This Modern Halloween Icon Gets a Chilling New Animatronic
Image
While the upcoming Halloween season will be full of Michael Myers terrorizing ill-fated babysitters in Haddonfield, he’s not the only spooky icon the horror genre has for the holiday. In terms of the modern genre, Sam fromMichael Dougherty’s Trick ‘r Treat has taken over places like Spirit Halloween. Now, this lovable demonic protector of Halloween is a part of the seasonal retailer’s animatronic collection.

Featured in Spirit Halloween’s 2025 animatronic series, Sam stands at over 39-inches-tall (over 3 feet). Or should we say sitting. Sam is seen sitting on a hay bale in his famous orange pajamas and potato sack mask. He's in front of a haunting jack-o'-lantern while holding a candy bar with a razor in it. Sam’s head moves side-to-side and the pumpkin lights up with an eerie orange glow. If that wasn't enough, the song “Trick or Treat, Smell My Feet” also plays as this demon watches over Halloween.

Before 'Terrifier 4,' Art the Clown Makes a Festive Comeback With New Spirit Halloween Animatronic
Image
Terrifier 3took the horror world by storm when it was released last fall. The blood-soaked unrated slasher sequel from director Damien Leone had the extra novelty of being a Christmas movie. That allowed the famous killer Art the Clown do his best Santa Claus cosplay as he ruined the holiday season for everyone. Now, ahead of Terrifier 4, Santa Art has returned with a scary new animatronic from Spirit Halloween.

A part of the popular Halloween retailers’ franchise animatronic line, this Art the Clown stands at a menacing 6 feet 3 inches tall and comes armed with a deadly axe –just like the traumatizing opening scene of Terrifier 3. Art’s Santa suit is also covered in blood, especially where his “jolly” beard is concerned. His arms wave back and forth and includes audio from the third film. One of the examples is the original song “It's a Terrifier Christmas.” If that wasn't enough,...

The Naked Gun (2025) Movie Review: The Exact Breed of Meticulous Stupidity We Need Right Now
Image
Liam Neeson’s late-career hard pivot from every dad’s favorite grizzled thespian to every dad’s favorite grizzled action star may have seemingly come out of nowhere, but this new lane was one the Irish actor embodied so thoroughly that nobody really minded it; in fact, we all more or less embraced with open arms this new era of ass-kicking and name-taking between moments of fatherly bonding. After a while, though, there were only so many “Run All Night”s or “Cold Pursuit”s we could handle before we’d start to miss the time when films like “Silence” were closer to the norm than the outlier in Neeson’s oeuvre.

The man has always attested, however, that he’ll continue to crack his knuckles and throw his punches for as long as his body would allow him to, but with “The Naked Gun” (2025), Neeson seems to have applied...

Ahead of 'The Conjuring: Last Rites,' Valak the Demon Nun Gets a Scary New Animatronic From Spirit Halloween
Image
We're halfway through 2025, and it's already been another stellar year for the horror genre. A ton of major franchises have returned, like Final Destination and M3GAN. However, when it comes to modern horror, there's no series as big as The Conjuring. The James Wan-created nightmare franchise has been successfully scaring moviegoers for over a decade, but The Conjuring: Last Ritesis set to be the final chapter for Ed and Lorraine Warren this fall. Before the main series comes to a horrifying close, though, you can now own one of The Conjuring’s most iconic demons.

Spirit Halloween just unveiled its 2025 wave of spooky animatronics, with Valak the Demon Nun being the centerpiece this year. The menacing decoration stands at five feet, eight inches tall. On top of that, “Valak’s arms open outward, and head lifts up as she lunges toward you for a realistic quick scare action. Eerie bell,...

Spirit Halloween Takes Jab at ‘SNL’ With “Irrelevant 50-Year-Old TV Show” Costume Following Sketch
Image
Spirit Halloween isn’t letting Saturday Night Live get the last word.

The seasonal holiday store took to its official X (formerly Twitter) account to hit back at the sketch comedy show after the season 50 premiere on Saturday featured a sketch poking fun at the store that sells Halloween costumes and decor throughout October.

