If binging is more your speed, new TV shows added to Tubi in March will include the 1971 classic “All In The Family,” the sitcom “Community” and the “Men in Black” series. And for those looking for frights, the first four “Insidious” films will be available to stream.

Along with the updated library, Tubi is also premiering three original thrillers.

Per the statement, Kent (née Rodolfo Franklin) had been battling colon cancer for the past three years and died surrounded by his loved ones Thursday evening.

“It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of the beloved Rodolfo A. Franklin, known to the world as DJ Clark Kent,” the Instagram post read. “Clark passed away Thursday evening surrounded by his devoted wife Kesha, daughter Kabriah and son Antonio. Clark quietly and valiantly fought a three year battle with Colon Cancer, while continuing to share his gifts with the world. The family is grateful for everyone’s love, support and prayers during this time and ask for privacy as they process this immense loss.”

It's no surprise, given The Equalizer is about a vigilante getting over the trauma of old and dishing out justice, albeit with a deadlier edge, to redeem themselves. To that point, rather than immerse himself in a Dark Knight film, Fuqua's style would actually lean more toward Red Hood than Batman.

The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster is not the first version of Frankenstein set in the Black community. There was Black Frankenstein, better known as Blackenstein, back in 1973 and more recently FrankenThug. The difference is while the previous two versions were exploitation films, writer/director Bomani J. Story set out to make a more serious film, one that like Mary Shelly’s novel, is out to do more than just deliver scares.

Vicaria has not had an easy life. At eight she saw her mother shot and killed. In the wake of that, Chris started working for local gang boss Kango and ended up dead. Now she watches her father Donald struggle to support her despite the growing drug habit he’s developed trying to cope with their deaths.

Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2023 don’t feature many blockbusters, but if we dig a little, I’m sure we can find some gems.

Perhaps the most promising items are on the TV side of things. Tiny Beautiful Things premieres on April 7 and stars Kathryn Hahn as “a floundering writer who becomes a revered advice columnist while her own life is falling apart.” That will be followed by comedy Am I Being Unreasonable? on April 11 and two documentaries: high school football story Algiers, America (April 19) and Tupac Shakur piece Dear Mama (April 22).

The best TV candidate this month, however, is probably Saint X on April 26. This series, told via multiple timelines, “explores and upends the girl-gone-missing genre as it explores how a young woman’s mysterious death during an idyllic Caribbean vacation creates a traumatic ripple effect that eventually pulls her surviving sister into a dangerous pursuit of the truth.

Tubi originals for April include “Dead Hot,” co-starring Vanessa Hudgens and Gg Magree. They play witchcraft students who long to connect with the spirit world. But when a ghost hunt goes wrong, they head to Salem, Massachusetts, for a masterclass.

“A Good Man,” another streamer original, lands on April 13. A man enters a new relationship in the aftermath of his wife’s affair. But soon, things go awry when he notices familiar signs of betrayal.

The four movies that comprise “The Scorpion King” arrive April 1. A prequel and spinoff of “The Mummy,” the first movie, in 2002, is a sorcery action-adventure film starring starring Dwayne Johnson, Steven Brand, Kelly Hu, Grant Heslov, and Michael Clarke Duncan. An evil ruler wants to conquer the tribes of the desert.

Even if you’ve signed up for every streaming service out there, it can feel monumental when a title moves from one to another. In April, Netflix mainstay “New Girl” moves to Hulu; still streaming, but not where fans are used to finding it — like rearranging the furniture in your apartment and waking up surprised every day that the couch is over there now.

But what’s important is that “New Girl” lives on, now joining Hulu’s own TV and movie library and originals from Freeform, FX, National Geographic, and more. Later in the month, Leila Gerstein’s “Saint X” — based on the novel by Alexis Schaitkin — premieres with three episodes, recounting the story of a young girl found dead during a family vacation and the sister piecing it together years later. Alycia Debnam-Carey, Josh Bonzie, West Duchovny, Jayden Elijah, Bre Francis, Kenlee Anaya Townsend, Betsy Brandt, and Michael Park star.

“Emancipation” director Antoine Fuqua wanted music that was spiritual but yet untraditional: a tall order for composer Marcelo Zarvos, doing their fifth film together.

“The bar was very high on this one,” Zarvos tells Variety about the Will Smith escape-from-slavery saga. “It’s so relevant and so momentous for the times that we’re living in; it looks back but also shines a light on our current society.”

The Brazilian-born composer – whose other films include Fuqua’s “Brooklyn’s Finest” and “The Guilty” as well as TV’s “Ray Donovan” – employed a traditional orchestra and choir but treated them in unusual and dramatically effective ways.

Much has been made of titles being quietly removed from HBO Max over the last few week, but while the number of films departing the service in September is substantial, at least subscribers have a heads up.

Aubert (Friday After Next), Cocoa Brown (Never Have I Ever), Tobias Truvillion (Brooklyn’s Finest) and De’aundre Bonds (Father Stu) will lead the cast of the crime drama Sisters, from writer-director Jahmar Hill (Run), which is heading into production in October.

