The actress recently confessed that the legendary British star had a near-death experience during filming when he fell into an unmarked stage pit. Talk about a plot twist no one saw coming!

Sharing the wild moment on the About Last Night podcast, Sandra explained that a bright light was shining on Caine when he suddenly vanished—straight into the abyss. “He could’ve sued us, but he didn’t,” she admitted, still marveling at his grace under pressure. The crew freaked out, of course, but the ever-classy Caine brushed it off like a pro.

How did he bounce back? Quite literally. Sandra called him “a beast” who recovered so fast it was almost supernatural. Fun fact: acupuncturists on set “jumped on him” and left him feeling “bright as rain.

Four-time Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan is back in the Best Actress race this year with “The Outrun,” an addiction drama from director Nora Fingscheidt (“The Unforgivable”). The film will soon be coming to a theater near you, as Sony Pictures Classics has picked it up for distribution and given it a fall release date in partnership with Stage 6 Films.

“The Outrun” is based on a memoir by Amy Liptrot, who co-wrote the screenplay with Fingscheidt. Ronan plays Rona, a young Scottish woman who gets out of rehab for alcoholism and returns home to the remote Orkney Islands resolving to deal with her addiction once and for all. The cast includes Paapa Essiedu, Nabil Elouahabi, Stephen Dillane, and Saskia Reeves.

Tom Guiry, who played Smalls in The Sandlot, was arrested and charged with assault, disorderly conduct, and malicious damage after allegedly throwing a dumbbell into the windshield of a neighbor’s Jeep, according to TMZ. He also allegedly approached the neighbor’s doorbell while holding a knife. The incident occurred on June 2nd, 2024.

Guiry was previously arrested in 2013 at a Houston airport after allegedly head-butting a police officer after being told he was too intoxicated to board a flight.

Guiry’s last on-screen credit came in the 2021 film The Unforgivable starring Sandra Bullock.

A sequel to 1998 fantasy drama Practical Magic is in the works, with stars Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock in talks to return.

According to Deadline, Bullock and Kidman are in talks to reprise their roles for a sequel to the 1998 fantasy, Practical Magic. Akiva Goldsman will return to write the script. Alice Hoffman, who wrote the original novel in 1995, also published a sequel called The Book Of Magic in 2021.

It hasn’t been confirmed if Goldsman is adapting the novel or working on a new story. There is currently no director attached. Bullock and Kidman will also produce alongside the original film’s producer Denise Di Novi.

Exclusive: Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham and The Nightingale‘s Aisling Franciosi have joined the cast of Three Point Capital and David Permut Production’s movie Twinless. They will star opposite previously announced Dylan O’Brien and James Sweeney.

Sweeney is also writing and directing the pic which follows two young men who meet in a twin bereavement support group, and form an unlikely bromance.

O’Brien and Miky Lee are EPs. Alex Astrachan, Director of Development at Permut Presentations is co-producer. Republic Pictures has worldwide rights to the film.

The Hollywood Reporter announced that Eat the Cat’s Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund are set to produce the project, while a script is currently in the works by Hillary Seitz. Seitz previously wrote Christopher Nolan’s 2002 film Insomnia, Eagle Eye in 2008, and 2021’s The Unforgivable.

The forthcoming Netflix Western adds six cast members to its roster today, with Lucas Till, Diana Silvers, Lamar Johnson, Aisling Franciosi, and Natalia del Riego.

“The Outrun,” the adaptation of Amy Liptrot’s deeply raw and lyrical 2016 memoir about addiction, recovery and nature, premiered in Sundance this year to stellar reviews, with many awards prophets already suggesting that the film could take Saoirse Ronan — who stars in and produces the film — back to the Oscars in 2025.

For producer Sarah Brocklehurst, the Sundance premiere also marked something of an enjoyable full circle, landing almost five years to the day after the Sundance 2019 debut of “Animals.” The film, which screens at the Berlin Film Festival, also marks the first feature from her Brock Media banner.

May Borgstrom’s thriller Spirit In The Blood, previously known as Desire Of The Prey, which features a cast of Canadian newcomers Summer H. Howell (pictured) and Sarah-Maxine Racicot, alongside German actor Michael Wittenborn and Canadian Greg Bryk.

