The 2006 version is actually the second iteration of Lordi's Would You Love a Monsterman?. The original was released several years earlier, with its first music video coming out in 2003. However, the 2006 version featured improved production quality, and as Lordi's international popularity was rapidly growing after their Eurovision win, it was the perfect opportunity to release a fresh video to meet the rising demand for their music.
One notable difference is that the girl featured in the 2003 video was much younger, which made it feel somewhat awkward for a masked adult man to be singing "Would you love a monsterman?" directly to her. That said, I've always found the original version to have a certain charm-it felt more like authentic horror, whereas the 2006 version was clearly more polished and strategically designed for a broader audience.
That's not to say the newer version is bad. On the contrary, it reflects the band's evolution and the era of their career it represents. The 2006 music video plays out like a mini horror story set to a rock anthem: a terrifying and deadly night unfolds in a mortuary. The dead rise, monsters invade, and the girl working there ultimately comes face-to-face with the devil himself.
