surprisingly not too cheesy for a teen romcom

I rated this by comparison to other local teen romcoms. This movie didn't try too hard. It has fantasy/myth, but doesn't rub it in your face that gets annoying sometimes.

Like other romcoms, it has "kilig" scenes and a happy montage, but it didn't feel forced and unrealistic. Somehow, the whole thing actually fits the actors' age, also the target audiences'. It was grounded and very subtle.

Overall, Silly Red Shoes is a gem of a mainstream Filipino film.

    Fantasy and Family

Silly Red Shoes is the second movie of a new budding Director James Mayo after Ogie Alcasid's Kuya Wes. Director Mayo succeeded in giving his audiences the right mood in these two films. Silly Red Shoes anchors its story on a fairytale, mirroring the reality on the life of its lead star Ashley (Francine Diaz) and her old time classmate, Chuck (Kyle Echarri). It is also iwant's anniversary offering featuring the love teams of ABS CBN's " The Gold Squad"

The cinematography was breathtaking, it was useful to make you feel the culture and the vibes of the setting, and its fantasy mood! , however, for this movie it could have been adjusted for a more youthful feel, since teen stars were the lead and the majority of the target audience.

The story was very simple and direct to the point! Family stories like what has been depicted was not new but it was the performance of Mayor Herbert Bautista who made it beautiful. It was too palpable that Chuck and Ashley's love story took a back seat. It could have been more developed for the two teen actors a chance to promote their loveteam, as there were segments that are drudging and could have been used to move Chuck and Ashley's story forward.

Despite of it lacking climactic scenes, Silly Red Shoes is the right film for you if you want to step into the right amount of family stories and fantasy!

A Movie for Father's Day Special

Silly Red Shoes is a story based on a legend of Princess Lily, which live on its title "silly" legend, a twisted modern Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast combined. It radiates a tender feeling, a quest on something you thought you don't have or you can't but turns out you can and you have.

The story centers on familial love rather than teen romance, if it what you expected then it's certainly not. The main actors are good but they were overshadowed by the intensity of the roles of the supporting characters, I wished Chuck and Ashley were given a chance of a pivotal scene on their own. Chuck and Ashley's story is just a background. No hint of teen love and the interactions were too weak if not insignificant to give the actors a chance to show their on-screen partnership, by what's given to them you can loosely judge if they even have chemistry. The ending was also abrupt, the legend was justified but it lacks a closing scene on supposedly Ashley's shoes or feet redemption.

All in all its cinematography is the main savior, it's not a teen love story but story good enough for a Father's Day Special.

    A wholesome family movie

Let me start with the teaser. I love how catchy it is, it highlights the parts to look out for but does not give too much spoilers. The viewers are curious as to the mystery behind 'Ashley's alien feet', so it actually sparks everyones curiosity and imagination. Also, the song used is very pleasing to the ears (Kyle Echarri's Pangako- lets support OPM)

Now the storyline and characters, I admit it is a bit 'bitin' because i wanted more from Kyle and francine and the entire cast. You will love all the characters and feel sympathies for their individual struggles. You will also love Kyle and Francine's oozing and undeniable chemistry that you will feel kilig. (even my grandma cant stop gushing about these teens)

I love how the touch of fantasy-myth was added into the story. Also, it showcased the beauty of the locality where it was filmed and shoemaking industry here in the PH. The kilig scenes were not pilit and the comedic banats of the characters were spot on.

as for the main leads, Francine Diaz and Kyle Echarri. Wow!!! just Wow!! I already expected that Francine or popularly known as Cassie Mondragon, will pull this off and will blown us away with her acting prowess. What I didnt expect was kyle echarri's transformation. From Starmagic's resident Amboy to a son of a local shoemaker who drives a tricycle to deliver their products. he really pulled off, as according to him, his 'batang kalye' look. I didnt see in him the rich kid Kristoff Tejada in Kadenang ginto and he has really portrayed his role very well.

This is the perfect movie to watch with your family. It will teach you the importance of family and to be a more filial to your parents.

    Focused on the values!

I like how the movie focused on the cultural values versus the teen chick flick love story. It was age appropriate for the featured love team and highlighted the good about the teenagers today. I feel for Ashley, though she's longing for the love and support of family, she continues to love them and stay, she's broken inside but continues to be cheerful for her sisters. Chuck represents the teens that never give up, though his family gave up on their shoe business already, he was there tried to prove them that there is still hope. And as a son, you can be that image of hope for your family, for your parents.

This is a good break from movies or series that feature teenage violence, strained parent-children relationship, infidelity, and all other negative portrayal of a family. Highlighting on the positive is the way to go! Kudos to the people behind this film! Thank you for introducing us to Chuck and Ashley!
