Twilight: Chapitre 1 - Fascination

David Dastmalchian, Ashley Greene Horror Thriller ‘The Cure’ Boarded by Vaneast Pictures for International Sales (Exclusive)
Image
“The Cure,” the upcoming horror thriller starring David Dastmalchian (“Late Night with the Devil”), Ashley Greene (“Twilight”), has been acquired by Vaneast Pictures.

The company — founded by Danielle Gasher — picked up international sales rights to the feature, directed by Nancy Leopardi, whose previous credits include “Nanny Cam” and “Lethal Seduction.”

Also starring Sydney Taylor (“Marked Men”) and Samantha Cochran in her feature film debut, the film centers on a 16-year-old adopted girl with a mysterious illness who discovers her biotech billionaire parents are harvesting her blood for sinister reasons. As the twisted experiments escalate, she must fight to escape before she’s drained of everything that makes her human.

“The Cure is a gripping and unnerving addition to the Vaneast slate. David Dastmalchian and Ashley Greene are magnetic in roles that crawl under your skin. We’re excited to screen the film for buyers at TIFF,” said Gasher.

“The Cure” is produced by Nancy Leopardi,...

War 2 Box Office Day 5 (Hindi) (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Siddharth Anand passed on the legacy to Ayan Mukerji in War 2, and it may not have been the best decision. Scroll below for a detailed day 5 update!

War 2 Box Office Collection Day 5 (Hindi)

Due to the lukewarm response, War 2 may soon wrap up its run in the Tamil and Telugu belt. On day 5, it earned 8.50 crores in all languages. Out of this, 7.50 crores were from the Hindi language alone, which means 88% of the total earnings.

Compared to the 29 crores earned on the opening day in the Hindi belt, War 2 earned almost 4X less on day 9. It has miserably failed the Monday test, leading to a stressful scenario at the box office.

Thama teaser featuring Ayushmann Khuranna and Rashmika Mandanna in a never-seen-before avatar is out now! Thama is the first love story in the Maddock Supernatural Universe, and the makers ensured it was clear from the beginning. 10 Best Rachel Brosnahan Movies & TV Shows, Ranked
Image
Witty and always prepared with a quip, Rachel Brosnahan has played a number of fierce, unconventional women over the course of her career. The Wisconsin-born actor made her film debut with the 2009 horror film "The Unborn," and since then, she's been a frequent face both in film and on television. Until recently, she's been best known for her Emmy-winning turn as Midge Maisel on "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," but to boil her down to just that is to ignore all of the great roles she'd had leading up to the Amazon Prime Video show that made her a star.

And of course, that doesn't include her recent foray into the world of superheroes in "Superman," where she played the indomitable Lois Lane to David Corenswet's Clark Kent. Rachel Brosnahan is a multi-faceted performer who's equally adept with comedy and drama (she's even starred in a few plays on Broadway...

Darren Aronofsky Tried to Stoke Rivalry Between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis On ‘Black Swan’ Set: ‘Was All in Good Fun’
Image
“Black Swan” returns to theaters on Aug. 21 and 24, playing in Imax for the first time to celebrate fifteen years since the psychological thriller first hit cinemas. Director Darren Aronofsky recently reunited with stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis to reflect on the film’s milestone anniversary for Vogue, and their discussion revealed that the director had tried and failed to stoke rivalry between the two stars to reflect their on-screen feud.

“My take is that I was trying to be a sneaky director and make them argue,” admitted Aronofsky, “Mila and Natalie both realized very quickly what I was doing and made fun of me, so it quickly became a joke that we all understood. They’re both very clever and were instantly privy to whatever trick I was playing.”

Aronofsky’s method was meant to help the actors get into character, as both play ballerinas in the film, competing...

Lurch, The Teenage Idol? Ted Cassidy Was the Breakout Hunk of ‘The Addams Family’
Image
Nobody’s ever claimed teenage girls have normal taste. From the first time some cave fuckboi with pouty lips smashed a rock, they’ve been into bizarre displays of masculinity. They also gravitate toward the supernatural for reasons that probably have to do with astrology and incredibly valid fears about real boys. Thus, we get entire generations of teenage girls obsessed with the sparkly geezers of Twilight, the current wave of monsterotica, and apparently, Ted Cassidy as Lurch in the mid-‘60s sitcom adaptation of The Addams Family.

