Although MCU’s producer-driven template has proven to be a success in the past, in recent years, things have been pretty mixed, especially in terms of its writing and CGI. As for the latter, it mostly has to do with the unreasonable deadlines that the artists often have to deal with, and the barrage of reshoots certainly doesn’t alleviate their case.

Yesterday, Marvel uploaded footage of some chairs to publicise Avengers: Doomsday. It ran for over five hours. We have some rather grumpy thoughts on the matter.
“Dostoyevsky described hell as perhaps nothing more than a room with a chair in it,” the filmmaker Bruce Robinson wrote in his script for Withnail & I. “This room has several chairs.”
At around 3pm yesterday (26th March), Marvel began one of the weirdest pieces of film marketing this writer has seen in many years. To mark the beginning of Avengers: Doomsday’s production, the studio began to stream what was essentially an outsized teaser trailer.
You may have seen at least snippets of it by now: the scene opens on a dimly lit soundstage. In the foreground: a director’s chair with Chris Hemsworth’s name emblazoned on the back. The camera lingers on the chair for at least 12 agonising minutes before – get this...

Alright, folks, let’s address the radioactive spider in the room, where is Tom Holland in Avengers: Doomsday? You’d think that after swinging through half of New York, saving the multiverse with Doctor Strange, and getting dusted by Thanos and then undusted, he’d at least get a call for another round of superhero mayhem. But nope, no Spidey in sight.

Now, before you start flipping tables and yelling, “But he’s literally the heart of the MCU!”, let’s break down why this might actually be intentional. Because when Marvel plays the long game, they really play the long game. And this time, it seems like they’re spinning a whole new web, one that involves a certain Brooklyn kid with a knack for graffiti and some seriously cool sneakers.

I’m *screaming internally* for the Asgardian reunion! I don’t know how Marvel is going to make it happen, but recent reports suggest that Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are officially reuniting as Thor and Loki in Avengers: Doomsday. No questions asked—we will simply be waiting for the brotherly chaos that the MCU has served us throughout the Avengers franchise.

The last time we saw these two icons share the screen was in a time travel sequence in Avengers: Endgame, and let’s be real—we’re still recovering from the heartbreak of Loki’s demise in Infinity War. But thanks to whatever glorious multiverse mischief they pulled, Loki will return to get on Thor’s nerves like a true brother. And I’m super excited, but not emotionally prepared.

We might need to take classes from Marvel Studios on how to break the Internet with an announcement. Ever since it was announced that Avengers: Doomsday was going to be another Endgame-type get-together, we have been sitting in anticipation, dying to know which characters would return as part of the ensemble. And now that Marvel has finally announced its star cast, let’s just say that we aren’t disappointed. From Sebastian Stan’s Bucky and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki to Anthony Mackie as Captain America and Chris Hemsworth as Thor, our favorites are back in business, baby!

While fans are excited about the bunch of names that were announced for the film, they were also curious about some of the notable names that were absent from the roster. Interestingly, when Downey Jr. commented on the “deep bench of talent”, Marvel Studios responded with an interesting response regarding the absent stars.

Pull up a chair: The Avengers are assembling once again.
Marvel inundated social media on Wednesday with the cast announcement for its 2026 tentpole “Avengers: Doomsday.” Over more than five hours, the oversized superhero squad generated constant buzz (and memes) as viewers patiently watched a livestream that slowly revealed cast members’ names on the backs of director’s chairs.
It was the first official information on who will headline the first of a two-part finale to the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, and Marvel pulled out all the stops. It seems like just about everyone in Kevin Feige’s rolodex is on the call sheet. Stars from “Captain America,” “Black Panther,” “Thor” and “Ant-Man” are on the list, plus some upcoming franchise hopefuls from “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” and “Thunderbolts*.” But can “Doomsday” reach the $2.79 billion box-office heights of “Endgame”?

At 11 a.m. this morning, the Marvel Studios social media accounts started live-streaming a video they labeled as an all-caps Announcement. The video showed a soundstage where, one by one, chairs reserved for actors were revealed, with a new chair coming into view every 10 minutes or so. As it turns out, this was a very long and slow way of revealing the star-studded cast of Avengers: Doomsday, which is now heading into production and aiming for a May 1, 2026 theatrical release.
The first chair belonged to Chris Hemsworth, who has played Thor, the God of Thunder, in Thor, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder. The second chair was reserved for Vanessa Kirby, who plays Susan Storm (a.k.a. Invisible Woman) in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which will be reaching theatres on July 25th.

