The Big Night In

I enjoyed it, and I hope it does what it was designed to do, which is raise lots of money to help those affected most by the Pandemic. There were some nice sketches including The Doctors and Vicar of Dibley, but the standout moment had to be the return of Lauren, Tate and Tennant were just glorious, how on Earth does she manage not to age a single day! It was a brilliant sketch, and provides some much needed fun.

Stay safe, give generously. 8/10.

The Coronavirus pandemic has caused a challenge for television broadcasters.

Filming of television shows have been suspended or curtailed. Many shows have been broadcast with a skeleton staff, presenters standing two meters apart and gusts appearing via video links.

The BBC which has been harangued by the Tory government who wants to destroy it financially. Before the pandemic they thought the Netflix model would be the future of television even though Netflix has yet to make a profit.

The BBC has upped its game by providing special interest shows, put their library on Iplayer and even put educational segments for kids who will be off school for months.

This 3 hour extravaganza was raising funds for people in Britain. The first time Children and Need and Comic Relief have combined. It is easy to forget that people have lost jobs and businesses because of the pandemic.

Lenny Henry was the anchor throughout the evening. There was a mixture of sketches, songs and segments highlighting people and groups that funds were being raised for.

Catherine Tate returned as Lauren. A Foo Fighters song was covered by a cast of mainly young singers. I think Dave Grohl was moved by it. The Little Britain duo did some new skits after some years. Apparently Walliams and Lucas fell out and technically they still did not get together!

Ten Doctor Whos praised the NHS and its staff and I thought getting a descendant of General Melchett was rather nice. Maybe we could had done without Peter Kay, because he looked ill.