The lust for Lurch first came to the attention of those on The Addams Family set when Cassidy began receiving a bizarre amount of fan mail from teenage girls. Now, when we say “bizarre,” that’s not to disparage Cassidy’s appearance; in fact, behind-the-scenes photos of Cassidy suggest he was actually pretty dreamy without all that makeup on. With flawlessly styled...

15 Years Ago, One Of The Most Unique Comic Book Movies Ever Was A Major Box Office Bummer
Image
(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)

"Taking the sensibility of Edgar Wright, before I even knew what he wanted to do with it, and applying it to that material, I knew in an instant that this could be quite a combustible combination." Those are the words of producer Marc Platt speaking on a making-of documentary attached to the "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" Blu-ray release. Naturally, the material he's talking about was the "Scott Pilgrim" comics by Bryan Lee O'Malley.

Wright was coming off of the success of his now-classic horror/comedy "Shaun of the Dead" and its follow-up, the brilliant cop comedy "Hot Fuzz." Both movies were decent hits that put Wright on Hollywood's radar in a big way. When Universal Pictures was looking to put together...

Saorise Ronan's Sci-Fi Movie 'The Host' Finds a New Streaming Home
Image
Saoirse Ronan gave a brilliant performance in her recent WWII feature, Blitz, where she played a mother looking for her son. The actor has a long and illustrious career and has given us some brilliant performances in Little Women, Lady Bird, Mary Queen of Scots, and many more. Among her filmography is a movie which is widely considered a better Twilight replacement, and it's heading to a new streamer.

The Host, based on Stephenie Meyer’s novel of the same name, is coming to Hulu this month. The movie, blending sci-fi with romance, is set in a world where parasitic aliens threaten mankind by taking over their bodies as a “host.” We follow Melanie Stryder (Ronan), who risks everything to protect the people she cares about the most. The movie was a box office dud, earning $63.3 million.

But there is a section of the audience that felt the Host was much better written,...

Dave Franco Reveals He Wasn't Ready For Twilight's Edward Cullen Role
Image
When Twilight hit theaters in 2008, it quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Based on Stephenie Meyer's best-selling novels, Twilight'ssubsequent five-film arc follows the love story between Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson)as they face various challenges, including Bella's mortality and the looming vampire threat of the Volturi facing the Cullen family.

The Twilight Saga earned over $3.3 billion at the global box office, yet its reception was divisive. While fans heavily praised the film, as evident by the first outing's 72% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes, critics gave generally negative reviews, with Twilight scoring a 48% Tomatometer. Furthermore, some actors like Robert Pattinson have shunned the role despite its commercial success.

That being said, the chemistry between Edward and Bella is the emotional core of the Twilight movies, helping drive the vampire franchise to global success. In fact, Pattinson's portrayal of Edward became so iconic that it's hard to...

Iconic ’80s Vampire Movie ‘The Lost Boys’ Is Now Streaming for Free
Image
The 80s were a great time for Hollywood movies, from slasher flicks to adventure and comedy to sci-fi every genre elevated the features with innovation in practical effects and unique protagonists. Which in turn gave us iconic films like Jurassic Park, Et, Blade Runner along with horror films like The Shining, Evil Dead II, The Fly, and many more. And one of these iconic horror movies is now available free to stream.

The Lost Boysis now available to stream on The Roku Channel. The movie is often dubbed the best vampire film from the decade. Directed by Joel Schumacher, the film is loved for its strong script, very unique characters, and humor that helps to dissolve the most intense situations. Schumacher’s visual aesthetic is slick, glossy, and appealing, much like the vampiric lifestyle we see now in the genre. While in contemporary times Twilight is considered to revive the YA vampire genre,...