After a young girl is found dead in a secluded religious mountain community, a pack of teenage girls decide to fight against the evil spirits they believe killed her by embracing their own dark nature.

The Germany-Canada co-production is produced by Hamburg based Verena Gräfe-Höft for Junafilm, and Noah Segal for Elevation Pictures.

“The Dead Don’t Hurt,” the Viggo Mortensen-directed Western in which the three-time Oscar nominee stars alongside Vicky Krieps, has landed a number of international sales for HanWay Films.

Newly confirmed territory deals for the film — a Talipot Studio, Recorded Picture and Perceval Pictures production — include France (Metropolitan), Spain (Wanda & Elastica), Scandinavia (Scanbox), U.K. (Signature), Benelux (Imagine), Poland (Galapagos), Middle East (Front Row), Singapore (Shaw) and Airlines/Ships (Cinesky).

Nora Fingscheidt’s The Outrun, a Scotland-set drama starring Saoirse Ronan, will have its world premiere at the 2024 Berlin International Film Festival, screening in Berlin’s Panorama section.

Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos again explained his company’s stance on prioritizing streaming-first releases in lieu of conventional theatrical windows. “People keep asking me, ‘Why don’t you do things like everyone else does?'” he said while speaking at Bloomberg Screentime conference in Los Angeles on Thursday. “Then I look at the financial results and say ‘Oh, maybe this isn’t what other people want.”

Netflix seems to be tired of people asking, “What is a Netflix show?”

In a letter to shareholders Wednesday, it attempted an answer. What it came up with is that a hit Netflix show is, well, a hit Netflix show. You know, like, “Beef, “Queen Charlotte,” “Love Is Blind” or “The Night Agent” — any show that “super-serves the audience,” as the company put it.

Tautologies aside, it might have a point. Viewers tuned in, and subscribers paid up, to the tune of 5.9 million net new additions in the June quarter. Whether that was because Netflix started cracking down on password sharing in earnest or because its popular shows were popular, Netflix has reached a critical mass that transcends tentpoles, franchises and familiar brands.

According to a press release, the organization that hands out Oscars each year at the Academy Awards has extended invitations to join the Academy to 398 artists and executives who have made notable contributions to the motion picture industry.

“The Academy is proud to welcome these artists and professionals into our membership. They represent extraordinary global talent across cinematic disciplines and have made a vital impact on the arts and sciences of motion pictures and on movie fans worldwide,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang in a joint statement.

There are some big names and familiar faces among the invitees, including musicians Taylor Swift and David Byrne, and numerous actors, ranging from Selma Blair to Keke Palmer to “Elvis” Oscar nominee Austin Butler.

Netflix announced the news on Tuesday, along with the release of viewership numbers for the week of May 29 to June 4. “The Mother,” which has streamed for four weeks after premiering on Netflix May 12, has now been watched for a total of 229.30 million total hours by Netflix subscribers. That’s enough to place it between “Extraction” (231.340 million hours) and “Purple Hearts” (228.69 million hours) on the all-time list, and bump “The Irishman,” which peaked at 214.57 million hours viewed after its first 28 days on the streamer, from the list.

Jennifer Lopez’s “The Mother” has cracked Netflix’s top 10 most popular movies list of all time with 229.3 million total hours viewed in just under a month since its release.

Entering the most popular English films list at No. 8, the action-thriller drew in an additional 16.48 million hours watched this week and is currently tracking at 117 million views. On the most popular English films list, “Red Notice” and “Don’t Look Up” are currently in the No. 1 and No. 2 spot, respectively, while “Purple Hearts” and “The Unforgivable” fall behind “The Mother” in the ninth and tenth spots, respectively.

“The Mother” is also continuing its reign on this week’s most-watched English films list in the No. 1 spot, with “The Boss Baby” coming in at the second spot and “Missing” coming in at the third spot.

Ted Sorrandoes was asked point-blank in Tuesday’s quarterly earnings call about resisting Netflix’s current reluctance to give their films conventional theatrical releases, a stance that has now put the company at odds with most of their streaming competition. The short answer: Don’t stop a horse in mid-stream.

“The film division is doing great,” stated Sarandos. “They really are building out some great films.
