Rock and Roll Nightmare aka Edge of Hell (1987)
Directed by: John Fasano

Cast: Jon Mikl Thor (John Triton), Jillian Peri (Lou Anne), Frank Dietz (Roger), David Lane (Max), Teresa Simpson (Randy)
Gateway films can take a horror aficionado down roads to a destination that resurrects memories of humble beginnings as a young horror fan. I found “Trick or Treat” on YouTube in its entirety a few weeks back, and nostalgia overpowered me to the point that I had to go down the rabbit hole of horror and hair metal to see how far it goes. “Trick of Treat” seems to be the one that everyone remembers, mainly because of Gene Simmons and Ozzy Osbourne making brief cameos, and Skippy from “Family Ties” sporting long hair, and dropping the “F” word from time to time. Stuff like that is downright unforgettable.

Director: Peter Berg; Screenwriter: Peter Berg; Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster, Eric Bana; Running time: 121 mins; Certificate: 15
The film title may give away a little too much for those not familiar with the true story of Marcus Luttrell, one of four Us Navy SEALs who were dangerously outnumbered on Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan during 2005. Mark Wahlberg stands firm as Luttrell and he also produced this version of events which, ultimately, celebrates the brotherhood of soldiers and hits hard, on a gut level.
Luttrell doesn't find himself truly alone for more than 20 minutes on screen. In fact, writer/director Peter Berg spends a surprisingly long time painting a portrait of life on the Us military base near Afghanistan's Kunar Province. The guys engage in locker-room banter between quieter moments of reflection as thoughts turn to home and the loved ones who are waiting for them there.

Welcome to the jungle for the real-life fun and games of a young chimp called Oscar, as captured by the team behind Disney documentaries Earth and African Cats. Narrated with anthropomorphic zeal by Tim Allen, it’s a wild, funny, and occasionally alarming adventure showing that survival is not only a tricky learning curve, but sometimes requires a bit of luck. High drama and sumptuous imagery makes it an eye-opening experience for all.

Peter Berg plays down another Friday Night Lights movie, and plays up a sequel to The Rundown, starring Dwayne Johnson.
Friday Night Lights is one of the finest American TV dramas of recent years, and one that we’ve championed on this site recently. Furthermore, the finale of the show was as perfect as fans could have hoped for, offering a sense of closure on the storylines as well as leaving you wanting more and offering a glimpse of what the future held for the characters.
The show spun out of a movie directed by Peter Berg, who also oversaw the TV series. And there have been rumours for some time about a film sequel that would be connected to the TV series. The cast have certainly indicated that they'd be interested, but it seems that it isn't the way that Peter Berg himself wants to go.

For some reason it's always been known as Welcome To The Jungle around this neck of the woods. According to director Peter Berg (and some of the dialogue, and the song over the end credits), however, the official title of his 2003 Dwayne Johnson-starring comedy action epic remains The Rundown. It wasn't a film that was greatly loved at the time, but has rightly picked up a fond following in the decade since its release, to the extent that Berg is often asked about a sequel. And hey, it turns out he's had another Rundown in the works for ages! The original, you'll recall, saw his Rockness playing bounty hunter Beck, sent to Brazil to run down Seann William Scott, encountering a hot love interest in Rosario Dawson, and getting on the wrong side of villainous local magnate Christopher Walken. Arnold Schwarzenegger had a brief cameo, and Ewen Bremner was in it too.

A decade after its release, filmmaker Peter Berg is developing a sequel to his action-comedy "The Rundown".
Also known as "Welcome to the Jungle" in other parts of the world, Dwayne Johnson played an aspiring chef and bounty hunter who is sent to Brazil to retrieve his employer's wayward son (Seann William Scott).
From the sounds of it Scott won't be back, instead we'll see Johnson's Beck character on a new case. Berg tells Collider:
"We just met with writers, so we're trying to do it. I really want to do it. I've talked to Dwayne. I have an actor in mind that I can't say that I want to work with Dwayne on it, and we want to do it."
Berg, who is doing promo rounds for his true story tale "Lone Survivor," also had sad news for fans of his "Friday Night Lights" series - there won't be...