“We are great at raising things back from the dead,” the post read, which also included a photo of a costume in honor of the SNL‘s milestone 50th season. The costume’s tag read, “Irrelevant 50-year-old TV show” that includes “dated references, unknown cast members and shrinking ratings.”

Spirit Halloween ruthlessly mocks "irrelevant" SNL after recent sketch
Image
Saturday Night Live likes to poke fun at different institutions. It's never particularly scathing. It's SNL, after all. The show decided to go the topical route and lampoon Spirit Halloween, the costume store chain that surfaces every October and then disappears for the rest of the year.

The sketch, which aired during the season 50 premiere, was fine. It was towards the middle of the pack in terms of quality, but Spirit Halloween saw an opportunity to cash in on their Saturday Night Live exposure. They fired back with a social media post that was far more brutal.

Spirit Halloween claimed SNL had 'shrinking ratings'

‘SNL’ Hurt Spirit Halloween’s Feelings
Image
Last weekend’s season premiere of Saturday Night Live had more misses than hits, but at least it scored with a pre-taped spoof about everyone’s favorite pop-up seasonal retailer, Spirit Halloween. “Since 1983, Spirit Halloween has been helping our struggling communities by setting up shop in every vacant building in the country for six weeks and then bouncing,” said Heidi Gardner.

“And thanks to us,” added Michael Longfellow, “what used to be a condemned AutoZone where a murder happened is once again a thriving business where a murder happened.”

Play

The fake commercial touted the holiday store’s other virtues: “Wigs that give you a rash, single-use fog machines and costumes of famous characters tweaked just enough to avoid a lawsuit.”

Honestly, where’s the lie?

But just because SNL spoke the truth about Spirit Halloween doesn’t mean the company can’t be all in its feelings about it.

"Irrelevant 50-Year-Old TV Show": Spirit Halloween Claps Back At SNL With Parody Costume After Sketch
Image
Saturday Night Live gets a taste of its own medicine when Spirit Halloween responds with a harsh parody costume following a sketch at their expense. The hit NBC sketch show returned with its season 50 premiere on September 28, featuring Jean Smart as the host with Jelly Roll as the musical guest. With October having now arrived, the season 50 debut featured a sketch poking fun at Spirit Halloween, with SNL cast members like Chloe Fineman and Heidi Gardner poking fun at the company's rapid store setup and the quality of their costumes.

The official SNL account posted the sketch on X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday, September 29, and Spirit Halloween has now clapped back with its own burn of the long-running show. The post includes the caption: "We are great at raising things back from the dead," a dig at the show, but it's the image of the parody costume that features the gloves really coming off.

Spirit Halloween Playfully Roasts ‘SNL’ After Fake Ad Sketch by Calling It an ‘Irrelevant 50-Year-Old Show’ With ‘Shrinking Ratings’ and ‘Unknown Cast’
Image
Spirit Halloween is kicking off spooky season by trolling “Saturday Night Live” after the NBC sketch comedy series aired a Spirit Halloween parody during the Season 50 premiere. The official X account for Spirit Halloween responded by giving “SNL” its own costume tweaked just enough to avoid a lawsuit. The store posted a photo for an “SNL” Season 50 costume titled “Irrelevant 50-Year-Old TV Show” that includes “dated references, unknown cast members and shrinking ratings.”

'Irrelevant 50-Year-Old TV Show': Spirit Halloween Slams SNL After Season Premiere Sketch
Image
Saturday Night Live returned to NBC with its Season 50 premiere on Saturday night. During the show, one sketch took aim at Spirit Halloween, and this did not go over well with the seasonal retailer.

In the SNL sketch, presented as a commercial for Spirit Halloween, it was joked how the retailer always pops up to take over an empty building when another company goes out of business. The faux ad also poked fun at the quality of the costumes sold by Spirit Halloween along with how the company hires "perverts" for its staff. The video closed with the message, "Spirit Halloween, coming and going soon."

