The Streamable’s experts rank the top shows currently available to stream today.
Just about everything in the television and entertainment industries has changed in the past five to 10 years. Not too long ago, the month of September was focused almost exclusively on the return of football and the launch of a new, robust slate of TV shows. However, as cord-cutting rapidly decreased the number of Americans watching television in traditional ways, the release calendar has shifted. So while there are still a number of new and returning shows premiering on broadcast channels during the back half of the month, it is nowhere near the numbers of decades past.
Many of the best titles on TV have migrated from networks and cable channels to streaming in recent years, but with the non-standard release schedules, it can be tough to keep up with what is airing where and when, and which shows are actually worth watching.

The following contains spoilers for Adolescence, now streaming on Netflix.
Adolescence offers audiences no escape routes. This unflinching original from Netflix is a reality check some will find hard to face and harder to forget. It explores the cultural impact of social media with uncompromising honesty, daring to tackle taboo subjects head-on. Creators Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham have caused nothing short of a seismic shift in small-screen drama with this show and achieved it all in four episodes. With newcomer Owen Cooper, they have also discovered a potential movie star in the making, who provides this series with one of many emotional centers.
Early in the morning, an invasive camera follows first responders as they arrest a teenager. In that first technical flourish, director Philip Barantini employs the same single-shot technique he used on Boiling Point. A collaboration with Stephen Graham that revolved around catering and added an immediacy to that cutting-edge melodrama.

Stephen Graham’s Adolescence delivers wake-up call on raising teenagers(Photo Credit –YouTube)
Stephen Graham had never shied away from hard-hitting roles, but his latest project, Adolescence, struck a nerve far beyond the screen. The gripping drama, which landed on Netflix on March 13, saw him fill the boots of every parent’s worst nightmare, a father whose teenage son stood accused of murdering a classmate.
However, beyond the series itself, Graham had a stark message for parents and urged them to open their eyes to the hidden dangers shaping their children’s lives.

Peaky Blinders star Stephen Graham's hard-hitting Netflix crime drama is dominating the streaming service's TV charts. Known for his role as union convenor Hayden Stagg in the beloved BBC period crime drama, the actor made his guest star debut in season 5 before being promoted to the main cast in the sixth and final season. Graham is also known for his appearances in blockbuster franchises, including Pirates of the Caribbean as Scrum, and Venom as symbiote host Patrick Mulligan.
While Graham's career has taken him through the fantasy, sci-fi, and musical genres, he is largely known for his roles in grounded content on television and the big screen. Stephen Graham is rightfully receiving rave reviews for co-creating and starring in "Adolescence," itself perhaps one of the best Netflix Originals ever made. For Graham, however, outstanding work isn't anything new. While "Adolescence" may've formally put his name on the map, a quick search through his back catalog reveals the star has consistently delivered top-tier performances over the past 20 years.
Having proven himself a true chameleon with the monsters and tortured men he's brought to life over the years, Graham has collaborated with some of the most influential filmmakers and stars in movie history, including Daniel Day-Lewis, Brad Pitt (whose production company Plan B Entertainment helped get "Adolescence" off the ground), and Martin Scorsese. So, where do you begin with a talent like that? And what Graham projects merit should you check out after witnessing what might be his career-best turn in "Adolescence" (where he plays the heartbroken and deeply troubled father Eddie Miller)?

"Adolescence," the chilling Netflix limited series filmed in one-take, is one of the best things to come from the streamer in years. It's strange to think the platform could simultaneously release something as revelatory as "Adolescence" at the same time it aids the Russo brothers in their crusade to devalue the currency of moviemaking itself with the slick yet empty "The Electric State." Yet, here we are with one of the best shows ever to hit streaming and arguably one of the very worst films on the same platform.
If you've yet to catch the unmissable series, "Adolescence" follows a young boy named Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper) who's arrested for the murder of a classmate. The show also stars the always-brilliant Stephen Graham as Jamie's dad, Eddie Miller, and Ashley Walters as Detective Inspector Luke Bascombe, the officer in charge of the case. It landed on Netflix on Thursday 13 March, and the world hasn’t stopped talking about it since. Adolescence, the four-part drama co-created by Stephen Graham and Help writer Jack Thorne, is a harrowing look at male rage and teenage knife crime, following 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper) as he’s arrested for murder and the aftermath that ripples through his school and home. The writing is gripping, the acting is astounding – but the thing that’s had viewers around the world in awe of this show is the fact that each episode is filmed in one single, continuous take. No cuts, no CGI blending shots together – just one camera, following multiple actors around multiple sets, for a whole hour at a time.
The series comes after Graham and director Philip Barantini’s one-take movie Boiling Point, which focused on a highly-strung chef during one particularly stressful night at an upmarket restaurant.