Hayao Miyazaki Did Something with Robert Pattinson’s Acting Range That Even ‘The Batman’ Couldn’t
Image
Robert Pattinson’s best performance ever isn’t as Batman. It’s not even in live-action. It’s him going absolutely unhinged as a talking anime heron in Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron. Yeah, you read it right. Forget Gotham’s dark alleys and those glittery vampire woods. Miyazaki dragged Pattinson into his magical Studio Ghibli world and unlocked an acting range that even The Batman can’t compete with.

This isn’t some cutesy voiceover gig where Rob just shows up, reads lines, and grabs a check. Nope. Hayao Miyazaki had Pattinson go all out, into Aosagi, a sarcastic, slightly unhinged gray heron who’s part guide, part chaos gremlin, and somehow the most unforgettable character in the entire movie. While The Batman had everyone thinking, “Whoa, he’s more than Edward Cullen,” it’s this wild anime bird that really shows Robert Pattinson’s acting has no limits.

An Expert Ice-Cream Maker Attempts to Replicate Bobby’s Sauerkraut Ice Cream from ‘King of the Hill’
Image
Bobby Hill’s proclamation of “who’s ready for sauerkraut ice cream?!?!” at his Japanese-German fusion restaurant Robata Chane sparked smiles from his family, friends and foes alike in the new season of King of the Hill. But the reality of the dessert was probably more grin-and-bear-it than begging for seconds — not that it’s that odd on the surface.

“Sauerkraut definitely isn’t the most out-there ingredient I’ve used,” gastronomer and ice cream influencer Hannah Spiegelman of A Sweet History tells me.

Spiegelman, like Bobby, isn’t afraid to take culinary risks. She’s served scoops in a uranium glass in honor of Marie Curie. She’s embraced strong Midwestern flavors (to put it politely) in a Malört-infused “Chicago Float.” She’s even experimented with pork blood in a frozen homage to every ‘00s girl’s favorite movie, Twilight.

“Most of my flavors are inspired by historic places or people,...

The Undertone Review: Podcast Activity Summons A Haunting Paranormal Entity in Spooky Indie Horror [Fantasia 2025]

Steven Spielberg And A Twilight Zone Writer Teamed Up For An Underrated Sci-Fi Series
Image
Rockne S. O'Bannon's sci-fi series "seaQuest Dsv" was immensely popular for its all-too-brief, three-season run, airing from September 1993 through early June of 1996. Set in the far-off future of 2018, "seaQuest" followed the crew of a high-tech super-submarine called a Deep-Submergence Vehicle. The crew worked for an international research enclave called the United Earth Oceans Organization, at a time when earthbound resources were dwindling, and humanity could only survive by salvaging food and fuel from the ocean floors. The series frequently centered on biodiversity and ecological themes. It was slick and well-thought-out. It starred Roy Scheider as Captain Nathan Bridger, and Jonathan Brandis as hotshot teen Lucas. Frank Welker voiced the talking dolphin Darwin (able to speak via a high-tech translator).

The show became more fantastical in its second season, featuring fire-breathing worm monsters, time travel plots, and an ancient alien ship. The series didn't suffer in quality, but it certainly became sillier.

[This story contains spoilers for Netflix’s My Oxford Year.]

Audiences may have seen Sofia Carson fall in love onscreen in roles such as Netflix’s Purple Hearts and the Life List, but her new film is offering a revival of the traditional classic love story.

“There’s a certain level of escapism that comes with falling in love with a love story that is so beautiful to be able to offer that, and this one in particular just felt timeless,” Carson tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It felt like it had been a while since I had seen a classic and timeless love story brought to life for this generation.”

That love story is My Oxford Year, directed by Iain Morris and starring Carson (who also exec produce) and Queen Charlotte star Corey Mylchreest. The film, based on the 2018 book by Julia Wheelan, centers on Carson’s Anna, an ambitious young American woman who sets...

In 2003, Catherine Hardwicke’s (Twilight) directorial debut, Thirteen, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. The film starred Evan Rachel Wood as Tracy, a 13-year-old in Southern California who befriends the popular Evie (Nikki Reed) and begins dabbling in drugs, alcohol, and crime.