All of a sudden it’s Van Damme every day. Damn. First there was that awesome Volvo commercial, then the release of a trailer for his goofy comedy “Welcome to the Jungle”, now the Muscles from Brussels offers up a look at a less goofy “Enemies Closer”. Check it out below, check it outers. The funny thing about this new trailer for director Peter Hyams’ “Enemies Closer” is that, even though Van Damme is the bad guy, the trailer is cut in a way that, if you didn’t already know he was a bad guy, you’d think he was the hero. (Okay, so a slightly unhinged looking hero.) I mean, he even gets his name as part of the tagline, for God’s sake! After a major shipment of drugs goes missing on the Us-Canadian border, forest ranger and former Navy Seal Henry is plunged into survival mode...

The most dangerous band in the world. It’s hard to imagine now just how much trouble five young “runaways” would inflict upon the International music scene in such a short space of time. Living for the moment and sometimes moments from living this band were the definition of flying too close to the sun. Guns N’ Roses exploded onto the music scene in 1987 with their debut album ‘Appetite for Destruction’ – mixing the raw attitude of Punk with the aggression and musical styling of anything between Jimi Hendrix, Queen and The Rolling Stones. In a few short summers the band had imploded, into a mixture of myth and mystery, before front man W. Axl Rose emerged at the turn of a new Millennium with a cryptic video about cleanliness and earning the nickname “the Howard Hughes of Rock N’ Roll”

I have a really bad feeling that Jcvd gets killed early on in Welcome to the Jungle but if he doesn't, this could be fun. Just picture it... Van Damme saving a bunch of wussy office employees from natural jungle predators and each other with nothing more than his bare hands... It could be great right?
Ok, probably not but hey, it's nice to see that Van Damme is doing more than epic splits for Volvo. Who knows, maybe he'll even turn up in a theatrical release in the coming months. He's certainly working on enough projects.
Welcome to the Jungle opens theatrically and will be available on VOD February 7th.

The final trailer for "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" is in, and tributes, they totally saved the best for last with this one ... even if it did launch during last night's fourth World Series game between the Red Sox and the Cardinals for whatever reason (welcome to an all-new brand of competition, sports fans).
In it, we finally get a glimpse at some of that jungle action the gamemakers director Francis Lawrence and his team have rustled up for movie two, and they weren't stingy with peeks at some of the arena's freakiest little tricks either.
So to celebrate all the newness this "Catching Fire" tease has to offer, we're breakin' down the top 5 Omg-iest moments.
If you don't already know that spoilers abound below, you have not been paying attention.

Breaking Bad is over and what a finale it was, although it may have been predictable based on what we knew from the flash forward at the start of the season, it still didn’t disappoint and was full of stirring and thrilling moments. More importantly, now that this is over, Netflix crucially need to up their game.
Hansel and Gretel and Texas Chainsaw, two pretty dire entries from earlier this year, just are not going to cut it against Argo and The Perks of Being a Wallflower regardless of who did what at the box office. Netflix seem to have the monopoly on quality catalogue titles this week with some little seen gems with Permanent Midnight and Orange County but this means nothing to the public and mostly registers with nerds like me.
This isn’t a suggestion that the company is in trouble at all but consider what...

There's no denying that The Green Inferno director Eli Roth is a horror geek among horror geeks. He'd be the first to explain the different versions of Dawn of the Dead. He was the kid who bought Bloodsucking Freaks and Faces of Death when the other kids bought Halloween and Friday the 13th. And he's the one who knows the difference between Mountain of the Cannibal God (Sergio Martino, 1978), Cannibal Holocaust (Ruggero Deodato, 1980), and Cannibal Ferox (Umberto Lenzi, 1981).
So it should come as no surprise to anyone who knows their horror cinema that the director of Hostel has decided to pay homage to a very specific sub-genre: the "clueless idiots wander into the deep jungle" cannibal misadventure. Those who remember those sleazy non-classics with some degree of affection will certainly appreciate what Mr. Roth has cooked up in the foreboding jungles of Peru – although it's difficult to say if the shocking,...

