Clancy is a film that really had me torn. It got just too sad and too sentimental and the character that Christina Fourgnie played was way too much a Pollyanna considering all she went through.
Still there is something about this Christian based film that will get to you the way little Clancy Miller gets to homeless Gulf War veteran Jefferson Moore.
Young Fourgnie leaves her drug and alcohol abusing mother and runs away and meets up with Director/Writer/Lead Actor of the film Jefferson Moore. The mother who barely acknowledged her existence while she was home sounds the general alarm when she runs away .
James Bailey the mayor of the small town and his police commissioner Tom Luce see possibilities here for a political coup for the mayor who is up for re-election. Now this part is most real because I've seen some bottom feeding politicians pull stuff like what these two try to pull and worse. For them it's a political disaster and it ends in tragedy.
The performances that Fourgnie and Moore give are quite good and they have decent chemistry. Still Fourgnie's character is a bit much to swallow.

This movie will bring you to tears, but it is all about God and how much love a person has for someone they didn't know
I loved the simplicity of this movie. A war vet with post traumatic disorder and a young, abused girl, with a mother who had drug problems. It was a heart and tear movie.
I loved how the two main characters blended together. I know nothing of the actors. The only thing I would have liked to see different, as addiction still is so misunderstood, is if her "mom" was in treatment and getting better. I, myself, am an recovering alcoholic. I have never burned a child or hurt another human being. But, being in the AA program, I understand what substance abuse does to someone and those who love them.
I did not like that her "mom" was getting help, but I was a little girl like her, a "little adult," just as she was, so I totally understood how adult she was at a very young age.
This is a lovely movie, for so many reasons. Two folks coming together from different ages and different experiences, sharing and learning together. That's what we do in AA, I wish the whole world would take notice and could work together the same way.

By the way, this is my first review ever. For whatever that means.
Take care, and look at others in a different light. They might be just like you or agree with whatever you do in your lives. Not one of us is perfect. Give yourself and others a break.
Thanks, Cathy PS - you don't have to be a Christian to understand this movie. Ask me why. It's a bit explanation.

To me, a film is good if it accomplishes one or more of my list of desires as I watch a movie: entertainment, escape, teaching, beauty, display of great skill whether it's an actor, costumer, music score or whatever.
This movie, despite a lower budget than some, hits a home run with talent and teaching, and in the long run, beauty.
My suggestion would be to watch it and relax... enjoy the ride. Don't put expectations on it because.... it simply has something to teach you. But don't look for it... just let it roll into your heart.
I LOVED the relationship that develops between two unlikely characters. Really nice natural acting and the truth is there are valuable relationships all over the place between "unlikely" people. There are a lot of other important truths displayed in this wonderful film as well.
I highly recommend this film. Don't expect a classic or a lush budgeted movie. But if you appreciate deep truth I believe you'll like it a lot.
Appropriate for teens and above but for younger kids I'd view it first then decide. Not for little ones due to some necessary violence and intense issues. This film is worth seeking out.

I rated this movie 10, for excellent because 1) It has spectacular dialogues. 2) It has excellent acting on all part 3) It entertains you and informs you of God's love, and that lowly circumstances do not keep us from Him. Halley Loo Ya!
I loved the scene work also, and the way the story just evolves. It is typical of many children today who love their parents, and would not like to think of them badly even if they are hit.
Take some time to view this, and then watch it again because you will see many new things the 2nd time around. I loved this movie and I own the whole Kelly's Filmworks movies. They're fantastic.

- TriviaThe original working titles were 'Sarah', then 'Rachael', but screenwriter Jefferson Moore felt that the lead character needed a more distinctive name. While doing theatre in Indiana, he settled on the perfect name, that of one of his castmates: Clancy Hauber.