The film tells the story of three family members reunited by tragedy. After their mother’s early passing, Diamond and her “sisters” grew up under the care of their loving grandmother. But when her health deteriorates, threatening that relationship, the trio is willing to do anything to save her life — even take someone else’s.

The cast for Sisters also includes Hill, Alisa Reyes, Christine Lakin, Jensen Atwood, Ciera Angelia, Sade Whiting, Heidy Javier, Latoya Ward, Isaac J. Sullivan, Mia Mendez, Eduardo M. Pulido, Charles W. Harris III, Crystal T. Williams, Del Harrison, Devon Ray and Nabillah Nahim.

Six years since the premiere of “The Magnificent Seven” and lead star Ethan Hawke is still pushing for the five-hour cut to be released.

The #ReleasetheFuquaCut campaign can only get so far, though, as Hawke revealed he’s been begging director Antoine Fuqua for over half a decade.

“In some ways, I see all his films [as] a collective scream against authority,” Hawke told The Hollywood Reporter of his collaborations with Fuqua. “[It’s] 107 [degrees] in Louisiana and there were more studio execs than our 100-person cast. He just put his head down and made his movie. I still beg him to release the five-hour cut of that film.”

The 2016 film was a remake of the John Sturges classic inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s “Seven Samurai.” Fuqua’s updated Western starred Hawke, Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Vincent D’Onofrio, Lee Byung-hun, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Martin Sensmeier, Peter Sarsgaard, and Haley Bennett.

MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount have signed an overall deal with Emmy Award-winning director and producer Antoine Fuqua through his production banner Hill District Media, the companies announced on Tuesday.

The deal comes on the heels of Fuqua’s successful partnership on the Paramount+ hit series “Mayor of Kingstown,” which was the streaming platform’s second most-watched original series and was recently renewed for a second season.

The overall deal will focus primarily on original scripted and unscripted content for television with 101 Studios serving as production partner on all projects.

“Developing a continued partnership with Paramount & 101 Studios is a huge honor and I am looking forward to working together on a new slate of projects” Fuqua said in a statement to TheWrap. “They are great partners to work with on “Mayor of Kingstown,” and share in the vision of what’s to come for Hill District Media.”

In his new role, Davies will be responsible for spearheading the planning and execution of Bleecker Street’s theatrical movies. Its upcoming releases include “Infinite Storm” with Naomi Watts, “Montana Story” starring Haley Lu Richardson, “Mr. Malcolm’s List” featuring Freida Pinto and “Golda” starring Helen Mirren.

When Miller’s Crossing was released in 1990, we as an audience were still trying to determine what the Coen brothers were all about. This, their third feature film, was totally different from their previous movie, Raising Arizona (1987), which was radically different from their debut title, Blood Simple (1984). Raising Arizona was a wacky comedy. Miller’s Crossing may have had more similarities to Blood Simple, being that they are both neo-noir crime dramas with a gritty, hard edge but laced with the now-familiar but then-surprisingly unique ingredient of Coen dark humor. Still, Miller’s Crossing, being a period piece that takes place during the Prohibition years, is a more elegant, and certainly more technically accomplished, picture than Blood Simple. Sudden, brutal violence, though, remains a trait of both movies.

Writer, director and producer Gina Atwater is getting into business with Netflix with a new multi-year overall deal. Under the agreement, Atwater will create, produce, and write new series and other projects, focusing on prestige content across multiple genres that put traditionally underrepresented characters front and center.

For her first project, Atwater is writing an adaptation of Jordan Ifueko’s bestselling YA fantasy book Raybearer, which is in early development at Netflix. The project hails from Sugar23 and Macro Television Studios.

“Gina is a triple threat as a writer, director and producer and we’re thrilled to be working with her,” said Matt Thunell, Netflix Vice President, Overall Deals. “Her experiences crafting fearless, character-centered work amid complex fantasy worlds makes her the perfect writer to take on the world of Raybearer.”

Atwater is from Atlanta, Ga and earned her Mfa in Film from Columbia University’s School of the Arts.

Exclusive: Comedy writer-producer Erica Oyama (Young Rock) has signed a three-year overall deal with Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. Under the pact, Oyama will develop and produce projects for the studio, run by Erin Underhill, aimed at a variety of platforms.

Oyama most recently was a co-executive producer on the first season of Universal TV’s breakout NBC comedy series Young Rock.

“When I was growing up in Alabama my dream was to become a cashier at Piggly Wiggly,” said Oyama. “I feel like this deal might be even cooler than that! John Langley, creator and executive producer of the long-running reality series Cops, died of an apparent heart attack June 26 in Baja, Mexico as he was competing in the Coast to Coast Ensenada-San Felipe 250 off road race.

Cops premiered on Fox in 1989 and aired continually as a first-run series until 2020, with multiple versions around the world still airing in syndication.

In addition to Cops, which he executive produced with his son, Morgan Langley, Langley Productions produced the theatrical film Brooklyn’s Finest and the non-fiction series Jail, Vegas Strip and Anatomy of a Crime. Langley also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in February 2011.