Attending MTV VIMAs as an audience member is like dining at a buffet, not a sit-down dinner. You don’t get a full course meal. You get to sample many varieties. Below are some bite-sized observations I had while dwelling in the belly of the beast. During the commercial break, DJ Cassidy played a mash-up of Guns N' Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle" and Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit." With no rock artists performing on the Vma stage this year, it was the only sign of rock. The telecast does not show the audience enough. The majority of the audience was decked out with real extravagance. Even people in the nose-bleed seats dressed to impress. Before the envelope is opened and a winner is announced, MTV's camera crew sets up in front of the winner. So, if you follow the movement of the camera crew, you know the next winner ahead of time.

Amy Roloff has spent most of her life with husband Matt raising their kids and supporting his dreams about their farm. On the latest "Little People, Big World" special, "Breaking Down Walls," she decided that it was finally time for her to go back to work.
With just one child left in the home, she was ready to find something that was just for her. So she decided to pursue a career in education. Unfortunately, Matt wasn't very supportive of her plans. He'd rather she just work more on the farm.
“I just don’t think he understands or values some of my aspirations or dreams, because they’re not as big as his," she said in a confessional. "Or, what is that really going to contribute to our bank account?”
She went ahead and followed her heart, landing a job teaching a diversity course at an alternative school. Matt...

For Christmas this year one of the books I got was The Dresden Files graphic novel, Welcome to the Jungle. By that point, I’d read all of the novels; but what got me into them was actually the TV show. When the show came out back in 2007, I remember hearing vaguely about it via a friend’s blog or two, but I never actually saw it. Thanks to the wonder of Netflix, though, a couple of years ago I discovered and watched it on streaming video, and enjoyed it enough to want to see more – but sadly, it only ran for one short season of 12 episodes. Thus I went back to acquire and read all of the books as well; and now, of course, I want more. The TV show adaptation wasn’t perfect, but it had a lot of positives, the first three being Paul Blackthorne as Harry,...

Throughout time, there have been countless bands that have captivated us with their music. In the last half century, Rock n Roll has evolved from “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” to “Welcome to the Jungle” to whatever product this new wave of artists are trying to put out. Bands have changed the genre, and have set an influence for future generations of music. Punk Rock music was the sole reason I set out to play guitar and start my own band. Now, with all the success that the bands on this list have gained, in my eyes they had a chance to be something bigger than they were. These bands had the chance to take over the world the way The Beatles did, the way that U2 did in the eighties.
These are the bands that could’ve been first ballot Rock n Roll hall of famers, but because of circumstance,...

Our look back over The Rock's movie career continues with Welcome To The Jungle and Walking Tall...
One of the first things I ever wrote for Den of Geek was a review of Abel Ferrara’s King Of New York, a wonderfully scuzzy crime epic with Christopher Walken in the lead role. In that film, Walken gives us everything that makes him great – that off-kilter delivery, gesticulating body language, a calculatedly terrifying intelligence – and those things also play a part in how his performances become over-familiar, bordering on clichéd.
Walken playing Walken in every role has become Alex Ferguson securing another cup title, Dave Grohl howling unintelligibly live instead of singing his lyrics, Nick Hornby writing intelligently about music, and so on. We are in the domain of great men ploughing their greatness into the ground until it inevitably turns tiresome.
And yet Walken remains an unusual screen presence in mainstream Hollywood films,...

We learned in February that Guillermo del Toro signed on to produce an animated movie about the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead directed by Jorge R. Guiterrez. THR reports that Fox Animation has acquired the picture, now titled Book of Life, and plans to release it on October 10, 2014. Fox and the filmmakers aren't ready to release the full logline just yet, but we heard back in February that Book of Life tells "a Romeo and Juliet-style love story set against a Mexican Day of the Dead backdrop." Fox Animation has a decade-long partnership with Blue Sky Studios (the guys behind the Ice Age series) that will continue with Epic, Rio 2, and the Peanuts movie everyone wants. But their upcoming slate adds a few more in-house productions like Book of Life, Walking with Dinosaurs, and Welcome to the Jungle. More than any other form of art/entertainment, your first impression in music counts for a lot. If it’s at least half-decent, then you’ll more than likely get another shot. If it’s a dud, well, then it’s curtains for ya, sunshine.

