    Looking For Monsters...

This series, which aired on the History Channel, presents expeditions who try and prove the existence of various legendary monsters like Bigfoot, Nessie, Champ, or just werewolves, giant sharks, octopus, etc.

Computer graphics aid the descriptions of the monsters, using 3-D imagery and some speculation, along with some suspense as the hunters keep coming close to proving the existence of these creatures, but the biggest problem with the series is that they never quite do! Of course, if they did, it would be front page headlines I suppose...

Series is on DVD, though was canceled rather quickly for some reason. It is interesting, if lacking in style.

    Science for Entertainment

First of all, I am not here to comment on the "IfAndOrButs" of the paranormal; this is a review for a show, placed on a media reviewing site. Wannabe scientists would do well to acknowledge this, and seek attention elsewhere.

The show attempts to entertain viewers by providing stories of the unexplained, via legends and stories, and the firsthand accounts of purported witnesses. Many of these shows do this, however, Monsterquest is unique in that it also attempts to add a scientific aspect to this, by analyzing dna samples, confirming witness truthfulness, and making short expeditions to the localities where the alleged events take place. Naturally, they return largely empty handed, or you would have seen it on the news, they would stop calling it "paranormal", and supposed "know-it-alls" would actively avoid the spotlight. These scientific exploits are for tv; they have a small budget, and limited time, since they only have to cover perhaps half an hour of screentime, leaving the rest for stories and interviews and whatnot. What the show accomplishes, in my opinion, is it's true goal, which is entertainment. Creepy atmosphere, scary campfire stories, and, ultimately, satisfaction of people's desire to face their fear of the unknown, as well as, perhaps, the hope that there is still segments of our world left undiscovered, and that, since most of us cannot quit our lives to go gallivanting around searching for answers, we can do so vicariously through shows like this, taking us with them on their hunt for the interesting, if admittedly unlikely, unexplained phenomenon we seek.

Watch this show for the entertainment, that's what it's made for.

Interesting Show, Who doesn't think about the myths and stories that we heard every day ?

I think this is one of the shows that comes out of the normal circle. It's always interesting to see new subjects , new researches and come'on who isn't curious about this Myth's , Monsters, and that kind of stories that we heard all the time ? this is the kind of show that give us some clues of what we might think that is a myth and it isn't and what's really a fiction, something just made up.

The only thing I criticize is the duration (40 min) in some of the subjects, I think they could go deeply on the subject. But still, it is a good series , to see now and then.

and by the way "robnels2000" with all the respect, first, see the series before you open your mouth, and second, learn how to write English well before you criticize something, it destroys all the argumments

    Stay well folks

    Big foot :)

Some of the shows can be explained like the Chupacabra, I have shot manged out coyotes that look just like that.. I live in the woods, and have seen 2 unexplainable things.. Not crazy or far out "not bigfoot" just unexplainable... Anyway, I Love the show, and big foot!!! Hook me up at that Snow Grove Lake cabin for a whole year!!! I don't need much of anything, a good camcorder, and a very few odds and end things... I can live off the land year around... I'll find it, and get SOME kinda proof for ya... If it, or anything else is around... Heck i'll even do any of the work ya want done to the cabin, inside or out for FREE... DREAM place for me to live for a lifetime, but a year would do I guess, no joke send me now :)

    Much ado about nothing

I've seen most of the episodes, each searching for different cryptids. Each episode has promoters, detractors, and other scientists. Invariably the hair they analyze isn't the cryptid, the camera "traps" only startle known animals, and those actively searching for it supposedly get close but never quite encounter the "beast". The eyewitnesses claim the beasts come near them but they never get a good photo. Just once I'd like them to interview someone who sees the beast, chases it down, and tackles it while his buddy films it. The number of fuzzy photos, or photos where the creature steps out of the shot are too many to be real. I'll believe a couple of photos might be blurry, but darn near all of the photos and video leave the image up to an editor freehand drawing the outline of the beast on a color-reversal of the photo. This show could have been so much more. A better title might have been "Monster Quest: Yeah...Not this week."