2023 was quite a tumultuous year for the MCU, both on and off-screen. While on one front, Ant-Man 3, which was marketed as Kang the Conqueror’s big introduction in the multiversal saga, heavily underperformed, the MCU also had to cancel the Kang storyline following Jonathan Majors’ conviction.

Captain America: Brave New World Box Office: Set To Hit $200 Million(Photo Credit –Instagram)
Captain America: Brave New World crossed a major milestone at the global box office, and it might be its last one. It is also on track to cross a major milestone at the box office in North America. Anthony Mackie’s film lacks the previous appeal of the Captain America movies, but the box office is overall going through a dull phase.
Previously, people would have placed their bets on Marvel, but after Avengers: Endgame, things have changed. Not all MCU movies are performing extremely well. The Marvels and Ant-Man 3 majorly underperformed, and now Mackie’s film is experiencing a lukewarm run. Luckily, since Snow White did not receive a warm welcome at the cinemas, Captain America 4 still has a chance. Keep scrolling for more.

Captain America: Brave New World passed $400 million at the worldwide box office this weekend, and it's likely somewhere around there it will end its run in theaters.
Had Marvel Studios not committed to some pretty extensive reshoots, there's a chance the movie would have broken even or at least turned a small profit. Unfortunately, the critical and commercial response has likely closed the door on another solo adventure for the McU's new Captain America happening anytime soon.
Time will tell, but all eyes are beginning to shift to Marvel Studios' next movie, Thunderbolts*. Another feature that picks up with characters who have either appeared in supporting roles or primarily on Disney+, it's hard to say whether it will appeal to moviegoers struggling with superhero - and general blockbuster - fatigue.
Today, Feature First has shared new intel on Thunderbolts*, claiming it "currently has an approximate runtime of 2 hours."

Having completed a month and a half in theaters worldwide, Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World passed what will likely be its final global box office milestone. The superhero film hasn’t exactly broken past expectations, which were already at an all-time low thanks to the uneven run that Marvel movies have been having in the last five years. Barring a handful of hits, the once-indomitable studio has delivered a series of critical and commercial disappointments. This would have been unthinkable in the pre-pandemic era, but has unfortunately become increasingly common during the franchise’s latest “phase.” And Brave New World, despite its latest achievement, was unable to avoid the curse.
With over $190 million domestically and another $208 million from overseas markets, the movie has now made more than $400 million worldwide. Brave New World’s $400 million haul also puts it just $3 million shy of fellow Marvel movie Eternals, which debuted...

The last time Jonathan Majors sat down for rounds of interviews at a press junket, it was late February 2023. He was the fastest-rising star in Hollywood, with his big-screen Marvel debut as Kang the Conqueror in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” released just ahead of Michael B. Jordan’s boxing blockbuster “Creed III.”
But a month after reaching that pinnacle, Majors was arrested following a fight with his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. Then, in a highly publicized criminal trial, Majors was convicted of two misdemeanor counts of harassment and assault. As a result, the actor’s career imploded. The Marvel actor Jonathan Majors’ shocking audiotape surfaces, where he admits strangling his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. The news has taken over the internet, as the heated conversation between the two suggests that Majors reportedly strangled her and slammed her into a car. The audiotape is from September 2022, when Majors was filming Loki and was living with Jabbari in London.

Jabbari filed a civil lawsuit last April, and the audiotape that has been resurrected serves as evidence of a long-standing fight that took place in 2022 between the then-couple. The lawsuit has now been settled, but the newly unearthed audio of the two fighting has returned to the news. This was not the first lawsuit the Loki star has had under his name. In late 2023, a different lawsuit, reportedly charging Majors of physical assault, was lodged.

Marvel's Captain America: Brave New World reaches another milestone as it leaves behind another three MCU solo movies at the domestic box office, but it still may not be enough for Sam Wilson's Phase 5 movie to be considered a success. Captain America: Brave New World opened Marvel Studios' 2025 live-action slate with a few key MCU events, including the announcement of adamantium and President Ross' public transformation into Red Hulk. Despite its spectacular premise, however, Captain America: Brave New World has struggled to make significant progress at the box office, though it slowly crosses new landmarks one month after its theatrical release.
As of March 17, 2025, Captain America: Brave New World has earned $185,396,912 domestically (via Box Office Mojo), officially surpassing Ant-Man's $180.2 million, Thor's $181 million, and Black Widow's $183.6 million. Internationally, Captain America: Brave New World's $203.2 million is still a long way from Thor's $268.2 million and Ant-Man's $339.1 million, however.