Arnold Schwarzenegger makes his big return to the silver screen in The Expendables 2 this week. Having taken a hiatus for several years to pursue the small task of being the Governor of California, apart from a few cameos, the last time the former Mr Universe took a major role in a movie was in the 2003 sequel Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines. Since then Schwarzenegger fans have waited patiently for him to make a triumphant return and do what he does best, be an action star!
At the height of his movie career, all you needed to do was put Schwarzenegger on top of a movie poster and you knew what you was going to get. From Commando to Predator to Total Recall, you knew the explosions will be big and the body count high, in many ways he was a movie genre of his own. Even with the likes of Stallone,...

Ex-Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler has said he has no hard feelings over Axl Rose's decision not to attend the band's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Rose announced last week that he would skip Saturday's gala because he didn't feel "wanted or respected" by his former bandmates. The 'Welcome To The Jungle' singer also requested not to be inducted "in absentia". Guns N' Roses' Hall of Fame induction went on without the frontman in Cleveland, with Rose's name apparently drawing boos when he was mentioned during the ceremony. Adler, who drummed for Guns N' Roses from 1985 to 1990, spoke of Rose's absence with Rolling Stone following the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert. "All I have to say is I love Axl very much and I was blessed that... he was a part of my life," Adler (more)...

Cleveland — The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony didn't miss Axl Rose at all.
The rowdy celebration, which in past years has included awkward moments, touching tributes and unforgettable performances, rocked on without Rose, the Guns N' Roses frontman who may one day regret skipping a night when 6,000 fans, 1,400 guests and many of music's biggest stars partied in Public Hall with the class of 2012.
Hard rockers Guns N' Roses – minus Rose – headlined this year's eclectic group of inductees. Others being enshrined are the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Beastie Boys, folk icon Donovan, late singer-songwriter Laura Nyro and British bands the Small Faces and Faces.
Before the ceremony started with a blistering performance by Green Day, Chili Peppers lead singer Anthony Kiedis said it was strange to be enshrined while on tour.
"We're going somewhere," Kiedis said. "How can we stop and take an award when really we're just halfway there?...

Ex-Guns N' Roses rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin has said that he is grateful that the band will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The 'Welcome To The Jungle' band are to be saluted for their contributions to rock music at Cleveland's Public Hall tonight (April 14), but singer Axl Rose has announced that he won't attend. Rose penned a personal letter to Hall of Fame organizers this week to say that he will avoid an "awkward situation" by not appearing and also requested that he not be inducted "in absentia". Stradlin reacted to Rose's statement in a message posted by his former Guns N' Roses bandmate Duff McKagan on Seattle Weekly's website. "I have waited up to this point to see what would become of the Gnr induction into Rrhof," Stradlin wrote. "I would like to say (more)...

New York — The acrimony that helped dissolve Guns N' Roses nearly 20 years ago still lingers.
Axl Rose announced Wednesday that he won't be showing up to see the band inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and declined the honor for himself.
In a letter to the hall, band fans and "To Whom It May Concern," Rose listed several reasons for not attending Saturday's ceremony in Cleveland, including a feeling that the hall does not respect him.
In declining his own induction, he added: "I strongly request that I not be inducted in absentia and please know that no one is authorized nor may anyone be permitted to accept any induction for me or speak on my behalf."
The hall said in a statement that it still plans to induct Rose with the rest of the group. "We are sorry he will not be able to accept his induction in person,...

Guns N' Roses fans shouldn't hold their breath for a reunion of the original band members at this weekend's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. In an open letter released Wednesday the group's frontman Axl Rose says he doesn't plan to attend the ceremony in Cleveland and "I respectfully decline my induction as a member of Guns N' Roses to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame." Referring to the band's falling out in 1996, Rose, 50, says having the group inducted would be "somewhat of a complicated or awkward situation." He adds, "I strongly request that I not be inducted...

With Super Bowl Sunday fast approaching, it’s time to get a little NFL-centric.
The Super Bowl is not just about splendid TV spots for upcoming cinema releases, there is a game to be played too. Many of us on this side of the North Atlantic rather look down our noses at American Football. Some dismiss it as rugby for softies (the “too much padding” argument), others as too stop-start (the “not as fluid as proper football” argument), others as too convoluted (the “I don’t really understand what’s happening here” argument).
For what my opinion is worth (please don’t tell me how little that is, I really am quite delicate) I think American Football is hugely entertaining and easily comprehensible, but more than that, the intricate choreography of its set-piece plays is so much better suited to cinema than either rugby or normal football.
Disagree? Tell me...