Saturday Night Live Season 50 Premiere Limps Through Stale Bits And Wastes The Brilliant Jean Smart
Image
"Saturday Night Live" certainly didn't kick off their milestone 50th season with a bang. However, we shouldn't really be surprised. Historically, the season premieres of "SNL" aren't great episodes, mostly because the writers and cast members are a bit rusty after having the entire summer away from the show, and they often have to cycle through some tired material that is already stale by the time it makes it in front of cameras in Studio 8H.

Unfortunately, that means "Hacks" star Jean Smart didn't get their best material, and the result was a middling episode with the sketches ranging from average to embarrassing. It's nothing to worry about, but for anyone who needed to be convinced that "SNL" still has the goods, this episode probably didn't do the trick. But that's also what makes "SNL" one of the most interesting comedy shows to watch. Anything can happen, and sometimes it's great,...

Now that the long, hot summer is here, fans of the macabre are looking forward to the next big thing: Halloween. Spirit Halloween stores will be opening in August, which is right around the corner, so the spooky season giant has released the details on their newest animatronic decorations. I don’t know about you, but I take great delight in walking into a Spirit Halloween store for the first time each year, stepping on those plastic mats, and watching the ghoulish animatronics move, scream and light up.

For this year’s offerings, Spirit Halloween is rolling out a mixture of original demons and monsters alongside the brand names we all know and love. Here’s a sampling of the animatronics available for Halloween 2024 while supplies last:

Spirit Halloween unveiled their 2024 animatronic lineup, featuring fan favorites from iconic horror movies like Halloween and Scream. New additions include Art the Clown, Deluxe Ghostface, and an online-exclusive Michael Myers with realistic stabbing motions and sound effects. The Art the Clown animatronic from Terrifier 2 stands 6 feet 2 inches, and plays a melody of horn blowing sounds for a terrifying experience.

The premiere destination for all things spooky, Spirit Halloween, recently unveiled its lineup of 2024 animatronics, which include fan favorites from Terrifier 2, Halloween, Scream, and Tim Burtons Corpse Bride. As the nations largest Halloween retailer, Spirit Halloween stores begin popping up around the country as early as July in some locations, so fans have plenty of time to get ready for their October 31 festivities. “Hello Horror” Gives a Halloween Home Makeover to Lucky Horror Fan! [Video]
Marissa Reyes, Jaiden J. Smith, Dylan Martin Frankel, and Donovan Colan in L'Esprit d'Halloween (2022)
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year/ with the kids trick or treating/ and everyone saying you’re entitled to a scare/ it’s the most wonderful time of the year.”

Granted, Halloween is a state-of-mind all year round for most horror hounds, but even the die-hards and devotees will contend that October is busy season. A time when bite-size candy turns green, purple, and orange; when horror is on 24/7 on certain stations; and when it’s socially acceptable to turn your lawns into cemeteries, crypts, monster jams, and more.

Decorating can be difficult, though. Sometimes you need a second, or third, or fifth eye to offer some feedback. That’s exactly what “Hello Horror” brought to the table in their Halloween special. Presented by Spirit Halloween, host Vanessa Decker obtains all the right tricks and treats to give one very lucky horror fan a Halloween Home Makeover!

Spooky Night: The Spirit of Halloween review – off-the-shelf family horror

Designed to burnish a US retail chain’s brand, this tame entertainment won’t scare children too much, but it should bother the rest of us

When is a Spirit Halloween store branding exercise not a Spirit Halloween store branding exercise? When it’s a film released in the UK, where Spirit Halloween stores just aren’t a thing. In the US (where this film was titled Spirit Halloween: The Movie), consumers are blessed with more than 1,500 of them, and this pre-teen Halloween yarn set in a store built over the final resting place of evil property developer Alex Windsor (Christopher Lloyd) presumably registers more immediately as an attempt to shift some All Hallows’ Eve merch.

As far as weird IP inspirations go, it’s not the worst, but it’s also far from the best. Suitable for pre-teens too young for genuine horror movies, it’s a safe watch...

