The original Digimon series started with seven kids who knew each other from summer camp. They had a past event in common to unite them. They had the time to explore the Digital World without constantly being attacked and rushed through digivolutions. They learned and grew over time like real people. New digivolutions mattered more since they didn't come as quickly. You had the time to know the children and Digimon. There were good to evil Digimon everywhere instead of just good or evil Digimon. This new show recycles and rushes through everything while doing it worse.
After Hasbro folded Allspark into eOne likely scenario is that they'll have canadians voice the characters or Funimation and Sentai Filmworks to dub it, if it was the case there would major backlash and bad feed back from all Digimon fans.
I am one of those who hoped this reboot will have the feel that it had almost 25 years ago. It is nowhere near it. But i gave it seven stars because i don't want to take part in drowning it, we have to be aware of the fact that it is meant for children under the age of 14. Still, it is stripped of the deep meaning the original had. Now evolution just happens. In fact there were two in the first episode, and it doesn't feel deserved. But oh well, life is fast paced now, i guess they adapted the story. But in my opinion, they lost that unique feeling it separated it from competitors, like "Pokemon". Now it's just another cartoon, that in my opinion won't be unique in children's eyes.
This is a loosely remake from the original series. It started well with new digimon, an interesting main story and entertaining side stories. However, it has a great directing problem. The story focus way too much on the protagonist Taichi leaving all others with no important roles, specially in the second half of the series. It seems like the others are there just because they were there in the original. Taichi bizzarrely teleports with no explanation to the others locations to secure he will appear in very episode. Yamato who was a protagonist in the original series, now there is only 2-3 episodes where he is important out of 66. Sora is another character who is treated very bad. Sometimes the plot seems aimless, with bad time allocation.
I watched the original when it was first airing. It was a great mix of character development, serialized storytelling and strong villains. Truly original for the time. This new reboot has none of that charm, it meanders and drags out stories. All the character development is gone, the characters spend less than half of the series together and don't grow as a team the same way we loved in the original.
I know I am solely basing this rating off of how this compares to the original, maybe that isn't fair but IMO if you're going to reboot something it should end up better than the original This isn't even close.
