    Hilariously Gruesome!!!

I've seen this movie about 3 times, 2 by myself and 1 with my friend and he also loved it! The kills are super well done, the story is amazing, and the jokes in this film legitimately made me and my friend laugh our asses off! Aaron Prager does a magnificent job portraying the main character, his mannerisms and his line delivery is just perfect. All of the actors did an amazing job! If you love blood, gore, and cannibal jokes, then this film is for you!

The way the film ends could totally lead to a sequel, and I would honestly love one! And I know that the people behind the film would love to film a sequel to this.

A disappointing if still enjoyable genre mixture

Trying to make a living, a wannabe stand-up comedian who kills customers to serve in roadside meatball sandwiches finds a potential victim might be the perfect protege who could help his flourishing comedy routines, but when he gets popular an upstart might bring his dark side out.

Overall, this was a fun if somewhat problematic genre effort. Where it works well is sticking to the absurdity of the situation, which provides a slew of generally fun moments throughout. The central setup involving the exploits of the killer who daydreams of being a so-called cannibal-based comedian who also abducts his victims, practices his set on them before killing them and serving them in a secret recipe for his roadside meatball sandwich for others gives this an appropriately goofy and cheesy tone. Having him be more concerned about his comedy career and forced to come to the abducted hostage to get pointers and advice about performing his silly brand of comedy is a generally fun idea that allows for plenty of fun not only from the stand-up routines capitalizing on his so-called cannibalism but also the kinds of outlandish scenarios provided in the course of this one. As well, when it gets to the slaughter, there's a lot of fun to be had when it goes for the actions of him being a serial killer taking out others on the side of the road. The opening attack on the lone woman through the desert is a fun way to get this started, much like the secondary sequence where he takes out the couple hanging around the sandwich stand and gets chased down before being slaughtered. Other scenes involving the brief bits of the victims coming to the compound only to get knocked off incredibly gruesomely and graphically in short bursts provide more bloodshed than just the few previous instances of chasing down victims. That also leads into the big sequence where the figure who's been upending his career is captured and tormented by the killer who looks to finally prove the content of his comedy is real and manages to offer a twisted take on the style, holding this one up rather nicely. The film does have some big issues holding it back. The main drawback is the outright terrible decision to devote nearly the entirety of the second half here to go in-depth on the stand-up comedy routines he tries out, which renders quite a bit of the film into excruciatingly overlong sequences showing the guy showing up and performing tasteless jokes about eating people. This makes for a rather tough time understanding what's so scary or chilling about what's going on with the whole thing evolving into relentless bits showing his comedy sets instead of kills, so it's rather difficult to get into this one if the jokes themselves don't work for you. With very little about how the twist comes off due to spending so little time on this section of the film in favor of the endless stand-up routines instead, these factors do hold this one back somewhat.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language, and Brief Nudity.

One of The Best Independent Comedy/Horror Films of the Year!!!

I was fortunate enough to see this film at a film festival before it was released, and WOW!! I was so impressed by the quality of this film! The storyline, writing, acting, and cinematography are all excellent. It's rare to find an independent film of this caliber; not to mention, a Comedy/Horror that perfectly meets the expectations of both genres. The quality of the film, in every aspect, makes it feel like something you'd expect from a high-level studio like Blumhouse, IFC Midnight, or A24. I was blown away! I have no doubt that this film will be a cult classic. If you love films in the horror genre-independent or large studio-you'll dig this movie! Can't wait to see what Director Sean Haitz and this team produce next!

Would be down for a second helping

Cannibal Comedian is a wild, blood-soaked thrill ride that blends razor-sharp comedy with gut-wrenching horror in a way that few films dare to attempt and even fewer succeed at. This film is a must-watch for fans of both genres, delivering gruesome practical effects and side-splitting humor in equal measure.

At the heart of the story is Charlie, a weary cannibal who's grown tired of his life of flesh-eating and decides to chase his dream of becoming a stand-up comedian. The concept alone is brilliantly absurd, but Cannibal Comedian takes it to the next level with clever writing and an inspired performance that makes Charlie both terrifying and oddly relatable. His journey to comedic stardom is anything but smooth, especially with club owner Carrey constantly stealing jokes and standing in his way. Their rivalry is both hilarious and intense, leading to moments of darkly comedic tension that will keep you glued to the screen.

What really sets this film apart are the spectacular special effects. The gore is top-tier, offering the kind of practical effects horror fans crave-gruesome, detailed, and executed with love for the genre. But instead of being purely grotesque, the violence often comes with a punchline, creating a uniquely entertaining experience where you're laughing one second and gasping the next.

The director, Sean Haitz, masterfully balances horror and comedy, making Cannibal Comedian a standout film that delivers thrills, chills, and plenty of laughs.

    Nah, not that great...

Stumbling upon the 2023 horror comedy "Cannibal Comedian" here in 2025, and with it being a movie that I had not already seen or actually heard about, of course I opted to watch it, as I am a fan of all things horror. And I will say that the synopsis for the movie definitely made it sound like an interesting movie.

Writers Sean Haitz and Stephen Ward put together a fair enough script and storyline, which made for a watchable movie. It was an entertaining enough movie, though it was not a particularly outstanding or memorable movie in my opinion. There just simply wasn't enough contents to the storyline to make it a noteworthy movie. The movie suffers from the pacing and the construction of the narrative. It was generally lacking forward thrust and the red thread was sort of difficult to find.

I was not familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, and that is actually a good thing, as it is something I enjoy when I sit down to watch a movie. And I will say that the acting performances in "Cannibal Comedian" were good.

The special effects in the movie were good, and they definitely helped spruce up the movie nicely. And there were enough blood and gore to keep an old gorehound such as myself happy.

Watchable, for sure, but this movie doesn't warrant more than a single viewing.

My rating of director Sean Haitz's 2023 horror comedy "Cannibal Comedian" lands on a four out of ten stars.
