main story thread has a Mexican gang, the Mayans, stealing the Sons' stash of weaponry, and the moves that they make to get even.

The show benefits from a talented ensemble (including such top character actors as Mark Boone Junior, Kim Coates, Tommy Flanagan (a real scene-stealer, this guy), and Johnny Lewis. The characters are well-written and colorful, and the violence is no nastier than it really needs to be; after all, this is a lawless world that these characters inhabit.

I was especially impressed with Sagal, whose character Gemma lets Wendy (de Matteo) know in no uncertain terms how worthless she thinks she is, and how she will absolutely NOT be welcome in her new sons' life.

As a bonus, the script can be pretty funny at times. All in all, I will look forward to continuing with this series.

    Eight out of 10.

    Stay away, its awful

Watched this for the first time today, the pilot episode on Netflix. I am not feeling this at all. The acting is atrocious. The story telling childish and transparent. I have no idea how this has a rating of 8.7. An 8.7 rating is usually indicative of better programming. But I suppose the voters who liked it were the ones giving it that rating. The acting is bland, monosyllabic and just plain bad. And there's 7 seasons of this. Ron Perlman is Ron Perlman; Meh. Charlie Hannum is not. Katy Sagal was a stiff Peg. There just isn't really all of that that I can give a good review on. It really is astounding that this got the high rating that it did, I suppose bikers loved it.

    • Trivia
Jax (Charlie Hunnam) is always seen wearing white Nike Air Force 1 sneakers throughout the entire series, which is a very notable part of his look. However, in the pilot, he is seen wearing black Adidas, low-top sneakers.
    • Goofs
When Abel is having surgery, the heart monitor shows a rhythm called asystole. This means there is no electrical activity in the heart (assuming the ECG leads are connected to the patient). This rhythm is not considered to be a shockable rhythm, therefore the use of the paddles is inappropriate.
    • Quotes

Gemma Teller Morrow: Looks like the boy might actually see his first birthday.

Wendy Teller: He made it? Oh Abel, thank God!

Gemma Teller Morrow: Yes! Thank you, God. Maybe... we should say a little prayer.

Wendy Teller: Okay... That'd be good.

Gemma Teller Morrow: Dear God... Thank you for saving this boy... From his murderous, junkie mom. Who cared more about a $40 dollar fix than she did her own flesh and blood.