‘A Tourist’s Guide to Love’ Review: Rachael Leigh Cook Eats, Prays, and Loves Her Way Through Vietnam
Image
Rachael Leigh Cook has done all that: She’s been a teen breakout star in an iconic high school comedy (“She’s All That”), transitioned to cringe sponsored movies (“Spirit Halloween”), and made the leap to Hallmark Christmas queen (“Tis the Season to Be Merry”). Now, she’s deftly parlayed her everywoman likability into the sweet made-for-Netflix movie “A Tourist’s Guide for Love.”

Yes, “made-for-Netflix” is a category all on its own. While “The Irishman” is considered to be a Netflix Original, “made-for-Netflix” separates the mass-produced movies like the nearly-perfect “Falling for Christmas” and calming background noise of “Murder Mystery 2” from the real Oscar contenders. It’s a sliding scale of quality under the streaming titan’s content umbrella, and Cook’s latest film, “A Tourist’s Guide to Love,” feels like an adaptation of a sweet viral BookTok romance novel — in the best way possible.

Cook stars as...

10 Iconic '90s Stars You Forgot About: Where Are They Now?
Image
The stars of the '90s have had subtle shoutouts as of late, thanks to Halloween, red carpets, and new podcasts dissecting the era. Countless celebrities dressed as '90s stars for All Hollows Eve, and the recent Cfda Awards had multiple shoutouts to the decade through fashion. Although it's almost 2023, good things always come back around — including celebrities and vibes from the '90s.

Those who grew up in the '90s often think back to the heartthrobs of their generation. Whether they were big-time movie stars, comedians, or TV actors, some of these sensations faded from the spotlight as time went on, or their stardom simply ran its course. Thanks to social media, however, '90s kids can still keep up with their beloved stars to see what they've been up to over the years.

Sinbad

Sinbad was a popular comedian in the '90s who was most known for his standup career,...

David S. Pumpkins' Return Proves Saturday Night Live Has Wasted Him
Image
It was a Halloween treat many saw and few expected, but the return of David S. Pumpkins proves that Saturday Night Live has wasted their beloved character. Played by Tom Hanks, audiences first met the orange-suited David S. Pumpkins and his duo of twerking skeletons in the 2016 SNL sketch “Haunted Elevator.” Originally enjoyed for his mostly wholesome humor and energetic dance moves, it was only a year later that David S. Pumpkins would receive an animated Halloween special reminiscent of those such as The Halloween Tree. However, with a mixed reception and a seemingly rushed script, The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special was enough to retire the character until 2022’s “David Pumpkins Returns,” which revived the Halloween meme for another Saturday Night Live skit.

“David Pumpkins Returns” was a delightful surprise, as once again, the character went viral and got more than his share of laughs. Despite not contributing anything...

Wendell & Wild Review: Ambitious Stop-Motion Movie Is Creepy Family Fun
Image
Wendell & Wild, the first feature from director Henry Selick since 2009's Coraline, is an excitingly ambitious movie. It's of a piece with his previous stop-motion work in that it combines family-film sensibilities with macabre imagery in a way sure to seed the next generation of horror fans. His voice here is also clearly in dialogue with genre maestro Jordan Peele, credited as co-writer, producer, and (in a gleeful reunion with former sketch partner Keegan-Michael Key) actor. Diversity was a clear lodestar, expanding the scope of kids who can now see their off-kilter sensibilities reflected in a Selick movie, and the script is loaded with thematic and political interests — more than it has room to fully unpack. While this density is not quite as delicately layered as it might be in Peele's own projects, it ultimately does little harm to the viewing experience, particularly since it's mirrored by visually inventive...

The film's plot brings three friends together for what they think will be a night of fun inside the ubiquitous Spirit Halloween store. Once inside, however, they quickly learn that the store is far more terrifying than they'd anticipated. The film plays on the haunted house concept, offering an odd take on one of horror's oldest sub-genres.

For purists who can't get enough haunted house horror, Spirit Halloween might not necessarily be a hit. The film strays from the traditional concept - the likes of which has been meticulously crafted over many decades. So many films have found their way into the genre, in fact, that a wide array of favorites exist among its fans.