Good thing “Novocaine” can’t feel pain, because this one hurts. Paramount’s “Novocaine” hit No. 1 at the domestic box office this weekend despite grossing just $8.7 million. That’s the lowest total for a movie to top the box office this year in a given weekend, and it led a dismally weak weekend on the whole at the domestic box office, in which the Top 10 earned just a cumulative $45.2 million, the worst of 2025 thus far.
It will come as a surprise to no one that the box office has been bleak since the pandemic, but you don’t even have to go back that far to find a weekend that had a worse No. 1. For that we look to February 9-11 2024 when the No. 1 movie in America was Universal’s “Argylle” in its second weekend in theaters, earning just $6.2 million. The biggest new release that weekend was Focus Features’ “Lisa Frankenstein,...

Anthony and Joe Russo's feature adaptation of Simon Stålenhag's critically acclaimed illustrated book "The Electric State" debuted on Netflix last Friday to scathing reviews, which is basically what happens when the Russos make a movie sans Marvel Studios' created-by-committee safety net. Fortunately for them, their next project will restore that net.
We'll have to wait and see how the McU's next two chapters ("Thunderbolts*" and "The Fantastic Four: First Steps") are received, but it's possible the Russos are going to have their work cut out for them with 2026's "Avengers: Doomsday" as they try to recapture the must-see swagger of the company's historic 2008 to 2019 run. Yes, they've got Robert Downey Jr. back in the fold, but will moviegoers be able to cope with the whiplash of the former Tony Stark playing Victor von Doom? And will they be eager to line up for a roster of superheroes whose...

2025 has not been the strongest of starts for the box office either domestically, in North America, or overseas. The most noteworthy example is Captain America: Brave New World, an MCU movie that's currently limping its way to $400 million worldwide.
This weekend, it added $5.5 million in the U.S. ($185.4 million total) and $6 million internationally ($203.2 million total) for a global cume of $388.6 million.
At this rate, it will just about manage to cross $400 million worldwide by the end of its run. While it's good that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier follow-up has topped disasters like The Marvels ($207 million) and The Incredible Hulk ($264 million), it's still set to land in "disappointment" territory alongside Eternals ($402 million) and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ($476 million).
There are those quick to blame "superhero fatigue" but it's not just Marvel Studios struggling to convince moviegoers to buy a theater ticket.
This weekend, the Jack Quaid-led Novocaine made only $10.5 million worldwide.

If Hollywood is looking to 2025 to reset the movie theater business after a tough five year stretch, it’s not off to the strongest of starts. Original films like “Novocaine,” “Black Bag” and “Mickey 17” are failing to draw sizable crowds, while sequels in once-reliable franchises such as “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Paddington in Peru” are falling drastically short of their predecessors.
Attendance is expected to pick up in spring and into the summer, as “A Minecraft Movie,” “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning,” “Jurassic World Rebirth,” “Lilo & Stitch” and other blockbuster hopefuls land in theaters. Until then, however, box office revenues are looking dire.
Over the weekend, Paramount’s “Novocaine,” an action comedy starring Jack Quaid as an unlikely hero who can’t feel pain, crumbled in its international box office debut with $1.8 million from 19 markets, though that represents just 25% of its overseas footprint. The film opened to No.

Captain America: Brave New World North America Box Office: Beats Chris Hemsworth Starrer Thor (Photo Credit – Instagram/Prime Video)
Captain America: Brave New World has been pushed to the 4th spot on Friday, with two new releases hogging up the top two spots and Mickey 17 at #3. Anthony Mackie’s film is hit hard by new movies, which are already having a tough time at the box office in North America. Despite it all, Captain America 4 has a reason to celebrate since it has surpassed the US haul of Chris Hemsworth-led Thor. Keep scrolling for more.
Thor was the debut MCU feature of Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, and Tom Hiddleston, and they soon became fan favorites. It was received with positive reactions and turned out to be a box office success. It was directed by Kenneth Branagh and released in 2011 when Captain America: The First Avenger was also released.