Adam Brody is keeping himself busy as he books two more high-profile roles. Whether or not Adam Brody's heyday was his role on "The O.C." remains to be seen: According to Variety, the actor is reportedly starring in Neil Labute's film adaptation of "Some Girls" and the "Lord Of The Flies-like" movie "Welcome To The Jungle."
In "Some Girls," helmed by Jennifer Getzinger and co-written by Neil Labute, Brody will play a writer who meets up with four ex-girlfriends before getting married; while he'll be stranded on a tropical island with co-workers Kristen Schaal and Jean-Claude Van Damme in "Welcome To The Jungle."
Brody is also starring in this year's Linda Lovelace biopic "Lovelace" alongside Amanda Seyfriend and James Franco, filming the comedy "Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World" with Steve Carell and Keira Knightly, and voicing a southern California teenager in MTV's animated series "Good Vibes."
"I actually looked like [Woodie]" Brody tells The Huffington Post of his role in "Good Vibes.

[1] 2012 is already shaping up to be the biggest year yet of Adam Brody's post-oc career, as the actor books two more high-profile roles. One is Some Girls, a feature adaptation of Neil Labute's recent play about an almost-married man who travels across the country to visit his ex-girlfriends. [Update: The Hollywood Reporter [2] writes that Mad Men helmer Jennifer Getzinger will direct the drama.] But Brody's next project will likely be Rob Meltzer's Welcome to the Jungle, as that project will shoot next month in Puerto Rico. The story centers around a design firm that goes on retreat to a tropical island, only to become stranded and see Lord of the Flies-style chaos break out. Brody will play the protagonist, who must save his colleagues from a power-hungry leader. Brody's only one of a rather eclectic cast that also includes Rob Huebel, Dennis Haysbert, Kristen Schaal, and Jean-Claude Van Damme. Brody...

Jean-Claude Van Damme possesses a rare ability. The older he gets, the more badass he becomes. It doesn't matter if he's stabbing dozens of people every five seconds (thank you, Universal Soldier: Regeneration) or holding a puppy. The guy's just menacing. The good news? We're gonna see even more of him!
According to Variety, Adam Brody will be throwing down with '90s action star Jean-Claude Van Damme in a survival thriller shooting next month in Puerto Rico.
The duo will star in Rob Meltzer's Welcome to the Jungle, which follows a group of staffers at a design firm who go on an office retreat to a tropical island, where total chaos erupts after they become stranded. A "Lord of the Flies"-type situation unfolds, and Brody's character is forced to match wits with the power-hungry leader in order to rescue his co-workers.
Rob Huebel, Dennis Haysbert, and Kristen Schaal co-star.

I am an unabashed fan of The O.C., which is equivalent to being an Adam Brody supporter. His career never took off like we all expected after the Fox soap signed off the air 2007, but there's still time for the 32-year-old actor to flourish. The next couple years promises a flurry of Brody, including Damsels in Distress, The Oranges, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, and Lovelace. At least one of those ought to stick, but tonight we received word of two more starring vehicles for Brody: Some Girls and Welcome to the Jungle. Some Girls is a feature adaptation of the Neil Labute play bout a successful writer who meets with five ex-girlfriends before his wedding. Welcome to the Jungle also features Rob Huebel, Dennis Haysbert, Kristen Schaal, and Jean-Claude Van Damme(!) as a group of co-workers who go on an office retreat and end up stranded on a tropical island.

It looks like Seth Cohen from "The O.C." is all grown up.
Adam Brody will expand his horizons with two new movie gigs that couldn't be more different from each other: "Some Girls," an existential (and ultra-dark) romantic drama, and "Welcome to the Jungle," a hardcore "Lord of the Flies"-like tale of survival, according to Variety.
"Some Girls" follows a successful writer who, before he gets married, decides to travel across the country to meet his four ex-girlfriends in a series of hotel rooms. The film is based on the 2006 stage play by Neil Labute, which means every character is probably more or less miserable and everyone is going to do awful, hurtful things to one another at some point. Bring it!
