An idiotic film critic once compared the movies of John Ford to "cave paintings", since they don't show the sophistication of his contemporaries like Lubitsch and Wyler. In the case of the early movies of Howard Ziehm/Harry Hopper such as the fun SEEDS OF LUST this would be more of a compliment.
Nuclear family of five from Nebraska is wrapping up their vacation in L.A., and hit upon the idea of splitting up on their last day to each seek out a little adventure all their own. That's a clever premise for an episodic porn film -can't recall it being used over again.
Casting has pros transitioning from soft-core to the brand-new hardcore format as the parents, while the younger generation is played by one-shots. Gene Pierce as daddy Sam gives a wonderful performance that balances comedy with sexual prowess, as he hooks up with two big-breasted (and natural looking) hippie girls who give him a taste of that "free love" he's heard about.
His wife, played aristocratically by the under-utilized Ruth Knox, finds an aging Hollywood heart-throb Lionel Atwater who seduces the star-struck MILF. Typical of Ziehm's freewheeling comedy approach, their scene ends with him autographing a piece of paper stained with his cum, something to remember him by.
The son is picked up at the Farmer's Market by a guy smoking a pipe, but it turns out he wants him for a threesome with his wife. She's hot, resembling the sexy Canadian MAD MEN star Jessica Pare.
Blonde daughter Christy's adventure gives rise to the film's title. She's picked up by a guy in overalls named Jed, who sells pumpkins. Visiting his home, she is talked into undressing and then "wearing" a large pumpkin, prior to being deflowered by him. This is a comical version of a typical early porn theme of defiling innocence.
The older brunette daughter takes up with a Black girl promoting Gay Liberation, and she is introduced to lesbian sex, getting penetrated with a corn cob.
With a very corny twist ending, it's all presented with an innocence and naturalness that was quickly lost as porn became an industry rather than a lucrative protest against the Hollywood establishment. I highly recommend this forgotten title to any serious porn fan who's had it up to here with the same old actresses and actors appearing seemingly in every XXX film ever made.