Co-written by Hardwicke and then-14-year-old Reed, based on the teen’s real-life experiences, the script was crafted in only six days. When the film was released, it was every parent’s nightmare and generated a ton of controversy because of the situations depicted in the film. However, it was well received by critics and garnered award nominations for Wood and Holly Hunter, who was nominated for an Oscar for her performance as Tracy’s mom, Melanie.

Stream it on Netflix now.

Tracy (Wood) is a mild-mannered, 13-year-old seventh grader who lives with her recovering alcoholic mother, Melanie (Hunter), and older brother, Mason (Corbet), in Los Angeles. Tracy hates her mother’s boyfriend,...

38 Years Ago Today, the Greatest Vampire Comedy of All Time Changed Hollywood Forever
Image
The Lost Boys premiered in 1987 and transformed the vampire genre forever! The cult classic, directed by the late Joel Schumacher, didn’t just tell a plain old horror story about vampires. Instead, it turned the undead into rock stars and showed us the chaos of being young and feeling invincible in the ‘80s.

The horror-comedy that exceeded everyone’s expectations and became a genre-defining film starred Jason Patric, Corey Haim, Kiefer Sutherland, and other amazing actors. The Lost Boys had that teen angst, supernatural horror, mullets, and comic book nerds that continue to echo through pop culture even decades later.

The Lost Boys Redefined Vampires as Cool, Funny, and Rebelliously Undead A still from The Lost Boys | Credits: Richard Donner Production

Before The Lost Boys came along, most vampire movies had stiff, brooding, and serious depictions of the creatures. But Joel Schumacher reimagined vampires with motorcycles, sunglasses, and rock ‘n’ roll vibes,...

‘Devil Wears Prada 2’ Set: Meet the Fans Waiting Hours in the Heat to Watch Meryl Streep Get In and Out of Cars
Image
Two middle-aged tourists walked up to the Dior store in midtown Manhattan, looking to browse the selection of luxury goods and maybe splurge while on vacation. Before they could enter, though, a no-nonsense woman holding a clipboard, stopped them in their tracks: “Sorry, the store is closed until next week.”

There was nothing online to indicate the store’s closure on this brutally hot Wednesday in July. And to be fair, the sidewalks of New York City are perpetually chaotic. But had the couple taken a look to the left — or just a gander across the street — they’d notice the crew members with walkie talkies, paparazzi with jumbo cameras, a video village set up nearby and a gaggle of black directors chairs, one of which was emblazoned with the name Andy.

All the fanfare was for “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” which has captivated the masses while filming around Manhattan.

The Pain of Silent Departures and the Turmoil That Lingers Within: Thoughts on G.Aravindhan’s Pokkuveyil
Image
Watching G. Aravindan’s “Pokkuveyil,” released in 1982, is like reading a Sylvia Plath poem, full of restrained sorrow, inner turbulence, and the kind of sadness that doesn’t leave but lingers. It’s very precise, poetic, and quietly devastating. It wouldn’t be a lie to say that the despair is haunting.

On the Deeply Personal Nature of Balu’s Distress

The movie revolves around Balu, a college-going student who is both a poet and an artist, seemingly disinterested, yet deeply caring in his relationships, whether with friends, parents, or his lover. He is portrayed beautifully and with striking realism by Balachandran Chullikkad, who is also a well-known poet in Kerala in real life.

The opening scene takes us to the stark, realistic setting of a mental hospital, where we see Balu’s mother and uncle visibly worried about him. He appears withdrawn, frightened, and sad. There is an unsettling...

Image
Since Broadway theatergoing has made a full-fledged comeback after shutting down during the Covid-19 pandemic, there's been plenty of big Hollywood names taking the stage. This past year's Tony Awards included nominees best known for film and television, like George Clooney for "Good Night, and Good Luck" and Sarah Snook for "The Picture of Dorian Gray." While many casual Broadway fans' introduction to famous shows might be through the best movie musicals of all time, they might not know about these 10 stars of film and television whose careers began as primarily theater performers. Even the likes of big movie stars like Pedro Pascal had plenty of experience performing Shakespearean across the country before becoming a franchise lead, though Pascal sadly is...