Paul Rudd Says He Doesn’t Know About Ant-Man’s Return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ But Teases Possibility
Though smaller in scale compared to other MCU films, ‘Ant-Man’ franchise has had a big impact by introducing new technology, characters, and storylines that continue to affect the larger MCU, especially with the multiverse at play currently and quantum realm.
‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ the latest installment in the franchise also kickstarted MCU’s phase 5 and was supposed to introduce Kang the Conqueror, the main villain of the Multiversal Phase.
The movie flopped. It received mixed reviews at best and is considered a true box office bomb earning $476.1 million when it needed $600 million to break even.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania leading man Paul Rudd touched upon Ant-Man return chances. This comes as Avengers: Doomsday reportedly prepares to start production this month.
Rudd brought this subject up in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, conveying, "We will see, I don't know. I mean, that suit is… I feel like I should never be too far from the suit in case they call, but you never know. They know where I'm at." Tying into this, Rudd delved into the possibility of another Ant-Man standalone film in 2024, avowing at the time, "I have no idea. I don't know. Yeah, that's not for me to answer, you'd have to go to Kevin Feige and those guys, I guess."

Captain America: Brave New World has become one of the most successful action films in U.S. history with its latest box office earnings. The film has earned almost $180 million domestically.
As reported by The Numbers, Captain America 4 has broken through on the All-Time Domestic Box Office for Action Movies chart. At the time of writing, it sits at #99 on the list, just above 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie. It's likely that as Captain America 4 nears the end of its theatrical run, it could climb even higher on the list, with less than $300,000 separating it from #98's Ant-Man, another Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

Avengers: Doomsday Budget To Reportedly Become The Costliest (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Avengers: Doomsday is currently in pre-production and is reportedly set to become one of the most expensive MCU films in the multiverse saga. Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avenger movies. The latest report has revealed how much Marvel has spent on the film so far and how much it is speculated to cost. It will reportedly be double the cost of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quatumania, aka Ant-Man 3. Keep scrolling for the deets.
Doomsday will be the fifth film in the Avengers franchise, directed by the Russo brothers, Anthony Russo and Joe Russo. Apart from Rdj, none of the cast members have been confirmed yet. Production will reportedly begin in April this year in London. The third sequel to Ant-Man 3 was a box office failure, making only $476.07 million worldwide.

According to a new MCU report, Avengers: Doomsday's pre-production costs have already tripled those of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and they're expected to keep rising. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has been one of the biggest box office bombs in the McU's history, partly because it only gathered $476 million worldwide, but also in part because Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's budget reached a staggering $388 million. Naturally, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are expected to have the biggest budget in the McU's entire Multiverse Saga, but the actual numbers may still exceed expectations.
As reported by Forbes, Marvel's financial statements at Avengers: Doomsday's current stage of pre-production reflect three times the amount of money spent on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania at a similar point. So far, Marvel Studios has reportedly spent $8 million on Avengers: Doomsday, whereas the studio had only spent $2.5 million on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,...

It’s been almost two years since Jonathan Majors was fired as Marvel’s Kang the Conquerer, and now, the actor might be looking to make a superhero comeback. Yet, instead of pursuing the “big guys” like DC or his former employer Marvel, Majors said his next superhero turn could come outside those studio-affiliated heavyhitters.
Majors, who was poised to be the next lead villain of the Marvel franchise before being found guilty of one count of misdemeanor third-degree assault and one count of second-degree harassment of his ex-girlfriend in 2023, told The Hollywood Reporter that he is considering a role in another superhero film.

In December 2023, Jonathan Majors walked through a dense thicket of news cameras and climbed into the back of a black Chevy Suburban pulling away from the criminal courthouse in lower Manhattan. After a highly publicized trial, Majors had just learned that a jury convicted him of one count of misdemeanor third-degree assault and one count of second-degree harassment of his ex-girlfriend, British dancer Grace Jabbari. Inside the hushed car, a member of his legal team turned around from the front seat and delivered the next piece of news. “He goes, ‘I’m just gonna tell you now,’” Majors says. “That way you’re not surprised, and you can start processing it. They fired you. Marvel fired you.’”
Before his arrest that March, Majors was fresh off the Warner Bros. box office hit Creed III, the Marvel movie Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and an Emmy nomination for the HBO series Lovecraft Country.

