The Silk Road

This series is absolutely not to be missed by anyone who has any interest in learning and experiencing more of the beauty and history of the countries involved with the Silk Road. The first episode about Venice is mind-blowing and the series maintains that extremely high level of film-making subsequently. Do not miss this! The guide is an excellent interviewer and the cinematography is matchless. I'm amazed this production did not garner any awards. My wife and I have spent weeks traveling around Iran and we still learned a great deal that was new to us. We're almost done with the series, and we will probably watch it again when it's done!

This is my absolute favorite documentary of any genre. The correspondent, Alfred, takes us on a journey from Europe to China along the Silk Road. He takes us into cultures that are to this day apart from the global connected society. He does it effortlessly and the entire series is like a movie. I was so captivated that I didn't even realize until the third episode that I was watching in English even though it was filmed in French and whatever local language of the region they were in. I've watched the series twice now. Highly recommended.

Fantastic documentary. The commentator gets answers to the kinds of questions you really want asked. He goes behind the scenes in places like rug factories and glass mosaic works. He links up history to place and back again. I will watch it again.