If you loved the intense, immersive experience of Netflix’s Adolescence, where the camera follows the characters without cutting away, you’re in for a treat. Some filmmakers have taken on the daunting challenge of crafting an entire movie in a single, unbroken shot, creating a unique sense of intimacy and urgency. Achieving a one-shot film is no small feat—it demands meticulous planning, exhaustive rehearsals, and absolute coordination between the cast and crew. Directors and cinematographers often spend months strategizing every movement, ensuring that the choreography of the camera, actors, and environment flows seamlessly. When done right, this technique blurs the line between fiction and reality, pulling viewers deeper into the narrative and making every second count. Here are some of the most impressive one-shot movies that push the boundaries of filmmaking.

All it takes is a knock at the door for lives to be changed forever. In the case of "Adolescence," the new hit limited series from Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, it's not so much a knock as it is the blast of a battering ram. A seemingly traditional family in Northern England receives the awakening of a lifetime when their home is raided at the start of their day. Guns drawn and confusion ablaze, the onus for the surprise visit transpires on account of 13 year-old Jamie (Owen Cooper), as he's been accused of brutally murdering his classmate Katie (Emilia Holliday).
Jamie is taken into custody while his father Eddie (Steven Graham) assures him that everything's going to be okay and will meet him at the station. But rather than cutting to an interrogation room, "Adolescence" holds on Jamie's panic throughout the entire booking process in real time.

Every now and then, a miniseries will drop on streaming and make the entire world pause. This is Adolescence, a raw, gripping drama about the arrest of a 13-year-old boy for the murder of a female classmate. Reuniting Philip Barantini and Stephen Graham after their 2021 film Boiling Point, Adolescence is yet another showcase of the one-take filming technique that so often proves impressive. Already sporting a 100% critical score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Adolescence has shot to the top of many people's 'must-watch' lists, thanks in no small part to incredible word-of-mouth, with some calling it the best miniseries released in years.

Several elements of “Adolescence” are remarkable, from Philip Barantini’s direction to the young Owen Cooper’s charged acting. But we finally have an answer to one of the puzzling details of this Netflix original: How did the limited series capture its drone shot at the end of Episode 2?
One of details that makes “Adolescence” so extraordinary is its camera work. Each of the series’ four hourlong episodes is a oner, meaning it was filmed in one shot with no breaks for editing. It’s a style of filmmaking that Barantini, who’s known for his work on the movie “Boiling Point,” has mastered. But the Stephen Graham-starring series doesn’t just use its one-shots as a cheap gimmick. Every minute the show progresses without cutting away from its cast, the tension of this high-stakes story racketing up another degree. So incorporating a drone shot into the mix is extra impressive.

Netflix doesn't always get it right with their original programming - no streaming service does - but when they do, wow. Their most recent hit series is the latest example of how often the streamer gets it right.
Adolescence just debuted this past week on Netflix and immediately shot to the number one ranking among their shows. The four-part limited series is a critical hit, earning a rare 100 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That's not quite as impressive as it sounds, as you'll see.
As we've explained a few times before, that 100 score doesn't mean that every critic gave it the maximum possible rating on a scale of 0-100. It does mean that 100 percent of the critics surveyed recommend the show. In this case, almost every critic did give it their top rating. And this series deserves every bit of praise it's received

The final scene of the Netflix series “Adolescence” has left viewers feeling emotionally delicate and even raw — and it turns out there’s a good reason for that.
The series is particularly harrowing. A teen boy (played by Owen Cooper), has been accused of stabbing a female classmate to death. It quickly becomes clear the boy is guilty of the crime, and the series explores the impact of incel culture on the youth.
When it came time to film the show’s final scene, which shows the boy’s father weeping in his son’s childhood bedroom and apologizing to one of his stuffed animals, the show’s team knew they wanted the maximize the intense emotions present.
“We knew that we wanted to end it in that room. We wanted the journey to finish where it began,” director Stephen Graham, who also plays the boy’s dad, told Netflix.

