The Balkans

Poorly researched documentary using unreliable sources. The kid is interviewing people he found randomly on the street who are poorly informed themselves. Lots of propaganda. It is also very slow, and there was no need for that as it is such an interesting and colourful region of Europe. I found most of the subjects that he covered and views quite stereotypical of somebody who is from Western Europe or America. He seems to be just proving his bias. The documentary also talks about subjects that have little relevance to the current population of the region. These subjects are very rarely discussed in modern day Balkans and do not say much about the region at present. A lot of his guides are very young people who have very little knowledge or experience.

Amazon prime have produced something incredible here. They've stepped out of their box to provide an educational and entertaining experience like never before. We see these countries from every angle, with loads of great interviews and adventurous stories. When is Season 2 coming?! Want to see lots more from this talented lot. Venturing to the little known regions. This may be low budget but im sure they will get more for the next one, the filming is still fantatsic and the story we are presented make the mystery seem like a cliffhanger in a good drama. watching this during lockdown was a perfect substitute for my planned trip to croatia this summer. Far better than the new zac effron doc on netflix.

There is no other series like this, a truly engaging show, told like a story. Cannot recommend enough. Sound quality isnt the best, but it wont stop you from watching it. Episode 3 alone makes up for that. The series finale is a cinematic rollercoaster, you want to find out what happens next. Theyve left some Balkan countries out, Croatia, Bosnia etc... but hopefully there will be a second season soon? Like David, I hope so!
