Legit avoids mistakes of The Office and The Royle Family

A few comments on here have suggested that this could have run for years. While it is sad it hasn't, perhaps it is also a blessing. let me explain.....

The first series of The Office & Royle Family were huge hits. Critics and fans latched onto the characters' personalities and they became part of our daily lives. When the second series came around, the main characters became caricatures based on those personalities and went totally off course. There are glaring inconsistencies between the first and second series of both comedies, a couple of examples being:

    • David Brent was portrayed as a bungling incompetent in Series 2 of The Office, yet in Series 1 he was personally selected to become a board member by the company's directors.

    • In The Royle Family, Jim Royle was portrayed as a lazy sod who didn't get out of his armchair, yet in series 1 he was working overtime to pay for Denise's wedding.

There are others, but I digress...

Perhaps Messrs Florence & Connell have done the Legit characters a favour by leaving it at one series. As most will know, the writers have gone on to write and start in the excellent Burnistoun, which appears to now be their outlet for their undoubted talents.

Well done and thank you for this guys, hope you continue to achieve success in your own write (sic)

    Hilarious show

I don't know what the previous reviewer was talking about. This is the funniest Scottish show since Chewin the Fat ended. It's nothing like Max and Paddy - it's funny for a start! The last episode in particular was a scream. For what it's worth, my friends and I used to delay going out on a Friday night until we'd watched it. It's crammed full of jokes, but it's got a lot of meaningful stuff too. Lovely stuff about responsible parenting. As with any new sitcom, it takes a bit of time to warm to the characters, but by the time episode 3 came around, i was rooting for Fox, hoping he'd get back with his family. I genuinely believe that Legit has the potential to run and run for years, and it's so refreshing to see a Scottish sitcom that has non-Glaswegian voices. I have fingers crossed for a second series.

Loved this series, just wish they had made more episodes.

    Absolutely awful

Legit is a Scottish sitcom produced by The Comedy Unit, written by Robert Florence and Iain Connell. It is set in and around a market, where the main characters, Sammy Fox (Steven McNicoll) and Danny (Jordan Young) work. Fox has recently split up with his wife Kelly Ann and is living in a caravan in the back garden of Danny's mother, May (Clair Grogan). What follows is basically an attempt at a Glasgow version of "Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere", only with the jokes being replaced with the "Glesgae Banter". Only unlike the real thing none of the banter is funny. Frankly the only positive thing to say about it is at least it is not as bad as the Karen Dunbar Show.

Just goes to show that BBC Scotland will commission anything.

    Legit Was Excellent

I disagree with Mr Roberstons review of this programme.

Scotland has produced many fantastic comedy programs like Scotch and Wry, Rab C Nesbitt, Naked Video, Only An Excuse, Chewing The Fat, Still Game and now LEGIT. Personally I thought LEGIT was fantastic and definitely on a par with the others. Instead of being subjected to the usual modern day 'politically correct' student humour, LEGIT brought us the slapstick element which is sadly so often missing from todays TV. Slapstick humour will never die, unlike certain others of genre which are simply 'boring' and aimed at the student age group. LEGIT had some great 'true to life' patter and 'real' situations in it. It wasn't dependant on catchphrases either which I found was a refreshing change. Well done to Steve McNicoll, Jordan Young and everyone else involved. My favourite scene from the series has to be Andy Grays appearance in episode one. I still laugh when I think about it.

For me LEGIT is Only Fools and Horses meets Laurel and Hardy. Those ingredients simply cannot fail.