It’s tempting for the technical story behind “Adolescence” to overshadow the themes at the center of the Netflix original. After all, this is a series composed of four hourlong one-shot episodes. But even though it was director Philip Barantini’s expertise with the oner that sparked the conversation that would lead to “Adolescence,” this directorial triumph was only utilized to highlight the tense story at the center of this limited series.

Adolescence episode 4 picks up with Jamie’s family a year after the shocking murder, but it’s hard to move on. Here’s our review.
How do you get over your son being accused of a particularly cruel murder? 13 months after Jamie Miller was arrested on suspicion of the murder of a girl in his class, the Millers are trying to get on with their lives. It’s Eddie’s (Stephen Graham) birthday and his wife Manda (Christine Tremarco) is preparing him a proper birthday fry up, black pudding and all.
For a minute there, you might think nothing was wrong, that Jamie’s crime was just a distant memory. Hey, maybe they even cleared him of the charges – maybe it was just a misunderstanding. Reality hits soon enough, as Eddie’s van is found vandalised outside on the driveway. The word “Nonse” is painted on the side of the van,...

Stephen Graham plays the father of a teenager suspected of a brutal murder in the latest Netflix TV show from Philip Barantini. Here’s our review of Adolescence episode 1.
Early mornings are sacred. They’re meant for getting ready for the day in peace and quiet, preparing for whatever the day holds. And coffee, lots and lots of coffee. So imagine the police forcing their way into your house just after 6am and taking your son on suspicion of murder.
This is exactly the situation Eddie Miller (Stephen Graham) finds himself in during the first episode of Adolescence. His son Jamie (a superb Owen Cooper) is suspected of murdering a local girl the night before, but the lad swears he didn’t do it. In the first episode of Netflix’s new drama, we follow not just Eddie or Jamie through the episode but the arresting detective Bascombe (Ashley Walters) as Jamie is taken away.

“There’s an epidemic of knife crime amongst young, young lads … up and down the country.” That’s how British star Stephen Graham (Bodies, Boiling Point) describes the origins of the idea for his Netflix crime drama Adolescence, which premieres on Thursday, during a recent Next on Netflix event in London. Creator Steven Knight has something new to share in the form of A Thousand Blows. A dramatic expose of Victorian London circa 1880, featuring BAFTA-nominated actor Stephen Graham, alongside Malachi Kirby and Erin Doherty. This time the action is not based in Birmingham with the likes of Tommy Shelby but looks further south to London and Henry ‘Sugar’ Goodson. Bare-knuckle boxer, East London legend, and a man on the cusp of cultural change. Out on Hulu and already confirmed for Season 2, A Thousand Blows looks set to cement Steven Knight’s reputation as an international dramatist.
With sets that bring a real slice of Victorian London to life, Steven Knight runs with the idea Boiling Point’s Stephen Graham brought to him. Combining other elements, including Mary Carr and the 40 Elephants, which had been on the writer’s back burner for some time, he evokes this world with his words. When...

After telling the story of the 2021 film Boiling Point with just one shot, director Philip Barantini and actor Stephen Graham have pulled off the same feat four times over in the limited series Adolescence. The Netflix production, debuting Thursday, March 13, follows the story of a 13-year-old accused of the murder of a classmate while the boy’s family, his therapist, and a detective try to determine what happened. As he did with Boiling Point, Barantini filmed each of Adolescence’s four episodes in one continuous take. “Personally, I find myself watching things, and it could be brilliant, but I’ve got one eye on my phone, so you have to really grab me,” Barantini explained to Radio Times. “I think what the one-shot does is makes you sit up, and you can’t take your eyes off it because if you do blink for a second, you miss something. It draws the audience in.

It goes without saying that The Lord of the Ringstrilogy changed the lives of everyone involved. Director Peter Jackson went on to direct and produce some of the biggest blockbusters of the 2010s. Stars like Orlando Bloom went to equally big things, like the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy: the second-most popular film trilogy of the 2000s after Jackson's adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy epic. Others, like Viggo Mortensen, starred in smaller but much darker films.
To be more specific, the actor who an entire generation associates with the heroic and noble Aragorn took on the role of a brutal gangster in Eastern Promises four years after The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King brought the battle of Middle-Earth to an end. While Eastern Promises was far from Mortensen's first dark and violent role, it was one of the first times he led such a film.

