By all metrics this is much better movie fare than the garbage Hard Kill. That one is a real mangy dog.
This one is not an original story but still engaging enough for the duration and good performances from the lead male and female. Others do well enough holding up their ends. It ain't Hitchcock or De Palma, but it's very watchable.
There are elements of this thriller, quasi-action movie that I liked a lot. It is unusual, for sure. The pacing and the story are very unique. The revenge story has an unusually tempered tone, which is one of the things I think people did not like about it. It is is little long, and a little disconnected in the story but the point gets across. I think the acting is unusually good for a low budget, foreign film. Mark Dacascos is very good in this. I found his character's motive to be sympathetic, but his execution of his revenge is maybe too cerebral to land emotionally. The supporting cast is very, very strong in this. Worth watching.
I couldn't watch this film in one hit, it was too slow. Slow paced films work when they hold your interest in character, this fell short somewhere. Plot was OK but the reveals were mistimed. It was also very staged but in a way that it was hard to maintain the suspension of disbelief. Glad I watched it to the end as it ties up nicely if dark Disney is your thing but this film missed a trick somewhere. It wasn't bad, the lead actors did well but it really needed padding perhaps a bit more money for extras...
Story was ripped from Collateral. You're better off sticking to the original with Tom Cruise an Jamie Foxx.
Despite an absolutely gripping lead performance from Mark Dacascos the rest of One Night in Bangkok doesn't measure up with all the low-octane thrills that follow from watching a man ticking items off his to-do list. Given that director Wych "Kaos" Kaosayananda helmed the mouthful of a title that is Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever, I was optimistic to see what he could do without a studio taking creative control away from him, needless to say that this film is certainly a step in the right direction. Even with all the vibes of Collateral, One Night in Bangkok, unfortunately, doesn't land. Awful pacing, nauseating music and fatally stalling whenever Kaos has to develop his hitman drama beyond place-holding cliches.