Watch Ozzy Osbourne Cheer Up Conan’s ‘Late Night’ Staffers After 9/11
Image
Ozzy Osbourne was many, many things. Black Sabbath frontman, eater of bats, controversial media figure. But it can’t be lost that amid all the black clothing and signature sunglasses was a sharp sense of humor. This is no better exemplified than in a Late Night with Conan O’Brien segment from all the way back on October 18, 2001.

Resurfaced on Reddit after the news of Osbourne’s passing at the age of 76, the original seven-minute clip is full of quick jokes. The premise: Conan brings Ozzy to the Late Night offices to boost morale in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. “A lot of things have been tense, a lot of people have been on edge, and people are probably experiencing this in their offices,” Conan says, to introduce the segment. “Take a look at how I cheered up my staff.”

Osbourne’s approach to comforting O’Brien’s New York City-based staff...

One Awful Subgenre Completely Dominates IMDb's Worst Movies List
Image
The list of the IMDb's 250 top-rated films is an interesting peek into the minds of IMDb users. The people who log onto IMDb to give ratings seem to be, collectively, very fond of movies about criminals, prisoners, or war. There is also a heavy violent-fantasy contingent. Almost all the films on the list are about men, masculinity, and male concerns. The ten highest-rated films on the top-250 list include titles like "The Shawshank Redemption," "The Godfather," "The Lord of the Rings," "Pulp Fiction," and "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly."

Of course, the 100 worst-rated films on IMDb is more of a mixed bag. Great films tend to be the movies that many audience members and critics agree are great. Bad films tend to be individually uncovered discoveries, oddball outliers that no one wants to talk about. Classics bring communities together. Bad films feel deeply personal.

Films can be bad for many,...

New Spy x Family Trailer Teases One of Season 3's Most Unexpected Arcs
Image
Spy x Family is officially back this October, and the new trailer for season 3 has fans buzzing with theories, excitement, and more than a little surprise. While the Forgers’ chaotic double lives remain front and center, the trailer also teases an unexpected focus by showing a younger version of Loid Forger himself. For the first time, the story appears ready to dive into Twilight’s shadowy past.

This marks a bold tonal shift from the comedic family antics viewers know and love. And with Yukiko Imai stepping in as the new director, replacing Kazuhiro Furuhashi and Takahiro Harada, season 3 might be the show’s most emotionally layered and stylistically daring yet, according to the trailing from @TOHOanimationEN on X. Fans have every reason to be off the rails about Spy x Family's new season and the Kid Loid arc might be one of its most interesting moves.

Stranger Things’ One Theory Could Turn Post Animal Into the Next Kate Bush Moment
Image
Stranger Things’ final season has fans terrified. It has been hyped that the series will not hold back in its fifth season, spilling blood as it sees fit. Considering this, there are specific characters that fans do not want to see die. While everyone has their individual preferences, fans are collectively worried that Steve Harrington will be one of the casualties of this season.

With this, bajji_kadhu_bujji_ on Instagram put up a reel regarding Steve’s potential death. They stated that they would quit Netflix if they heard the song “End of Beginning.” Since music is a very powerful tool in the series, playing a song by Post Animal member, Joe Keery, during his character’s death would be gut-wrenching in so many ways. This would be especially daunting since the show did something similar in the fourth season.

10 failed YA sci-fi/fantasy movies that would make great TV shows
Image
It's no secret that adaptations of YA novels can be hit and miss in Hollywood. For every success like Twilight, Harry Potter, or The Hunger Games, there are at least a half-dozen novels that are meant to start franchises only to flop after one outing.

Yet some of these failures get a second chance on television to be better. The Golden Compass was a 2006 box office disappointment but was redeemed by HBO's His Dark Materials show. Likewise, The Mortal Instruments failed as a movie but turned into the beloved Shadowhunters series.

Granted, it doesn't always work (Vampire Academy flopped in both mediums), yet TV offers a shot for these properties to do much better. A season of episodes provides more time for a story than a movie and can expand on things better. While there are several candidates, these are 10 notable failed YA movie series that would be much better as TV shows,...