The ultimate sign of television’s arrival as a cinematic art form may be the medium’s growing obsession with the oner — the uninterrupted single-shot technique that was long part of the visual language of big-screen auteurs.
A six-minute tracking shot was, along with the presence of Matthew McConaughey, the prestige calling card for the first season of True Detective. Shows as differently received as The Bear and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story have generated their peak buzz from whole episodes presented in a continuous take. Jeon Woo-Sung’s wild Korean thriller Bargain raised the bar even further by telling its story in six episodes, each shot to at least resemble a oner.
In the second episode of Apple’s upcoming Hollywood satire The Studio, appropriately titled “The Oner,” Seth Rogen’s studio exec says of one particularly technically ambitious shot, “The oner is the ultimate cinematic achievement.

Stephen Graham is continuing his one-shot TV prowess with filmmaker Philip Barantini — except this time, it’s for the small screen.
Graham reunites with his “Boiling Point” director Philip Barantini for yet another story told in one continuous shot. While “Boiling Point” was a BAFTA and BIFA-nominated feature, Graham and Barantini turn instead to four-part Netflix limited series “Adolescence” to film in real time.

The official synopsis reads: “‘Adolescence’ tells the story of how a family’s world is turned upside down when 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Cooper) is arrested for the murder of a teenage girl who goes to his school. Stephen Graham takes on the role of Jamie’s father and ‘appropriate adult,...

When it comes to British historical dramas, very few can be said to have matched the popularity attained by Peaky Blinders, so it’s understandable why fans were excited for series creator Steven Knight’s latest venture, A Thousand Blows. Set in the underworld of late 19th century London, the six-episode series focuses on the real-life all-female thieves gang, The Forty Elephants, and highlights the transition period of boxing. A Thousand Blows is engaging enough to keep its viewers hooked throughout, and aside from a solid script and the authentic recreation of historical settings, a colorful ensemble of characters proved to be the major reason behind that. With a second season already greenlit, there is a possibility of the series gaining a cult following in the near future, and the continuation of a proper arc of the players involved will be something to look forward to.

In the world of bare-knuckle boxing, A Thousand Blows is what it takes to survive. In this Hulu original, creator Steven Knight has carved 1880s Victorian London from the depths of his imagination and set conflicting forces against each other. Henry ‘Sugar’ Goodson fought to build a life for himself and his brother Treacle, cementing a reputation for them in the boxing ring of The Blue Coat Boy as an unstoppable force of nature. These unlicensed bouts soon set him on a collision course with Hezekiah Moscow, just off the boat into London from Jamica, looking to make his fortune.

How do you bring a different take on a crime series? You can approach it by bringing in a new theme, or themes, or you can bring new production elements that the audience isn’t able to see very often. The new, limited crime series (four parts) that will start airing on Netflix on March 13, Adolescence, is set to bring in both of those approaches.
The not-so-usual theme puts the viewers in the position of a parent who has to cope with the fact that his son is accused of murder, where quite a number of difficult questions have to be answered.
The new production element has not been done that often - each of the four episodes is filmed in a single, continuous shot. The idea is to present the events as if they are unfolding in real time, with both the family and the police trying to resolve...

You may know certified national treasure Stephen Graham from roles such as stressed-out chef Andy Jones in Boiling Point, struggling alcoholic Joseph or skinhead antagonist Combo from Shane Meadows’ The Virtues or This Is England, or murderous mobster Anthony ‘Tony Pro’ Provenzano in The Irishman. But chances are, you’ve never seen him in a role quite like his latest: Henry ‘Sugar’ Goodson, a fearsome bare-knuckle fighter from Peaky Blinders writer Steven Knight’s new Victorian-era boxing drama series, A Thousand Blows. Producing an independent film is a challenge at the best of times: Beirut-based producer Georges Schoucair has shot two tightly financed indie features and helped launch a new arthouse cinema this year against the backdrop of war.
The veteran Lebanese producer, whose credits include Memory Box and Costa Brava, Lebanon, has been at the Red Sea Film Festival this past week as a member of the in-development jury for its Red Sea Souk project market.
He arrived from Morocco’s Marrakech Film Festival, where he had been participating in its Atlas Workshops project market with Cyril Aris’ It’s A Sad And Beautiful World, where it won a €10,000 post-production prize.
Mixing social drama and romantic comedy, the film follows an unlikely couple over three decades as they fall in love against the odds and then confront the challenges of parenthood against the backdrop of conflict and crisis-ridden Beirut, amid disputes...
