Midori Francis, who has played Mika Yasuda on Grey’s Anatomy for the last two seasons, is departing the medical drama as a series regular, Deadline has learned. According to sources, Francis is in negotiations to return next season to wrap up the story of her character.

I hear this was an amicable decision. Francis had been looking to branch out for the next step of her career and signed with WME earlier this year. She is the second Grey’s Anatomy series regular who will be departing early next season, along with Jake Borelli who has played Levi Schmitt for seven seasons. The Suits L.A. pilot has added a robust guest cast that includes a 1970s television icon playing himself. The pilot is setting up a potential new spinoff to the long-running USA Network legal drama Suits, which became a smash streaming hit on Netflix and Peacock in 2023. It stars Stephen Amell as Ted Black, who moves from New York City, where he was a federal prosecutor, back to his Los Angeles firm Black Lane Law. The main cast of the pilot also includes Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, Bryan Greenberg, and Troy Winbush.

Per Deadline, three guest stars have been added to the lineup for the Suits L.

Francis has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy for her performance as Lily in the Netflix series Dash & Lily from the producers of Stranger Things. BBC One and Amazon Studios have revealed several first look images from upcoming series “A Very British Scandal,” featuring Claire Foy, two-time Emmy winner for Netflix’s “The Crown.”

Don’t know if you’ve heard but Netflix is doing pretty well with their local language releases. Now, with its list of new releases for September 2021, Netflix is leading with one of its biggest international hits.

Season 5 of the worldwide smash Money Heist is set to premiere its first half on Sept. 3. This Spanish series (called La Casa de Papel in its native tongue) about a group of geographically-named thieves found new life on Netflix to become a global phenomenon. Other international series of note this month include Sex Education and Jaguar.

Netflix’s roster of originals in September 2021 is pretty packed even beyond that. The final season of Lucifer premieres on Sept. 10. Victoria Justice (Afterlife of the Party) and Adam Demos (Sex/Life) have signed on to star in an untitled romantic comedy, which Stuart McDonald (Summer Heights High, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) is directing for Netflix.

The film written by Elizabeth Hackett and Hilary Galanoy centers on a hard-driving LA wine-company exec who travels to an Australian sheep station to land a major client. There, she ends up working as a ranch hand and sparking with a rugged local.

Robyn Snyder, Deborah Evans, Deborah Glover, and Tracey Vieira are producing the pic, which will be shot on location in Queensland, Australia.

Tracey Robertson is exec producing with Nathan Mayfield, Elizabeth Hackett, Hilary Galanoy and Fernando Szew.

Production and post-production will be supported by the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy. The film will create around 120 jobs for Queenslanders.

In the film, Justice stars as a hard-driving L.A. wine-company exec who, in order to land a major client, travels to an Australian sheep station where she ends up working as a ranch hand and sparking with a rugged local.

The as-yet-untitled movie will be directed by Stuart McDonald, from a script by Elizabeth Hackett and Hilary Galanoy, who previously worked with Demos on 2019’s “Falling Inn Love,” which also starred Christina Milian.

The project is produced by Robyn Snyder, Deborah Evans, Deborah Glover and Tracey Vieira. Tracey Robertson, Nathan Mayfield, Hackett, Galanoy and Fernando Szew serve as executive producers.

Both Justice and Demos have a history with the streamer, as Justice is next set to star in the Netflix movie “Afterlife of the Party” and Demos starred in the steamy drama “Sex/Life.

Teased last October in national commercial spots, the streaming monolith is guaranteeing its roughly 193 million subscribers unseen features every week in 2021. Largely consisting of original productions as well as some splashy acquisitions, the slate has 71 titles across genres — from musicals to action, romantic comedies to family animation.

Dwayne Johnson, Melissa McCarthy, Halle Berry, Jason Momoa, Amy Adams, Ryan Reynolds, Chris Hemsworth and Lin-Manuel Miranda are among those featured in sizzle reel released Tuesday (watch below) showcasing their respective projects, which will roll out over the next 12 months.