Jack Quaid-led action comedy “Novocaine” will vie with last weekend’s champion “Mickey 17” for the top spot on box office charts.
Based on projections, “Novocaine” should lead the way with $10 million to $12 million from 3,300 North American theaters in its first weekend of release. The film, from Paramount Pictures, cost $18 million. In “Novocaine,” Quaid plays an introverted everyman with the inability to feel pain, which he uses to his advantage after his dream girl is taken hostage in a bank robbery.
Those ticket sales should be enough to topple “Mickey 17,” which is expected to decline by 55% to 60% from its $19 million debut, putting second-weekend revenues around $8 million to $9 million. So far, the dystopian sci-fi comedy from Bong Joon Ho and Robert Pattinson has generated $20.5 million domestically and $54 million globally. Those grosses aren’t bad for an original, offbeat film in this theatrical landscape — except that “Mickey 17” cost $118 million...

From world-changing snaps to jaw-dropping debuts, the Marvel Cinematic Universe delivers magical moments. The storylines aside, none of it would matter without the characters -- the heroes and rogues -- but woof, the worst MCU villains don't do the franchise any favors. In fact, they only add credence to accusations from the likes of Martin Scorsese that superhero movies aren't real cinema. Like a skunk in a perfume store, these antagonists stink up the joint and bring down the value of everything else around them.
Sure, not every swing results in a home run, but these villains are the worst of the worst. Think of Tim Blake Nelson's Samuel Sterns from "Captain America: Brave New World" -- he doesn't come across as the scary Leader from "The Incredible Hulk" comics, but more like Ivan Ooze's long-lasting cousin from "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie." Similarly, what a waste of...

Captain America: Brave New World has, so far, made $176.6 million in the U.S. and Canada, and $194.6 million in other countries, for a total of $371.2 million worldwide. The movie needed to earn $425 million to break even, considering its $180 million production cost and marketing expenses.
In its opening weekend, the film made $88.5 million, topping the box office. However, in its second weekend, it saw a big drop, earning only $28.2 million, which was a 68% decrease—one of the worst drops in MCU history behind Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania (69% drop) and The Marvels (78% drop).
The movie did well internationally, earning $92.4 million from 52 countries, with China, the UK, Mexico, Korea, and France being the top markets.
In its third weekend, the film made just $15 million in the U.S., dropping nearly 50% from the previous weekend. The most recent numbers are grim, the film earned just $8.3 million in its fourth weekend, marking a 44% drop compared to its third weekend.

Warner Bros.’ “Mickey 17” doesn’t look like it will blast off at the box office, earning an opening weekend of $19.1 million from 3,807 locations as it faces a long road to recouping its nine-digit production budget.
Greenlit in January 2022 under previous Warner film chairman Toby Emmerich, “Mickey 17” is acclaimed director Bong Joon-ho’s follow-up to his Best Picture Oscar winner “Parasite” and carries a reported production budget of $118 million.
Reception for the film has been generally positive with Rotten Tomatoes scores of 79% critics and 73% audience to go with a B on CinemaScore. But it remains to be seen whether that good-but-not-great word of mouth will be enough to give “Mickey 17” the legs to be theatrically profitable, especially with Paramount’s “Novocaine” being released next week with a relatively more accessible form of the gory action thrills that “Mickey 17” offers along with Bong’s brand of biting satire.

Captain America: Brave New World North America Box Office: 4th Friday Update(Photo Credit – YouTube)
Anthony Mackie will soon have one more thing to be grateful about – his Captain America: Brave New World will no longer be the lowest-grossing film in the franchise. The MCU movie is set to beat Chris Evans’ The First Avenger during this weekend or on Monday at the box office in North America. Keep scrolling for the deets.
Captain America 4 was mimicking the box office run of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania but has outgrossed its dailies. Since MCU movies have stale luck at the box office, this film is also in danger of becoming a box office failure. In addition to mixed reviews, the film has a high budget and needs around $400 million or more to make the minimum amount of profit. It has failed to create a strong impression among the people...

It was released in 2022 and featured an intriguing supporting cast, including Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Quintessa Swindell, Marwan Kenzari, and Pierce Brosnan, with Johnson in the titular character. The film also marked Henry Cavill’s return as Superman, but to no avail.

It began with 2008’s “Iron Man,” a film that introduced the world to Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark with the hint that he could be part of something greater. Over 30 films later, the story of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still being told, albeit with various tributaries and detours that introduce new characters and new worlds that may or may not cross paths one day. Each film in the MCU stands on its own to some degree, but like building blocks, they all connect as part of one interconnected universe. And in that way, watching the Marvel movies in order tells one grand story.
There are a couple of different ways to watch the Marvel movies in order, but below we run down how to watch the MCU in chronological and release date order. Indeed, some films like “Captain Marvel” and “Captain America: The First Avenger” are full-on prequels...
