Pretty Awful Even As Teen Comedies Go

Looks like the director's friends put in some good words for him at IMDb just looking at the comments for this movie. I'm sorry, but this is one of the absolute worst teen comedies I have ever seen, and that's saying a lot. This movie makes the latter American Pie sequels seem like absolute masterpieces in comparison. That's how bad this movie was. Terrible acting. It didn't seem like there was ANY chemistry between the actors. These supposed high school students all looked like they were in their mid to late 20s. There wasn't really anything funny at all in the movie, and the pace was terribly slow and sluggish. Don't let the plant comments fool you, this movie is utter garbage. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Attractive cast, low budget teen comedy

This movie is not nearly as bad as some of the reviews would lead you to believe. Nor it is good as some of the "excellent" reviews. The acting is fine but the storyline is predictable. The movie is not hilarious but it does have its moments. The biggest problem with the movie is the age of the actors playing the teens. Everyone is obviously older than the role they are playing, which, and you would have to ask the writer, would have worked better if these "kids" were supposed to be in college. I think the storyline would have worked just as well with college age characters. The movie does have a very attractive cast and they do the best they can with the material they are given. This movie is not nearly as bad as some of the teen movies produced by the majors and if you watch it with an open mind I think you will see the future potential of many of the people involved in this film.

    Total crap

I look at the comments applauding this movie and I wonder if these people are talking about the same movie. Obviously they are planted comments. The Weekend would have to be the worst teen movie I've ever seen. Not only was the acting atrocious but the camera work, the characters, the story line and the editing were all equally pathetic. Heres a tip for future teen movie makers. Get decent actors, a decent script, a decent story and you may make half a decent film. I've never seen such rubbish as The Weekend in all my life. I hated this movie so much that I kicked myself for wasting my bandwidth with the download and after watching it I deleted it from my computer. There goes an hour and a half of my life that I will never get back. If there was a 0/10 I would give it that but I have to suffice with 1/10.

    Very poor

Predictable, boring and unfunny are words i would use to describe this flick. There is nothing unique about this movie that makes it stand out from any other in its (very saturated) genre. I had pretty much worked out the whole movie by the midway point as it was so predictable.

I wont even get started on the acting!! That was even worse! I have seen soap actors pull off a better job than this cast, talk about wooden? If your looking for a film that has nothing new to offer, poor acting, poor narrative, rubbish dialogue then look no further.

Did anyone else notice how old the cast were? These guys were supposed to be 16 or 17? Some with full beards etc. This only added to the pain of watching this film as it made the whole thing non believable.

This is what Superbad would have been had you taken out the humour, good dialogue, story, acting ability.

    One to miss.

A Valiant Effort But Falls Short Of Satisfying A Coming of Age Comedy

Have you ever rented a movie title that you had never heard about, and then after viewing the film, you were pleasantly surprised by how well it hit the target with you? Well if you have, keep looking on the video store shelves because I suggest you may just want to take a pass on The Weekend. This film was just another of the many campy movie genre films that tries to capture the camp success of previous films such as the American Pie trilogy, and to some extent, even films from the early 1970's such as The Summer of 42 and the Class of 44.

One of the first signs that I look for to assess whether a film may have some potential or not, is to see if the writer and the director are one and the same person, or if the writer and director are two separate people. Nine out of ten times when the writer and director are one and the same person the film tends to be a flop. The Weekend is such a film. Michael Todd Kuskin deserves some credit for his attempt at writing and directing this film since the actors he put on the screen were pretty good. I just did not enjoy the story line which consists of a bunch of teenage kids who are coming of age and trying to party like there will be no tomorrow and then circumstances present themselves to these hormone raged teenagers that one by one they fall victim to a prank and/or a nearby parent.

Yes, the story is a common one and sometimes such as with the American Pie trilogy the story works and appeals to a vast audience base. The Weekend though, is just a valiant attempt by writer/director Michael Todd Kuskin to try and copy some of the success of earlier films but unfortunately falls short, and I just didn't relate to any one of the characters, or their personal story as being very interesting.

The musical score is another example of how the film tries to maintain an upbeat and hip story, but even the music is not catchy enough to keep an audience remembering The Weekend and wanting for a sequel. Thus in the past 7 years we have yet to see a sequel or a second production by writer/director Michael Todd Kuskin.

I gave The Weekend a 4 out of 10 and I suggest that you will also be disappointed (as I was) if you choose to watch the film.
