Every so often a film comes around that is a real gem. Federal Case is such a film. Although millions of children are born our of wedlock. There are not a lot of films that deal with the subect in a dramatic fashion. This film does deal with it and you get a sense of both the hopelessness of a young girl fighting for what she believes is right against those who have the power to impose their believes on her. This film is riveting and is recommended for all teenagers and adults.
Recently I purchased a copy from Amazon.com to show support to the film as I have always followed the work of the filmmakers. I had no expectation from this little film but to my surprise this was a very well made movie. The story grabbed my attention. A love story of teenagers, a couple of cops, family feud and courtroom drama. The film has all the ingredients of a commercial cinema. And set in Mexico and Texas, it also has its ideologies. Cinematography was mindblowing. The difference in the shots of USA and Mexico was so vivid and gritty. The treatment was not hackneyed. What I liked the most was that I was not given a chance to leave halfway down which is what I had first expected when I had sat down to watch it. The feel, the music, the pace gave a different texture to this film. I must say its a very well-written after school teen drama that is a must see for teenagers and their families just for the message its spreading.
It is hard to find a movie with teenage characters in real adult grownup settings. Most teen films have kids driving around, getting in trouble but very few really show how to solve the big issues. Federal Case does a great job entertaining. the actors are wonderful and seems quite at home in their roles. The small town setting is both quaint and inviting and the courtroom drama is second to none. The scenes in Mexico Matamoros are both exciting and gritty. The movie is shot in Tony Scott style and is very effective. Great Job and Entertaining.
Federal Case was shot on the Texas Mexico border almost ten years ago yet the film still holds up to today's standards. What happens when teenagers view life differently than their parents. What happens when a parent is telling a pregnant teen to end it but the teen is committed to keeping the life growing within. All these subjects are handling in a great dramatic fashion. The footage from Mexico is exciting and authentic. The movie has the gritty Texas look we have all come to love.
Only watched part of movie, did not see the ending. First things first. If the boy really cared about the girl then she would have seen that in the beginning. He mentioned "a couple of months inconvenience" Really? Two months of pregnancy? He hit the doctor, carrying a gun could have really injured him and then kidnapped a minor all because of his belief system. To say whether she was willing or not to go with him she could have been afraid of him. I doubt that I would have ever chosen abortion, but I really despise all these self-righteous hypocrites, especially the religious ones.
I hope if she did have the baby she put it up for adoption. And where were the women to support her decision? All I saw was a bunch of male tyrants trying to impose their views.
